If you were to ask for my opinion I would say the Imperial fists. I feel like they are always in the shadow of the Ultramarines because of their adherence to the Codex but they are an incredibly interesting and unique chapter. Theres plenty of room for cool conversions that would work with thr fluff. I think its a great chapter to go with.

None of thee above. Make your own. But, if you must make one of the three, anything but the ultramarines. I am so sick of seeing smurfs.

Agreed, none of the above.

Blood Angels- They have great assault elements. You can go a couple different directions either DOA or mech or a mix. They got awesome fluff, and the Death company and sanguinary guard have awesome kits.

Just my two cents. (my main is, you guessed it, is Blood Angels.)

PS- Their initials, BA could also stand for bad ass. SO that's a plus.

If I had to pick out of the three, Raven Guard, read the SM Battle Novel Hunt for Voldorius, its mainly about the White Scars, but half the book includes Raven Guard, they are pretty bad ass.

Otherwise I would make up my own chapter, you can do whatever you want then.

I'd say depends on what colour and background you like. If I had to choose I'd say Raven Guard cause you don't really see them too much and fleeting terminators sound fun.

Imperial Fists, Or Raven Guard if you want to buy alot of corvous armor.
Yes only mk6 (?) armor or beakie because it fits only with them.

Just make your own, that way they can be anything you want any day of the week. Hmmm, what codex do I feel like using today.

actually you can go wrong with the ultras, I once walked in on a game where it was smurf vs smurf and there were 2 caligars. I have never understood why people don't just make their own chapters, in my original game group nobody used a premade chapter......it's not that hard.

Ultras are a rather common army - _if_ that bothers you, don't choose them.

Now that GW has given us a decent yellow Foundation colour, i'd go for Fists myself.

Hehehe, yes...that would be pretty lame, I've never actually had to play against Ultramarines with my Ultramarines. I don't think I'd bother...

It could, but chances are that if you are running a custom chapter while you may use caligar, you would probably not use the model or at least customize it somehow. They would at least be different colors. Just pick a name and make a logo, if you don't want to free hand the chapter symbol you can always make decals with a good printer.

1-2: Ultramarines
3-4: Raven Guard
5-6: Imperial Fists

Roll a d6, consult chart. Keeps you from having to think about sensible considerations like desired play style, painting skill level, etc, and avoids inviting more of the inevitable flood of UM hate and "unique" chapter posturing.

Personally, im not gonna vote. Its your choice, and your models, not ours.

If you want to decide just read up on all the fluff and rules and see which one you like the most.

I'm gonna lend my vote to the Imperial Fists. Pretty cool chapter, Masters of siege defence, Awesome paint scheme (if your up to the challenge of painting a yellow army that is). And there are some nifty conversion kits for Imperial/Crimson Fists

The most important thing of picking your chapter( and army) is the fluff. Read up and research a chaapter you really like! Dont worry about codex strength and such..... modeling is a big part of this game. You want to be painting modeling an army that sparks your interest! Their are many hyper competitive players out there, witch is fine, but i like to have an army with flavor and a rich back story.....

Raven guard have the coolest FW kits (I'm biased as I am painting Ravengurd atm).

Ultramarine armies are two a penny please don't add another load of blue marines.

Imperial fists have some really cool minis for their army.

Blood angels have by far the best minis of any SM chapter at the moment.

Do not forget you can do any of these options in any colour scheme you like. They are your minis and only fluff fascists really care what colour scheme you do. Even at GW tournaments they don't mind custom chapters.

Lots of people ignoring the question you asked

I went for Imperial Fists though tough choice as I personally like the look and fluff of all 3 of those chapters all First Founding which I'm inexplicably drawn too

Imperial Guard- Cadian 404th- 2500pts
Orks- Krugz Krushaz- 2000pts
Space Marines- Storm Enforcers- 300pts (starting over)
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment

Theres enough ultramarines in the world already!

Id say raven guard, just because you dont see them that often.

Going off of those three, I had to go with the Raven Guard. You don't see too many of them and their FW captain is pretty cool looking.

I have had both an Ultramarines and Raven Guard army. Of course they were at different times in my hobby but nonetheless. The Raven Guard are so untouched and have so little canon that you can personalize them to your taste.

Tabletop quality Orks for Sale. Plenty of converted vehicles. Moving and don't want. PM for details.

I would have to go with make your own chapter.

You get to decide on the icons colors and background. The only downside is that you are not instantly recognizable.

Ravenguard for fun and profit. Fleeting Infiltrating Terminators is just pure awesome.

The Crimson Fists are the best chapter out there, with Salamanders in second(I'm biased )! So I recommend choosing one of those or making up one. It would also be cool if you chose a "minor" chapter, EG: Carcharodons, Red Scorpions, Taurans, Raptors, Storm Lords, etc. None of those three are really that cool, but I have to say Raven Guard would be pretty original, and Imperial Fists are kinda cool, but no, just no to the Ultramarines.

You really have to try pretty hard to make an Ultramarines army not end up being "dime a dozen". There's nothing wrong with the Ultramarines, but since they've been the flagship chapter for at least fifteen, almost twenty years, you see a lot of them. Yellow can be hard to paint right so Imperial Fists may be no bargain.

So I'd say of those three, you should go with Raven Guard if it is your first army. You can play "counts as" with pretty much any of the Space Marine codexes.

But I'll also echo the sentiment that you should either go with your own chapter, or maybe search out a less often used of the published chapters.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?
