My vote is for Angron and with him a Daemon Prince, definitely.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Angron I believe, as long as it wasn't a drinking contest.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

I don't want to sound like a SW fanboy, but I have to say I'd give this one to Russ. Sure, Angron most likely could win- in an arena-style fight; that's his specialty, after all. He'd also be stronger and more fierce than Russ. But I'd say that in those terms, Russ is second only to him, and considering how damned cunning Russ is, I really doubt Angron be able to best him in open combat on the battlefield.

And if we're talking retinues; you also have to account for Njal, Ulrik, and Arjac plus a few Wolf Guard terminators.

In the year 40k, Angron would most certainly win, cuz he's been elevated to a Daemon Prince and is even angrier. In the year 30k, I'm not sure. 50/50 odds I guess.

I wouldn't say 50/50. Russ was about even with the Lion, but the only people Angron has been said to be on par with are Sanguinius and Horus.

Exactly why Russ would be beat. When I saw the topic I had assumed they meant pre heresy, as post heresy there cannot be any question.

Angron hands down. What would Russ do with his "Battlefield Cunning"? Throw dirt in his face and pee on his leg?

Wasn't Russ the executioner?

I'm pretty sure he was built to keep the other Primarchs in check.

When the Emp' made Russ, he didn't expect one of the Primarchs to become a crazed daemon from another dimension......

Here's the only real answer: no one knows.

The two never fought. They never even fought the same opponents. There's no way to tell.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

There's a quote from the books that directly states only Horus or Sanguinius could defeat Angron. Since Leman Russ is neither of those two, we know Angron would win.

No there isn't.

There's a quote in a book of someone guessing the only things that could defeat Angron were Horus and Sanquinius.

Since we know with irrefutable fact that Horus wasn't the best fighting primarch (look at what killed him on Davin), that opinion is even more suspect.

Wait a sec how does getting stabbed with a poisioned blade by some possessed nutjob make him irrefutably not the best primarch?

Well, magic swords and the element of surprise do tend to help in that situation...

Last time I check, Hours killed about 90% of the emperor, after smacking Sanguinius around and throwing his corpse at daddy.

The fact that this was when he was Chaos empowered tends to make people say 'Oh, he would have been Sanguinius' b*tch otherwise.' Personally, I'd say Horus would have won but taken damage in the fight.

Accoridng to some of the Sanguinius fluff he did do some tiny damage to horus, a small chink in his armour through which the emperor killed him with MIND BULLETS

that's telekinesis Kyle

The alternative take on that story is that the chink in the armor was more metaphorical. It was the Emperor seeing Sanguinius' corpse that made him believe that Horus couldn't be saved, thus leading to the Emperor burning Horus down. Or you could go with saying that killing his best loved brother caused Horus to hold back just enough to allow the Emperor to win.

Neither party was surprised in that endeavor. The magical properties of the weapon are irrelevant as well.

Horus was stabbed in a non-trivial matter by a (possessed) human.

Based on evidence alone, one must conclude Horus was the worst primarch in close combat. None of the others ever had something like that happen.

Have you even read the book? It was a Daemon blessed blade specifically meant to kill HIM and no one else. And he still won the fight anyways; it was the poison from the blade, created by Nurgle himself, that almost killed him.

His point wasn't that the blade nearly killed him, it's that he managed to get stabbed in the first place.

And technically, Alpharious managed to get stabbed by a semi-augmented human armed with a non-daemon (or power) weapon. So I'd say the twins get to come in last in any CC contest.

sword tactics are meant to make sense, disarming tactics work because people will, 99.9% of the time will let go of their weapon out of instinct to avoid hurting themselves. Horus expected his disarming tactic to work, not for temba to allow his wrist to be shattered and keep coming. However after he disemboweled him and watched him snap both of his ankles and keep coming with "speed that belied his massive frame" perhaps he should have been a bit more on guard for normal tactics not to work.
