When 6th Edition eventually come around and we get a new starter set, what would be your choice of armies?

I'm not asking which armies do you think will be in the box but which ones you would like.

I think that Imperial Guard vs Tyranids would have a very cool Starship Troopers vibe to it but I think a Space Marine vs Chaos Space Marine (which happens to be the current rumor) would be the best as you could easily make them all Chaos and start up a warband.

The Imperial Guard dies, it does not surrender.

I was ready to jump for joy when I heard Black Templars vs Chaos Daemons-that would actually be my #1 choice. So my top pick was already rumored, and thrown out. I think the Starship Troopers/IG vs Nids idea would have been great-back when the movie came out. Especially since I hear GW used to work with a Starship Troopers game-would have been perfect. Now, I think it would try to bring something that's gone back to life. Let it lie...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I thought that Andy Chambers had left GW for Starship Troopers.

To OP, Eldar vs Daemons

I think Eldar deserve the "Marine/Ork, Skaven/HighElf" treatment. Maybe quick-snap Banshees, Warp Spiders and Scorpions, with quick-snap Vypers.

The Daemons could have plastic Plague Bearers, Flamers, re-cast of the Horrors and Daemonettes with an alternative Daemon Prince.

Preferably the daemons that haven't yet had the plastic lovin'

Nurgle, especially, needs a redo. Everything is metal, and most of it is fugly.

C'mon plastic plaguebearers...

I'd rather not have it not be VS GK though, as that would be a fight that was over the moment the words warp and quake crossed the non-deamon player's eyes.

Daemons vs Eldar or Tau could be fun.

Daemons vs Dark Eldar would really rock my socks, as i have all the orks i need for now, and my BT are on hold pending cashflow.

I keep hearing Dark Angels vs Chaos Space Marines. Not the most creative plan but that means Chaos would need to have an up to date codex and I can get behind that.

Marines vs Marines = Yawn for non-marine players, but it would likely sell well, especially if you had the models be older marks of power armour, and played up the Horus Heresy angle.

I've heard that Eldar Vs. Chaos is looking possible. They are both relatively close to a new release and they fulfil both roles required (the 3+ save fellas and the 4/5+ save fellas). No doubt Chaos will be outnumbered in that case.

Plus i want this to be the case. My pal plays Eldar and im hoping to go to Chaos, so we'd split the cost and have half each

We still haven't seen eldar or chaos in a starter box, and obviously, the other army would have to be space marines, so either of those would be nice.

Personally. I like the idea of Imperial Fists and Iron Warriors.

Although dark angels are cool too, if there's a bunch of terminators in the kit.

I thought that Andy Chambers had left GW for Starship Troopers.

Andy Chambers has done a lot since he "left" GW. He left Mongoose Games(SST) pretty quickly and then started working at Blizzard on Starcraft II and Wrath of the Lich King. He recently left them and is seemingly back to doing freelance stuff.

On topic though, I've said many times that I don't want to see one "starter set". Having one set ends up, without fail, being not really a "starter set" to players but rather a "booster pack" for their armies due to the unhappiness with prices.

If it were me, we'd see several small "narrative bundles". Think of lore like the Battle of Koth Ridge, the Battle of Tyrok Fields, or the fall of Macragge's polar defense stations.

Ideally, they would be set up as follows:
1x HQ, in the form of an "exclusive" sculpt to that bundle. Something like Creed/Kell in the Tyrok Fields set looking like they're in the midst of combat with Creed blazing away with his pistols and Kell holding the banner aloft and smashing someone's face in with his powerfist. Make it something dramatic and eyecatching, and these would be a good way to draw people's attention.
1x Troops choice. This can be a repackage of the "normal" sprues, or go into another set of "exclusives". For Koth Ridge, for example, a set of Scouts that look like the artwork from Codex: Dark Angels could be devised.
1x Objective Marker and a small set of scenery themed to the bundle. Maybe a wrecked Chimera buried in mud, a dead Astartes clutching a Chapter Relic. The possibilities for these are endless!

Include a brief write-up of the battle on the back of the bundle, package scenarios within which allow something similar to be fought--bazinga. You've got a product which is eyecatching and could potentially be made to fit within a box about the size of a Rhino/Drop Pod/Chimera box.

I can't imagine the Steel Legion will ever be coming back. Their style mirrors the DKoK too closely, and the DKoK are a cash cow for Forgeworld.

I'd like to see Imperial Guard vs somebody (Eldar? Chaos?) in order to influence some players in another direction than Space Marines, but like the man said, who are we kidding? It's going to be Space Marines vs one of the upcoming non-Imperial codex books' armies.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

They're dudes and they have gasmasks, but their similarities are pretty superficial. Krieg is modeled after WW1 French while the Steel Legion are modeled after WWII German paratroopers. They're distinct enough, both fluffwise and modelwise to do well. Besides, with a plastic redesign they could definitely get some new details or motifs that distinguish them further.

Right now he is the lead designer for the Dust Warfare game due out end of this quarter by FFG.

As for starter box Ork and Tau would of been nice.

Tau vs Tyranids a bit like the current fantasy one doesn't have empire in it. No Imperium. And since I collect both armies.

With three bolt together battlesuits (one being a commander)

eight pathfinders

twelve kroot

twelve fire warriors

and for the nids

A plastic nid prime

eight stealers

twenty gaunts

What I would personally like there to be several starter sets, so people can pick one up with thier chosen army.

Orks vs Tau
Imperial Guard vs Chaos
Grey Knights vs Demons
Dark Eldar vs Space Marines
Eldar vs Tyranids
Necrons vs Space Wolves/Blood Angels

Just a rough idea, but I think it would be good. High costs to do it though, so it will never happen.

Just to confuse the hell out of everybody.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

while this would actually encompass a lot, GW would lose money on the GK models hand over foot. GK's are point heavy and you don't use many of them.

I think IG vs "Nids would be good, except that it would not include the space marines, and thats 40k's entire premise (yes all you non imperialist scumbags, 40K is based solely around the Space Marines, lookit up LOL)

Maybe SM vs Tau as someone suggested. tau models look great and they sell well until people actually play them.

then again, with all the 'Crons stuff coming out, good ole SM vs Necron might sell well too.

yea i'm gonna go SM vs Necron.
