Hey Dakka,
I've seen some pretty cool ones, but what are the coolest themed you've ever seen? By theme I mean movies, books, video games etc.

You'll be wanting to use alot of Sentinels then. A nice bit of kit, legs can be a bit fiddly to get right the first few times. Converting them can be abit of a pain but so long as you have plas-card, a steel rule and imagination that kit is your best bet

@TheFatElf - The Goliath is a slightly modified Sentinel. I flipped the waist over and pushed the cockpit beckward and upward and then fiddled the engines a bit to make is closer to the original source. The weapon mounts are Predator HB sponsons with the old metal sentinel ACs added. The missile launchers are Landspeeder typhoon launchers.
@RibonFox - The Mk4 is extremely droolworthy! When will the vultures and mad cats be rolled out?
The other sentinel based walker I did for this army was the Viking using a heavily footled-with dreadnought chassis:
I can't find any pictures of it just now, but there was another fantastically themed army on here a while back. A Counts-as daemon army consisting entirely of melted and painted polystyrene cubes of different sizes It made waves, but I was amused and impressed in roughly equal measure:

It's always interesting :B
Though the Kittylith seems to only work correctly when the lights are on. I was gonna put speakers on it, but I'm a little scared of a HAL-like rebellion <.<

The Tau armies that have been done as Covenant, with the metallic purple vehicles are particularly inventive. My buddy has an entire army of un-build Tau, and I have thought about getting some of them off him for small kill-team size games. My Kroot Mercs would make good Jackals.
Although with all the newbies in this game lately, my SW 13th Company, Kroot Mercs, or Legion of the Damned armies from 3-4th edition would probably be seen as 'theme' armies..........

I like the idea but I wouldn't. Maybe if he had one squad like this with a 'blockomancer' controlling it, but not a whole army.

I have come to the conclusion that I am a Gaming Whore, as I've yet to see anything I won't play against. Though a lot of this is in the spirit of inclusion. A new player, or a guy who's starting a new army but hasn't got it all yet, gets a pass for not having dropped $800 worth of toys on the table. Same guy 4 months down the line is pushing it. But I don't know anyone who's had a guy who loved PaperCraft so well he's still proxying everything even just a month later.

How about the good ole' Blood-Letters? I can't find the pic, it's the one with pipe cleaners on bases, each trooper of a unit being a different letter B-L-O-O-D.

I think its a fantastic bit of lateral thinking as well as an impressive artistic statement. Its not as if its a random selection of items cobbled together and jammed down on the table. There is logic in the shapes and colours used for each unit and it represents an army that comes fro the very stuff of randomness. I love it Otherwise you're just getting into price bigotry by demanding that everyone pays just as much as you to play a game. Heh... I wonder if you could get into a tournament by only using polystyrene that came in GW boxes

I can support a little 'price bigotry' but I'm much more interested in "investment". There may not be a lot of MONEY in those, but they have time and effort in them.
Also, the TO would be within his rights to ask for proof that all your polystyrene came from GW boxes, which would be hard to present. Sprue Necrons however don't have that issue.
