Cant believe there isn't a thread on this amazing game already!

Which class are you looking forward to playing and why??

Im currently super excited for the barbarian, It seems to have a high skill curve in the fact that its the class thats always in the most danger. I love tanky classes and big swords and badass armour are epic. Cant wait to get my hands on this one!

Its spelled Barbarian.

As much as I love Warhammer 40000 and all of it's awesomeness and grim darkness - I must here say Clone Commandos would won the day.

Have now Ill be interested to see what opinions are. I saw one poll on a different website with Demonhunter leagues in front of the competition, which was quite surprising!

Usually a wizard of some sort (necro in 2), though maybe I'll mix it up and go demonhunter.

I'll stay true to my roots:

D1 Warrior

D2 Barbarian

D3 Barbarian

Why? Cause I like dual wielding great swords.

None of the new classes appeal to me very much as they went for some thematically “weird” classes. I’ll probably go with Wizard given how “gear intensive” Diablo 2 was and the fact that the Wizard is a direct clone of the Sorceress (which was a very powerful class that didn't need much gear). I’ll probably play a melee class when new classes are added via expansions/patches.

Barbarian for me. Fun to play, and one of the least "silly" characters for my personal taste. I've always had a tendency to go for non-casters, anyways.

Also, I love friggin' two-handed swords!

It was a toss-up between the Barb and the Doktor... Barb won though, its always been the first class i play in Diablo Games (used warrior in 1 but then barb in that Hellfire script-cutting-corners-download-thing where you unlock a monk and barb) and just for the fact that i will be using a big arsed hammer yelling "I AM MIGHTY THOR!!!"

The Witch Doctor looks like fun (rain of toads/ football chargin zombies anyone?)

WAAAHG!!! until further notice

Demonhunter, my main class in WoW is a Hunter, and she seems to be a similar fit, minus the pet of course. Plus I like ranged.

Based on these numbers, I might actually roll Witch Doctor after all. I was expecting more people to jump on that.

Well, its archetype is ranged. It uses crossbows and can roll or "dodge" 30 feet in any direction. A relatively weak class, if it gets surrounded its got nothing, its true power lies in rear support in groups or exploiting enemies close combat nature or sluggishness to win fights when alone.

I feel kind of bad, only because I'm really really tempted to skip this. None of the classes excite me (and, for some reason, I envision WoW clones which are clones of D2 characters) and game play looks identical to D2 (which was identical to D1). I just feel like it's going to be SC2 for me again.

The big difference here is. Diablo 1 was much better then SC1. I can still play D1 and D2 without caring. Love m.

The main difference in the scenarios is that between D2 and D3, nothing has come along that improved upon the formula. Other games following the formula since then haven't added anything terribly new or really necessary.

The reason SC2 was such a disappointment for me was that it ignored the improvements of the RTS genre other companies had done and was thus such a direct clone of the first it felt like it was outdated upon release.

Pretty much. I remember completely wearing out my mouse on the first Diablo. Too bad there's no Palladin type class, I had a ton of fun with my "Smite-r-din."

New graphics, engine, weapons, abilities and story aren't enough?

I wish I could ask that much of some modern games these days.

If SC2 had changed to the modern RTS formula (I assume by that you mean using squads, regenerative renewable resources and having faster gameplay) it wouldn't be nearly as tactical and wouldn't live up to its die hard fans expectations.

Change a game too much and you're going to insult as many, if not more people, than you're going to please.

No, honestly, it WASN'T enough. The game played exactly the same as the original, and after years of RTS games that weren't SC, it felt lackluster, dull, and made me wonder why it took them so long to put out a game that was just, to me, a shinier version of the old one(and yes, I do honestly know how much work they put into games from the ground up, I wonder why they built it that way for something that's so almost exact to the original). I honestly got bored playing it because there was no innovation.

Honestly, while I'm looking forward to D3, I'm a little worried, because Blizzard seems stuck in a rut created by their own success where they keep retreading the same thing over and over. They're like the Seth Macfarlane of video games.

That would require us to have expected them to make any changes, right?

Because I didn't expect Blizzard to innovate. That would be silly. Even their original games weren't really innovative...
