I've been working into the early hours of the morning since I got carried away with what was originally meant to be a grot piloted tau drone (that hit a snag in that I grossly over estimated the depth of a drone). This later developed into a scouring of my bitz box, a lounge full of random sprues and alot of GS in various stages of drying.

Anyway to cut that rather odd story short I have finished up with what has been named "Ard Grot" for now, a particularly cunning grot in favour with Da Boyz who looted the lower half of a Terminator suit from its prior owner.

Its a mechanically operated armoured lower body for a grot pilot (who also liberated a guardsmans cap, carrying ammo for Da Boyz Meks and gunning from his Big Shoota when he is less worried about what direction he's working in.

Before I carry this theme over into a squad I'd love some C&C

Cheers as always guys.

I'd have given him TWO joysticks for control (like a scissor action for the legs) - as it is, it looks like he's fapping.

I like the idea of a looted half-terminator and kudos for making due with what you had on hand, but the execution of the build just isn't doing it for me. Aside from cleaning off the mold lines and smoothing out the GS, I'd try and find some sort of substitute for the arms. The proportions of the stock bits are horrendous (not your doing, obviously, but it doesn't help the piece) and it seems like their pose has dictated the rest of your build. Since you're capable of resculpting details, as evidenced by the GSed hand, I'd suggest mucking around with the controls and deciding what pose you want, then finding/converting arms to fit.

Funnily enough my wife said exactly the same thing, and as you can see he's built up some muscles from the constant action

Yeah, fixed to best of my abilities now. Not my strongest suit and the rocket pack is just full of em but I've removed the ones from HB, Rocket Pack and side of Termi legs now, not sure if I missed any.

And that was brutally honest, I appreciate where you're coming from on the arms and I had considered obscuring their side with armoured panels or enclosing the pilot in a giant bulb to hideh im a little but the haphazrd appearance really made me smile. I've justified the arms to myself in that the only muscles he's using are to operate the joystick (hehe) and pulling/controlling the HB, resulting in big arms and lil everything else. I will be varying the controls on other suits if I make them (Joystick, series of pulleys, steering wheel, mind controlled etc)

Oh, and incase I opt not to scrap the project (not sure if I can redeem the reviews) any idea on a source for thin grotlike arms in control poses, hands and gear not an issue)

I disagree, I think he looks pretty good! Although he needs to look my orky. get some plasticard, and randomly stick bits on at armour plates, maybe build him a little canopy.

I am now tempted to go out and make a mini dread knight for a grot.

I think he's hilarious but a whole squad would detract from the shambles that is grot technology. I would love to see you apply your fevered/fatigued imagination to other weird and wonderful grot transports.

Fair point, a half dozen identical ramshackle termi's would make it seem less random, which leave the question of where to put him:

Shoota Boyz Squad (Counts as Big Shoota)
Lootas Squad (Counts as Loota, makes sense due to mek being present)
Ard Boyz Squad (Counts as Big Shoota)

I'm determined to Grot up a Storm Boy equivalent just as soon as I find something to fit him into, the tau drone lacks the depth needed but was aiming for something there (Grot mini UFO kinda deal)

Hrmm, might work. Or the hellion board seem to have enough depth to carve out a little pilots cabin

Heh, I'm middway through Necrons and a custom SM chapter but returned to orks when I decided to learn how to GS a little better. Need to grab some plasticard and learn on that a little bit.

Adding more plasticard armour plates to this guy/others owuld make me use alot less GS.

You know, I've seen a lot of wonderful grot conversions in my time on dakka... but that one is unique.

There is something odd about the grot. He seems very thickly muscled for a gretchin and his head looks strange. But then again it's a grot, they're rather random biologically.

The heavy bolter on the front and the rockets on the back seem a little incongruous. That being said... it's a really fun concept and very unique. Keep up the good work!

The head looks dodgy because the entire grot is based off of a Gnarloc model, I liked the variety of poses/gear alot more than the somewhat limited selection of Grotz available in 40k

Yeah the arm muscles have been a stickling point for many including myself. They're a filed down version of catachans so the scale is way off.

The rockets/HB combo was just to get a little random in there, and if he's in with Lootaz it makes more sense if his squad are nicking some ammo off his back.

Cheers, Painting is slow going atm, with such a small body its hard to put down any real kind of detail (see my other grots for reference).

Figure I'll paint up the orkified parts, and the marine bits seperately, and graffiti the marine parts in a final stage.

Quick update on the existing project before I move onto my next conversion (more on that friday when I can do a bitz order)

The Ard Grot is painted, though I severely struggled with a battle damaged painting technique and the marine part is far below what I would normally be happy with (this is why I stopped painting marines). Still on the whole I am happy with it.

This is the Ard Grot with my other Evil Sunz

I love the juxtaposition of big muscly arms and tiny little grot hands. The weathering on the armor looks great too.

That is exactly the kind of thing I was after, do you gave any idea how many parts it comes in (Ideally I dont want to have to saw out the ethereal to fit in a grot) or how to kitbash an equivalent?

Excellently painted! My only gripe is that the backpack doesn't look too secure.

Otherwise - well, I love anything to do with Grots, especially when painted that well!

I know exactly what you mean, I only found the points that were originally meant to form a strap after I had started painting him. Shame but I'm happy enough. Thanks for the comment
