Thanks..It will eventually be more subtle, after the effect is dampened a bit with more washes. These need to dry first though.

I would say place it on the side that's nearest where you consider the front (e.g. nearest the main road).

My first thought was the right (long) side, but then I though the the shorter (left) side would more likely be the front to fit on the street...

Is it heresy to say that something about the sign looks "off" when next to the building?

Perhaps it's my color blindness but... I dunno.

And with that you can probably write my blabbering off as "wtf is that color blind bastard talking about."

wow.... the window panes are amazing... and the wooden frames too...they look like really centuries old...

and i chime in with the doc...the sign should be placed acordingly to the place where you intend to er...place the building on your planned table... but in my view it then should be more into the background than into the foreground...

There are, however, two issues with that statement;

color blind

and

Your building is actually more colourful than the in-game building, being red brick...

Maybe the addition of a small Cornucopia poster/sign on the wall at ground level will tie them together more?

I think it looks fine.

Also, on a side note; that screenshot, was it taken shortly after meeting some Talon company, or could you not help yourself in attacking a defenceless motorbike?

Remember, the bases are modular, so they can be arranged differently from game to game...not really YET though, since this is only the 3rd building I've made.

Color blind doesn't mean I can't see color...
For me specifically I have difficulty with colors next to each other that are a similar shade (reds mostly look the same next to each other, etc)

Regardless, if I'm the only one that sees something funny, it's just me.

Well, signs are generally made to attract attention

I had to take a color blindness test for pre employment at the hospital. I guess that way I can tell difference between blood on the floor and mold

Dave that looks pretty damn nice. Is that the cornucopia building? Or just another one in the process? Also how did you get those window effects as they look pretty damn awesome.

I was trying to see what was off for you, but my argument was shot down by Dave's building being a different colour than that in-game...

The sign does stand out, both in-game and on your building, Dave. So, does the job.

Oh I guess I missed that there was another page. I am not paying nearly enough attention even though I am trying to lose myself in dakka because I am hella uncomfortable where I am right now.

Dave, the images of the work done are making my head play oldies like "I don't want to set the world on fire" and "Butcher pete"

Dave have you thought about putting some sales posters in the windows i.e. Meat on sale for $X/ lb or 2 for 1 deals? I know its not represented in the game screen shots but if you're going for realism it's something to consider? Or how about a coin operated animal ride out front?

Thanks guys! I've thought about some posters, but I haven't decided what exactly yet. I also want to build the white produce rack that sits outside of the store.

I'm also thinking that I want to build a Metro Station entrance. I've never been to DC, but from video I've seen in TV and movies, the shelter structures actually look like they do in game.

I think that you shouldn't limit yourself to the game's palette of colors and textures. Video games have severely limited assets in that area. You definitely should look at 50's Americana for inspiration (which, I'm betting you have; just thinking out loud here). I intend to do just that when I get around to my own Fallout project.

Thanks Taarnak! I intend to get some good screenshots of New Vegas signage for you! I totally agree! In the older parts of town around here, there are plenty of 50's style stuff still around. As a matter of fact, just the other day I noticed a 50's style laundry sign that would fit right into this look.


Fallout 3 especially has a greenish, irradiated tint to everything in the environment, also anything metallic is rendered in a more NMM look. That may be why Rigel said it looked a bit off. I painted the sign supports with Metallics, but the game only uses greys, greens, and lighting aspects for metallic colors. If you look at BoS Power Armor, it's always rendered as textured grey rather than metallic.

Hey dave since I don't play the game I'm not sure, but could you use your billboard an put it on a similar corner base to this to help flesh out your board? Maybe have it in a used car lot, or just parking spaces for open area gaming?

The Corvega Billboard is already on a corner base. With matching 2" pavements
