I'm assembling a small deathwatch kill team and need help choosing a chapter for my last man.
The concept i chose was that of a specialist group led by a radical inquisitor to help him in his research.

Leader and Sword Fighter - Stormwarden, 'cause i like them
Heavy Flamer Operator - Salamander, pretty obvious
Tech-Expert - Iron Hands or Sons of Medusa
Biology Expert - Red Scorpions with all their purity talk and above average Apothecary numbers
Psychic Phenomena - Blood Ravens, a Lexicanium i thought
Xeno Expert - ???

I friend of mine suggested the Iron Lords for their killing sprees in the Grendl Stars, but I somehow thought that it would fit
better if there was a chapter that had kind of a silent respect for the alien cultures... not to the point of siding with them, but
a mindset that could be somehow more useful then "let's burn every piece of gear they leave behind, 'cause it's heresy."

I'm no fluff exprert, is there somthing like it around?

Mentors Chapter could be a good fit for a Xenos expert, since Intel seems to be their thing.

Other than that your Xenos expert could be from a very nasty chapter and be focused on how best to kill them, just because you respect something does not mean you dont study how best to kill that something, usually thats the best approach.

Blood Ravens are more the thing you're going for...
I'd switch out the Librarian for a different chapter (Dark Angels?) and make the xeno expert a Blood Raven something...

At the risk of asking a stupid question: isn't the inquisitor a xeno expert, since deathwatch kill teams are commanded by the inquisition's ordo xenos?

There doesn't seem to be much in the fluff or on lexicanum about a chapter with the sort of "silent respect" thing going on. This would be cool but I'm not surprised it doesn't exist - it goes against what marines were created for!

Of all the chapters, I would say the Black Templars fit the bill as the astartes' xeno experts. They crusade all over the galaxy confroning every species of alien there is.

"Know the alien; kill the alien." Sounds like a deep understanding

Maybe the Ultramarines, they always seem like the least fanatical, and plus they worked with the Tau. So you could have Ultramarine who somewhat understands xenos.
Calgar said he respected the tau.

yeah, but i'd think for some assignments the inquisitor would simply trow the kill team in and say "fetch me this piece of tech" or "a specimen of that"

there are some ideas here, and i thank you for that, but none clicks in my head...
i could swap out the blood raven, but dark angels don't strike me as i right fit for the lexicanum-brother
mentor legion is kind of strange reading about it, i guess it's because of the old fluff.
and black templar would be a fine xeno-hunter but i simply can't see him armed with a combiplasma instead of a Zweihänder...

but a similar fleet-based chapter with lots of experience seems to be the closest to what i had in mind
that or white scars and riff on the idea of expert huntsmen.

You could try a mantis warrior for the librarian, iirc they use different kinds of psyker sneakyness, bordering on sorcery, to play hit and run and always be 3 steps ahead. Although their isolationism might make them less willing to lend their warriors, maybe have it as some sort of penance for their part in the badab war.

Ultramarines are experts at killing Tyranids and they've worked with the Tau before.

I second the mentors. Genius level intellect seems like it could work for any specialist unit.

Out of all of them the mentors seem to have a bit more knowledge of xenos tech. however all thier knowledge is given to them from the ad mech. Who, to me, dont seem to be too xenos friendly.

My mate is making a DW kill team and all of them are from unknown/ no-one has heard of chapters. I recommend making your own for this reason.

In my old SM armies fluff i tried to make my psyker a half eldar. I was shouted down for this heresy. Which is a damn shame as they used to breed in the old fluff.

The Death Spectres might fit the bill, they watch over the Ghoul Stars, which are apparently filled with weird Cthuloid aliens.

The Marines Errant would be another possible choice, they, according to Imperial Armour X, have spent much of their existence on the Imperium's fringes. It's even rumoured in-universe that they are willing to employ xenos weaponry.

Or you could simply double up, no reason your Librarian couldn't also be a Xenos expert.

I too vote for the Death Spectres. The Ghouls Stars could be filled with all sorts of alien nasties (Flayed One kingdoms at the very least according to the Necron Codex). I also would recommend a Mentor in there in really any position, joining other Imperial task forces and learning stuff is their MO after all.

I'd say Ultramarines, experience fighting Orks, Tyrannic War Veterans, experience working with Tau. The third company is called 'The Scourge of the Xenos'. I'd say they're a good bet.
