spyguyyoda wrote:Hey, very nice work! Your DE are very impressive. I think the choice of purple for your spot color is *ahem* spot on.

Wolves...I like the grey. I can't stand the baby blue of the studio wolves. How did you make the arm-mounted bolters? I think the shoulder pads look fine, btw. I'm just not really a fan of the red and yellow pattern from the book.

Incubi...well, finecast has worked out well for some things, but the Incubi box appears to be one of the ones with the biggest issues. Lots of bubbles/warped pieces, etc. I do like the switch to resin personally, but that's just because I hate assembling things, and resin is so much easier than metal for swapping/converting/assembling.

The bolter arms are from the sanguinary guards, some of the legs are too. As to the finecast, you are right the resin they use are quite good if you want to do some conversions. Flexible, easy to cut and easy to bent after heating it under the lamp. I actually hate assembling too and thats why i was so angry with cleaning those incubi, they took about 1,5 hour on every mini to prepare. So it was longer that the metal would take at least for me. Even after all that preparation some details are lost as they just didnt casted. I hope it's as you say that incubi are just poor example of finecast because generally i think that going into resin was a good choice. Im hoping that GW will become better at casting some day, then i will have no problem with it.

Thanks for the info.

Having purchased Finecast at various points since it came out, I can definitively say that, in my experience, the quality has come a very long way since it first came out. Now, there are still some bad eggs (I had to go through 5 dwarf command boxes before I found a captain that I could even FIX), but it is still much better than before.

Great looking stuff.

Is the Kabalite warrior's armor base color Hawk turquoise mixed with black like you mentioned, or did you find something else? Really like that color, I would like to try it out myself too.

And the space wolves are coming along nicely too.

Yes, the Kabalites armor is as i wrote, hawk turquoise and black mix for the base color. Highlights were done in three stages, normal hawk t., then with the mix of white of course and last layer with white just tainted with turquoise.

That looks great. I literally opened the page and went 'woah'. The contrast is incredibly effective.

Looks almost Tronny too

Love the DE! Great techniques, colours, etc. Makes me wish I had a bit more Patience with my own. Great Space wolves as well. I'll keep watching this thread.

Actually this gave me and idea . Whole Tron chapter space marines could look really cool! I think you just added one more thing to my "want to paint" list, hehe. But really couldn't stop thinking about this for the past week, maybe i should paint some test models soon.

But back to the space wolves. I painted some termies and a hero, here are the results.

Its an old painting trick . If i want more toned down, subtle effect i don't use white to highlight the base color but instead bleached bone. Simple, but it gives good effect. Second thing is to use other color than black while shading. In this case i used enchanted blue(highlighted b.bone) and shaded it with liche purple. Second color used for shading works better than black as purple accentuate the base color. Hope that helps!
