what are peoples thoughts on using vampire count warhounds as stand-ins for dark eldar khymarae? i have them mounted on the 40mm base that would be required of the finecast version... but im wondering on legalaty etc, since they will be part of my tourney army, and i would like to avoid any potential issues. and to avoid the required obvious, i have sent an email to the TO in charge as well. im just wondering if the gaming community in general would see a problem with this stand in regarding LOS etc.

You're not the first to do this.

I feel it's completely acceptable.

Heck of a lot cheaper too.

Generally speaking, tournament organizers don't get mad if you use other GW models; I know a guy who put a High Elf Prince on a jetbike and called him an Autarch and got away with it in at least one tournament,

Totally legal to use GW products to make or count as other GW products. After all, this is first and foremost a miniatures company.

though so. and i believe the models are pretty close size wise... so i guess im fine. dosent hurt to double check things before showing up to tourney models in hand.

You should absolutely check with the TO before showing up, as he will have the final say. Even if he is wrong, it will be really hard to get GW to convince him otherwise before the first round on a Saturday morning.

General rule: If the model is about the same size, and put on the same base size as the original model, you can't go wrong.

Considering that the new Crypt Horrors from the Vampire Counts line make great Grotesques, you could actually keep a not-quite-VC theme going in your DE army!

I just looked for "warhounds" on the VampCounts page. There aren't any. Are they the same thing as "Dire Wolves"? I ask, as I'm not familiar with WarHammer Fantasy.

If so, then yes, I've used 'em a few times, and even had the TO order them from GW for the expressed purpose of having them as Khyms.

If you *really* catch grief, bend the truth a little and state that you got them before GW issued the new Khym model.

I'm using the left over models as Chaos Daemon Khorne Dogs (Flesh Hounds of Khorne). I'll just paint 'em really red, and have glued on Khorne bling.

on the forum. Obviously

As long as they painted to look like something from the warp, it should be fine. Green stuff may be handy if you want to make it really clear.

Sorry to nitpick, but can you make the title clearer? "Thoughts" doesn't really say anything.

friendly pick up games, most tourneys and even some major events you should be alright to play with your army the way you want. I would say it really comes to large tourneys like hard boyz nationals which they won't allow you to use the models in other words unless you wanted to be national champ don't really worry about it
