1st squad, 5th company.

Damn decals took FOREVER to set properly. I still see the odd crinkle. By comparison I freehanded the skulls on the kneepads in about 25 minutes.

Beautiful stuff, as always. What do you use for the transfers, out of interest? Is Micro Sol/Set or something like that?

Fantastic, the glowing eyes are bang on, and it's a technique I cant seem to grasp!

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Yep, microsol and microset. The gloss here is Vallejo Model Colour gloss varnish as opposed to my usual Klear / Future. It dries faster. Still a bit shiny after a 50-50 gloss / matt varnish mix, may go back with a satin varnish later.

*groan*. Just noticed a mistake. That Kneepad shouldn't be a skull, there's only 2 assault squads in 5th co, and 1st squad ain't one of 'em.
Repaint time. :-)

The yellow is executed perfectly, and all the OSL looks fantastic. They're still a bit shiny, though, so maybe the matte varnish is a good idea?

Wow....those marines are very well done! I love the little damage marks and the yellow is simply amazing. How did you do those battle marks?

I like how they look dynamic without looking posed. I also like the flower on the sergeant's base. It provides a nice juxtaposition with the inherent violence of the models. The OSL from the eyes is nice and understated, which is perfect, since most OSL is over the top. Two questions: the first, did you do the handguard on the sergeant's sword yourself?

Second question is a bit more complicated. I've always avoided decals since my first experience with them ended in disaster. Not like 'I-ripped-this-decal' disaster, but more akin to 'my-wife-left-me-and-burned-my-house-down-with-my-children-still-inside' disaster. I can never get the flat decals to lay down smooth on a curved surface. If you have a moment, could you possibly expound on how you did it? While you say you can still see the odd wrinkle, I myself cannot, and would love to replicate the way you do it.

There's no custom sculptwork on these, just straightforward kitbashing. Sanguinary Guard, Death Company and regular Assault Marine parts. God knows which, I mix 'em up.

The decals to be honest, look a lot better now (the pics have been changed) after a bit more varnish. Pretty much bang on what they should be now. As for the technique, this is the method I follow:

http://blog.winterdyne.co.uk/2010/12/applying-waterslide-decals-step-by-step.html

With these, I painted over the yellow blood drop decal for a black 5th Co. marking. I used Vallejo Model Color gloss varnish for the gloss stages.

Wow! So the flower in the 1st pick is in serious danger of being crushed!

Not to be redundant, but the eyes....spectacular, esp. the glowing reflection of the brow effect.

Top notch!
