Idea I had for a power scythe. Only useable in GK, RG, BA and other marine chapters that would make sense.

A power scythe is a power weapon that doubles strength as per the Power fist but has the following extras.
Gives 2d6 to armor pen to vehicles and any model that suffers an unsaved wound from the power scythe must roll a toughness check. Roll the models toughness or lower or the model is
removed from the game. If the model has eternal warrior they take an aditional wound if failed. HOWEVER! The model takes a -1 to WS due to the scythes Unwieldly nature as they were never meant for
initially designed for battle.

So why do these rules make any sense, again? Any reasoning?

The problem I'm seeing is that -1 WS isn't a particularly detrimental 'drawback', here - most of the time you're going to be hitting on 4's anyway. So we have a weapon that ignores armor saves, doubles Strength, and additionally adds 2d6 to vehicle pen, meaning you can glance anything on the game at least half the time, AND has a shot at Instant Death (which I'm honestly not too fussed about, since you're doubling Strength anyway you'll be ID-ing quite a lot of stuff).

What kind of points cost were you looking at for this? Without the double Strength and ID effect, we've essentially got a Necron Warscythe, which is 10 points. Warscythes normally add +2 to Strength (typically resulting in Strength 7) so normally the cost wouldn't go up too much, but since you're now in the realm of ID for most stuff I'd probably double it to 20 or 25 points. Add in the ID effect....say 30 points total? Oh, and it would need to be a two-handed weapon as well (so no Power Scythe/Storm Shield combos....).

The weapon cost to take I do not think should less than 30 or so.

The -ws is because its a "scythe". If you know anything about melee weapons you would know a scythe while can be built for war and battle is a farming tool. BUT a symbol of death and powerful none-the-less.

Its a drawback for having the ability to act as not only a chain fist but ignoring armor saves AND getting around the Eternal warrior rule which would make it a useless weapon in CC.

Compare to any other weapon in the codex and its far superior.

Well lets see here..

Its a necron warscythe but better because Eternal warrior cannot save you.

Its armor pen of a chain fist and doubles strength.
Also While I said It doubles strength LIKE a power fist.
It would not make for an initiative 1 to boot!

The -ws is just because of the type of weapon itself. I am not set on it being like that but its there because it makes sense for the kind of wep it is and how it acts in real life as such. Even with a master weapon skill its still an unweildly weapon to hold but is still capable of causing a great amount of damage if used correclty.

Its power weapon technology is enhanced by its two handed use and its "cresent slicing" motions would add to the effectiveness so it was built accordingly to be better at that instead of the slice and crush that other weapons like swords have.

Sorry to be so blunt, but this is utterly ridiculous.

It has no fluff.
It is overpowered.
It makes no sense.
It reeks of 'scythes are so cool! So they should be super amazing!' even though scythes as weapons are terrible.

You're missing the point he's trying to make.

Why are you making something that's just a stupidly more powerful version of things? That's really the worst reason to make up a new rule.

Also, power scythes are actually a weapon that goes on Chaos Dreadnoughts (and only them) traditionally.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

Huh. I didn't know mary sues came as weapons.
Yeah mate, this weapon is stupidly powerful, and there is no justification for it.

Awww That's disappointing. I was expecting a proper scythe, not some skeleton claw thingy.

Now that you say the name, I believe that you are correct.

Also, who the hell would buy the meal CSM dread at £36 when all the loyalist plastic dreads are £28, and much better looking with better weapon options?

Not that I would pay £28 for a dread anyway, but hey

For a powerscythe, isn't a relic blade a better fit? Practically two handed, gives a bonus to strength, but still strikes at initiative order.

Nothing about a scythe seems to indicate the ability to penetrate vehicles.

Now, Typhus has a scythe, and its 'special' rule over a regular nurgle daemon weapon is that it's a force weapon. This to me is a better indicator of a special 'death' or 'killing' property, with the ability to snuff out the life of something that it wounds.

Power Scythe?
2 handed, no armor save, instant death.
Done.

No strength bonus, no bonus armor pen.
It's really good at lopping heads off, as that's what scythes do.

I'd call it ~20 points. Better than a power weapon, worse than a power fist.

Have you ever held a scythe? Nope....The reality is that a scythe wielded by anyone but SM would be knee level, they are terrible weapons and need impetus to get up to striking power. If anything I would give it Always strikes last, -1 str but rending.

The rules for Typhus's Scythe are actually because he is a pysker as well.

I got one of the old metal ones and pimped it with a few extra bits: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/48724-Dread%201%20front.html?m=2 and the rear: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/48725-Dread%201%20rear.html?m=2

My other 5 dreads are SM dreads that I got for £6 each on ebay that someone had covered with sculpting putty to make evil possessed dreads. A few minutes with some paint stripper and a knife soon sorted that out though
