Firstly i want to say hello to everyone as this is my first post on dakkadakka although i have been lurking here for some time. I decided to post becouse of new project i started recently - painting some dark eldars. For now its a unit of kabalite warriors but if everything will go ok i will be painting more units.

Oh, and sorry if i do some grammar mistake or make a strange sentence from time to time, english is not my first language.

So here are the first photos that i done in the past few days.

I started with painting two test models to decide on color scheme. First was done using liche purple, second witch hawk turquoise and chaos black mix.

As you can see on next pics i went with the dark turquoise color.

On this one i have done a quick conversion

And here are all the bases that was prepared for the unit. I've done them using cork and sand.

So thats all for now, next step in the painting will be highlighting the armor. Hope you liked it!

Very nice. Good luck with the rest.

Btw, what color do you have planned for the rifles? I saw some dark eldar rifles with 'different' color schemes. Like a glow effect in contrast to the rest of the model.

Turquoise is the better choice imho, the purple is a bit cheesey for DE, done to death.

I will go with traditional metal for this unit, however thanks for the idea, i could use it in future.

Here's another few pics. I've done most of highlighting, i'll add on more brightest layer and it will be good.

Brilliant stuff so far, your highlighting is so even and careful! i'm quite jealous of look of them! very clean job and choice of colour is going to be very distinctive! would be perfect for the Kabal of the Poisoned tongue?

I think they could go as Poisned tongues but the color is more closer to Kabal of the Wraithkind, the first one is more into blue.

Here are some more photos. Finished highlighting armor, and started doing gold parts and skin.

Nice, they're coming along well, the gold is a great choice for a spot colour and looks good with the armour, are you using only 2 stages of highlights on the plates? i'm trying to decpher your style, your choices appear to be glowing! i've gone with a much darker look to my own DE but looking at yours I feel I may have picked wrong :-)

Do you have a list in mind or are you painting this for fun and enjoyment?

Im using 3 layers of highlight. First just hawk turquoise, second is mixed with white - something around 50:50(i never measure it exactly). Final highlight is more with white than turquoise but i apply it not on all edge of the armor but only where i think the light should go . Its simple thing but miniature looks better when your final brightest highlight is used to emphasize the light instead of just doing the highlight allover the place. Hope that make sense
Btw. I looked on your DE and i think they are good, you just have more toned down style and i have more aggressive with bright highlights. Its just a matter of style.
I dont have any specific list in mind, just painting them for fun. Im more painter that a player.

Ok here is new update, over a past few days i worked on metallic elements and skin pelts?(not sure how they are called in eng.)

Thanks for all the replies!

Here's new batch of pics. Besides dark eldar i also started something new - space wolves! But first the kabalite warriors:

As you can see they are almost finished. I need to paint the banner, do some details and retouching here and there, plus clean the bases.

And here are the space wolves! Its a bunch of 10 tacticals, 5 terminators and a hero.

Tacticals were converted from various parts to make them look more dynamic, running and charging etc.

Three termies, next two are in the assembly line Ive tested armor highlighting on the one in the center first and i think its ok so im painting the rest in the same methode. Here are the cloaks tha they will be wearing:

And this is the guy that will be leading them.

Man! I can't wait to see those wolves with some more paint on them! what you have done so far is excellent, the blue is great and while it's light it doesn't come across as the really baby blue that GW favors, i really like where everything you're painting is heading!

You mean the blue on the cloaks? If you mean the armor, i must say that im using just standard gray on them. Only shadows are done with dark blue instead of black, and this can give them slightly blue tint, but i didn't thought it will be noticeable on photos.

Anyway here something more

As i mentioned above they all got dark blue shading and im currently in the stage of highlighting them. Ive highlighted three puppies as you can see on the first 2 pics. Im not completely sure about them(maybe i should tone them down a little?), so any input is welcomed.

Nope I meant the armour, it may be my eyes or monitor but it looks a very slight tinge so maybe it does show up! :-) but whatever colour you're using I like the way it looks, you are one of the cleanest painters i've had the pleasure of stumbling across!

progress is coming along too! that's a lot of wolf pack right there!

Nothing new on dark eldars but today from the nearest manufactorum arrived new and shiny rhinos for the wolves :

Unfortunately it seems that some techpriest screwed the dimensions and this was the result

Jokes aside. My epic armageddon rhinos that i purchased from ebay arrived sooner that i anticipated and I just had to paint two of them for testing. I decided to collect ultramarines army and this are the first minis for them. I wont paint any more of them now as i want to finish already started DE and SW projects. But expect some of the 6 mm ultramarines in the future

Finally i finished kabalite warriors unit! Not so much differences between last pics and these ones, mainly becouse i just needed to do some minor retouching and details. The most noticeable difference is the banner, i spend some time on it and i must say that im really satisfied with the result

Recently i also spend much time (too much even) on youtube watching various painters and their fantastic miniatures and i must say this encouraged me to try posting videos too. My camera isn't as good for making videos as for making photos but here it is, firts test video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk6K2aAKU00

Thanks for all the comments! I have done some progress with the space wolves recently so here's something new.

Im not sure about the red-yellow shoulder pads(not enough crisp?) so any advice is welcomed.

Been some time without update so here is whats going on lately - first, im still fighting with the space wolves.

Whats been done? Mostly the shoulder pads with wolves symbols(took some time), various gold elements and of course backpacks, although these are still not finished.

As i usually like to paint more than one thing at once, im doing also more dark eldars. Here are some incubis that i started

The guy in the middle was a test model for armor highlighting, rest of the bunch will look similar when their armor is highlighted too. Im must say it was my first time when i had occasion to deal with citadel fincast and man, it rally suck ass Im not sure if im having bad luck and these minis are from old and used mold or all GW resin is that bad. Detail is definitely worse than in metal minis.

Hey, very nice work! Your DE are very impressive. I think the choice of purple for your spot color is *ahem* spot on.

Wolves...I like the grey. I can't stand the baby blue of the studio wolves. How did you make the arm-mounted bolters? I think the shoulder pads look fine, btw. I'm just not really a fan of the red and yellow pattern from the book.

Incubi...well, finecast has worked out well for some things, but the Incubi box appears to be one of the ones with the biggest issues. Lots of bubbles/warped pieces, etc. I do like the switch to resin personally, but that's just because I hate assembling things, and resin is so much easier than metal for swapping/converting/assembling.
