What's out there that you've never managed to beat in our, at times, most infuriating of hobbies?

I could never crack a 4th ed Nidzilla list. Not even once. Tried melta and plasma spam, did everything I knew, but no dice In Blood Bowl I've had the worst luck against Nurgle teams for whatever reason as well (curse you Disturbing Presence!), though I still show 'em what for every now and then. In Anima I've never once killed the Legacy, though I have wiped the rest of the team using it.

Make this thread interesting, Dakka!

Damnable Nidzilla. :E

Why for you remind me of that awfulness.

I could never beat either. I had lots of trouble beating wood elves, to be honest. All those damn trees :(

You know, I've sat here and thought. I then got up and walked around, and came back and sat, and thought. There is nothing I couldn't beat, except infantry spam from guard with my tau. Damn them and their going to ground, only to come back up next turn with an order.

Same problem here.

Something like 14 Chimeras including 4 Squads Veterans of which 3 have Meltas, one Plasmas, one Medusa for sniping tanks, one Demolisher, one Leman Russ, too many autocannons and the like. Exact details may vary but this set up works quite successfully here.

I've never been able to actually destroy a Holo-Field Fire Prism. Perhaps it's because 'weapon destroyed' is good enough. Perhaps it's because they're nearly impossible to wreck. Either way, I've just never been able to get one to explode and/or be wrecked even as it flies around like a missile tankshocking/ramming everything once the Prism Cannon fell off.

A friend of mine plays a Venomspam DE army. There's just tons of Venoms, Raiders, and more splintercannons and darklances/blasters than I can even comprehend. I've played it with my Chaos Marines, Guard, and Orks, and I was only ever able to beat them with my mobs of Boyz. Even then, it felt like a really hollow victory since I was getting reamed the entire game, only to have the game end on turn 5 before he could swoop in on my objectives.

Back in 4th ed when my friends and I were all still very new to the game, I had the hardest time beating a Chaos opponent of mine. His rolls were always absolutely insane (I've seen him pass 36 2+ saves on one model in one shooting phase before) and since I was playing Dark Angels, everything in his codex seemed to one up mine in some way or another. I did beat him a few times (mostly in team games) but the rivalry there was great.

Greydurp Knights. How I loath that codex with every fibre of my being!

Okay, admitidly it's because of the high number of complete d-bags who bring the filthiest of the filth lists and me playing Daemons... But seriously! How the hell I am supposed to put a dent in something as hienous as;
- Libby w/dark ex, sanctuary, MoT, shrouding.
- 5 wound allocated pallies w/2x psycannon + bro banner
- Stormraven

- Crowe tax

- 2x Techie w/grenades 'o win
- 2x 8 purifyers w/2 psycannons, 2 hammers, 4 halberds
- 2x rhinos

- 10 Intercepters (no upgrades)
- 2x 5 strikes (no upgrades) each in rhinos.

I litterly have almost nowhere to land if I loose the roll for 1st turn, and there's very little I actually want to get into combat with. The libby is death to anything in my army, forcing me to throw at least 2 squads into the pallies. (who are more than happy to rip me to shreads)
The purifyers are basically an auto-lose thanks to the durpy grenades. 'Thisters, princes, hounds, fiends, 'crushers... All of them have misserably failed thanks more to the damn grenades than anything else!

I hate playing the local GK players... Pretty much every last one of them spams the crap out of the rad/psychos in any list, and that's when I'm lucky enough to be allowed the good decency to land half my army before the warp quake shinanigans begin.
If I had a dollar for every time warp quake has fethed over my army, I could likely buy majority shares in the company by now!

A certain IG/bretonia player in my area. LUCKIEST. MOTHER. FETHER. EVER. The sheer number of 5+ saves he makes will make you rip your own head off. His guard line got multi-charged by everything a dark eldar player had. It even made a little smiley face on the board (I have pics on my phone). He won combat. щ(゚Д゚щ)

Craftworld Eldar. A balanced mix of mobile infantry, precision heavy weapons etc and a canny player using them is something my 'sledgehammer' of a battlewagon based list just can't come to combat with and it picks and picks away at my less mobile force, taking advantage of side and rear armour.

I have fond memories of a certain clever player (Craftworld Alex) from Bristol Vanguard, taking out my two loota squads with one unit of swooping hawks, template for one, shooting the other, whilst his trio of jetbikes flew in behind the battlewagons and started sniping them out with a shuriken cannon to the AV10. His list was entirely non-spam and very mixed and it was, above all other things, played very well, sniping the crap out of me.

4TH ED: My buddies Black Templars, as a new player learning the ropes and playing as tau against a early to mid 4th ed vet, i kept shooting him and his squads just kept running towards me. I tried everything, Suit spam, Fire warrior spam, devilfish and fire warriors, Broadsides and a hammerhead or 2. Very little worked. I think i only ever beat him in Apoc and maybe 1 or 2 team matches.

5th ED: my buddies chaos spam with the 3.5 ed dex before the 4/5th ed one came out. His orks are also a pain in my broadside. He's switched over to BA now and sold his chaos after the frustation with the codex. As tau ive never been able to crack his list. Its like everything he makes is gold.

Since i went IG though ive been having a ton more luck. Im not sure if its because they suit my tatics better or because of the codex being made for 5th but ive had a hard time finding the motivation to play tau since i got them.

With that small of a list could you not go with a more shooty daemons army? It seems you could easily outnumber him 1.5 -2 to 1 with that kind of list and burn him down with lots of pink horrors and tzeench daemon princes/heralds?

When your wife suggests roleplay as a result of your table top gaming... life just seems right

I took my wife thru the BRB for fantasy and 40k, the first thing she said was "AWESOME"... codex: Chaos Daemons Nurgle..... to all those who says God aint real....

Been there, tried that... Mono-Tzeentch is my main build because I enjoy the shooty'ness of it and because Tzeentch himself is a funny b d!
Problem is, daemons have no shooting beyond 24" range, with the majority of it being 12"-18" range, so it's hard to keep out of reach if I can't pop the transports... The ability to also basically dictate where I can deep strike through warp quake makes it almost impossible to stay away from the choppy stuff, as the quake zones will lock-off the areas further away from the hitty stuff thanks to the intercepters.

Chaos Space Marines.

I'm nearly a decent player now with my Orks. I've beaten Space Marines, Space Wolves, Imperial Guard, Tau, Eldar, and (old) Necrons. Not bragging here, I've lost just as many games, if not more, to the aforementioned armies too.

But when it comes to Chaos Space Marines I just cannot shift them. Although I've not played them since I've learnt to use my Nob Warbikers to full effect.

I've not beaten Dark Eldar, but neither have I lost to them.
And I did lose my only games against Orks and Blood Angels, but both when I was a noob to 40K.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

One guy in my community has the most blessed dice I've ever seen. If he needed snake eyes, he'd roll them-every time. It's gotten to the point that we question whether his dice are loaded. But he's pretty much the nicest guy ever, used to teach all the new players, give great tips and even used to be a rough rider for GW (or w/e the hell they were called). So, nobody ever called him out. Still, never beaten him. Even when he handed me a throwaway game in fantasy, 7th edition. I had daemons, he had wood elves. Throwaway game, right? I still got slaughtered. All my dice failed, my casters blew their own heads off (all of them) and his dice were on fire.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Daemons and Tyranids. I haven't played them much but I've lost every time. There was one time I tied Tyranids, but that was because I wiped all of his troops. He still had 2x Zoanthropes, a Trigon Prime, and 2 Warriors. I had a Space Marine Captain with 1 wound left and nothing else. The game ended on turn 5 and we were playing bases.

I think I've gotten much better with much better lists. For instance, I don't use captains anymore. It's been a while since I played them, but I've been itching for a re-match.
