It's the attack caracteristic which is doubled , So 2x2 + 1 (2 CC weapons) +1 assault = only 6 attacks :^p

After listening to the scene in "Skitarius" that takes place in the Fabricator-General's throne room, I have lost all preconceived notions of what tech-priests can look like. That book is inspiring to say the least!

So I'm thinking a unit of 6x Kastelan Robots with Heavy Phospher Blasters replacing the Power Fists and carapace mounts.

Fire up the Protector protocols, and you are putting out an obscene amount of shots a turn.

I like my Castellax for looks of the model, it is way more costly then then the Castellax which has BS4 +1W for 85 points a model. Weapons wise we are way better equipped Mauler Bolter, Darkfire Bolter, Multi-melta. but we dont have data smiths to fallow the robots, we only have our HQ units.

Now here is the thing in the rules from the BRB no unit can join Monstrous creature i think even like a squad like this because it is preset so no Death-stars on this unit, only Invs will be a pain

Technically it's not out yet, as no official channel has shown off the minis.

But to answer your question, no, I didn't know about any of this stuff. I wish I had (not that I could've told any one!), but sadly I did not.

Ok, thanks. I figured I'd ask given your requests form them for so many years. I thought/hoped you'd have been chomping at the bit for months to squeal in glee.

Sure whenever they get around to punching something. It'll take them awhile to get there.

I'm thinking the shooty version might be better

I wonder the reason we have this stuff so early is because of the bank holiday here.

That was my initial idea, too: Shooty robots as an alternative to Phosphor Onagers but, heck, their melee power is impressive as well. I know that getting the most of their assault protocols is going to be tricky at best, but I feel my army needs a powerful melee unit and, since I'm still not sold on Infiltrators and Ruststakers, I think the robots might fit the bill.

What reminds me that we still know nothing of the Kataphrons. According to rumor there's an assault variant coming as well, and guesstimating from appearances I think we can expect good mobility paired with terminator-like mobility from them. Maybe those are the choppy mechanicus unit I'm hoping for.

Even as shooty robots, their melee power is still impressive with S6 and 2A(4A with the Conqueror Protocols).

Especially if you go with 6 of them!

Well, and as MCs their attacks are all AP2, so they're excellent at anti-elite/anti-Terminator, etc, as-is, while being far more effective at shooting.

It seems to me that Shooty is far and away their best build, especially if you're running them with Skitarii who have Haywire for days anyway. Hell, even their Datasmith has a free Haywire attack. Anti-tank/vehicle won't be a problem for these guys, so might as well build in as much anti-Eldar cheese as possible.

Ok, sold on these guys, great MEQ killers

Much better option for the Phosphor than the Onager

Will keep my onagers as icarus or neutron platforms

Icarus + Neutron Onagers are still quite good. I've been having good luck using a unit of three, one Icarus, two Neutron in my TAC lists. There will definitely be a place for them.

I think these new robots are best thought of a Dakkafexes, pre-Tyrannocyte for Tyranids. They'll slowly plod up table, and along the way their shooting will do a credible amount of work, and then once/if they do make it to Assault, they will continue to have intrinsic value, or do an amazing job tying things up.

I will admit, I am still thrown by the lack of transport across both Ad-Mech mini books. I'm loving everything I see, but all that Haywire, all those slow-powerfist platforms, etc... are just begging for Pods or something all their own.

I don't know guys, 290 points seems like a lot to me. Then again I'm used to play Guard, where everything is pretty cheap. It will depend on what this whole "Canticles of the Omnissiah" thing ends up being. If its similar to Doctrina Imperatives then they'll be worth it.

Otherwise I'm kinda like "or I could take some leman russes instead?"

Again, its a matter of perspective. Compare their price to a Carnifex, which is a solid, work-horse of Tyranids given the right support, and these guys come out favorably.

Weighing in on the new options:

Magos - Looking like a good sculpt. I'd like to see a Myrmidon Lord HQ option for a real CC/Shooting beast but we'll have to see what comes of the wargear.
I'd really like the flexibility of the 30k Mechanicum HQ choices and an Abeyant, but I feel we're likely to get something meh.

Electro-Priests - Look awesome if a little impractical without an assault transport.

Kataphron - Looking as good as tracked combat servitors can get, I suppose. Not sold on their Plasma weaponry however, would have loved Grav, or even Volkite (which would never happen).

Robots - These and the Dunecrawler are the dud releases for me, aesthetically. Cybernetica chaperone is freaking cool though. Rules-wise, they're pretty much better than Castellax in every way,
although the existence of Web-way portal Wraithguard make them somewhat uncompetitive on the tabletop. At 120 points a pop as well they're really overpriced.

I wish Forgeworld would release rules for Mechanicum in 40k.

These new robots are an excellent value compared to the Tyranid Monstrous Creatures. Compared to a Carnifex, they have better toughness, Str 10, better shooting (for cheaper), a 5+ Invlun, and access to Feel No Pain.

So this is the first release for Cult Mechanicus?? It's an interesting choice certainly.

Gives you robots and a cool Character guy though as others have said I'm not sold on the power fist.

But it's fine if I can have a different options. If not that's the only restrictive thing so far on "leaders"

I kind of like that the robots are unexpected. I don't like "bigger moat cooler" trends in models, but I do like new ideas. They look like a homage to early mechanicus work bots perhaps.
