So I don't post to many painted minis here on Dakka. I have a severe case of hobby ADHD. I do things that interest me, so I tend to jump around a whole lot. I have 12 dragons I want to finish this year, and now I have added Super Dungeon Explore to my list.

My current goal is to finish SDE in time for Adepticon. Finishing this task is so important to me that I sent out my Kill Team to a commission painter. I need that in time for Adepticon as well, but would never be able to finish it all in time. Since SDE interests me far more that's what I kept to work on. Also my Kill Team is a lot cheaper to paint than an entire boxed game. Hopefully posting will help keep me motivated to finish this job. I am also hoping I can set up a few games with Dakka members at Adepticon.

I am attempting to improve my painting skills. If you look at my old Night Lords gallery and some of my current stuff you will see a huge difference (imo). Gallery votes on my new stuff would be appreciated. I realize I have a very long way to go before I get 8-10s, but I am hopeful that someday I will.

Couple of other pictures first:

My Ultraforge Treelord

My Steam Dragon WIP

Even though the Steam Dragon is almost all resin I have still decided that it needs many pins. All of his large appendages are pinned. I left him unglued for now to ease painting. Dotting in all those rivets is a tedious task.

Now onto my SDE. These are just about finished. I only have some lining in to do, and a few other small details. My goal painting these was to mimic the right hand buttons on video game controllers. I will probably use a lot of these colors throughout the project. This is the first time I have used white primer. Still need a ton of layers to get a nice solid effect, but I love how bright they are.

Hope you enjoy.

Jason.

I agree, they're nice and colourful and contrast well with the bases.

Wow, I love the button color idea for SDE. Absolutely brilliant! Nice job on them, very cartoony, which is a great thing.

I'm working on painting SDE myself, but started with the heroes. You were smart to start with the bad guys... I should have done that, and left the heroes as milestone prizes! (I.e I get to paint a hero one I finish so many evil minions).

Also I totally love steampunk dragon. What is it, who is manufacturer?

Funny you mention Heroes as milestones. I just painted the Paladin last night after finishing the others I was working on.

I find that I can barely scrape up the motivation to paint 40k anymore. All of my current projects are not 40k, and I don't have any plans to go back to it any time soon. Still collecting, but I am getting more fulfillment out of other projects. I guess I got burnt out on 40k after 3 different armies.

(This is me subscribing in the name of uber-bright SDE critters )

Great stuff big and small so far, will be watching for more! And you have also got me contemplating SDE again. Love me some SDE kobolds and have had several Stupid Schemes involving them so far, but from what I can tell they never fixed the faces on them when they went from metal to plastic?

Anyway, rock on!

Thanks to everyone following. I find it much easier to work on a project when I have some encouragement.

As Gymnogyps had mentioned about leaving heroes as milestones, that is exactly how I intended to do my painting. There's a ton of baddies and throwing in a hero every now and then will help break up the monotony of the whole project. I am doing everything I can to stay interested in this. I really want these all done up in time for Adepticon. I plan on many many games that weekend. So far I have played a demo at Templecon, and Angela and I played a very small game the other night. I plan to play at least once a week, and hopefully a bit more than that.

I am a bit old school in my feelings on gaming. If my models aren't painted I won't play them (other than small home games). So it's very important to keep at this if I plan on taking it to Adepticon.

My first hero I chose was the Paladin. I used him in the demo I played and I think he's my favorite of the bunch. He makes for a great Tank. I still have a bit of touching up to do on him but he's about ready to go. This was my first attempt at anime style eyes, and for the most part I am happy with how they turned out. While I do want everything to look nice I also realize it's a game. One that I plan on playing many many times. Therefore I need to move along on my painting and not get hung up on any one mini for to long. The exception to that will be the dragon Starfire. I plan on giving her much love.

Enough rambling. Here's some pictures.

One of these days I need to take the time to build a lightbox and gather the materials to get my lighting white instead of yellow. For now you will just have to bear with me.

Hope you enjoy.
Jason.

Super Dungeon Explore, Dungeon based board game. A bit like SNES RPGs and HeroQuest mashed together.

And yes, we loves them dragons.. and the Cutebolds.

Ouch, $90 for the starter set? That seems kind of steep.... I'll have to calculate the effectiveness of SDE dragons against those of Squigs. Ladies love squigs. But then again, I probably have a higher chance of getting people to play that instead of a full on DnD game.....

I'mma going to subscribe this. I need fully painted samplings. Keep up the good work

Not 'starter set', but 'complete game'. Its a Board Game that has around 60 or so miniatures. $90 is about the standard price for these sort of games.

IMO the value is there. CMON is one of my distributors. When SDE first came out I had most of my money in other things, so I missed stocking some of them. That all being said, when I saw all the components and the board itself I hopped right on over and gladly paid retail. I didn't want to wait for the second printing.

My only complaint is the plastic used is VERY hard. Mold lines were very difficult to remove, and in the end I did end up leaving some of them. These were some of the hardest models I have ever had to clean up. Even tougher than metal..

Didn't know about the hard plastic, but I've seen the models from SDE in-person and also think it's a good value. And it's too cute to resist (although I have so far, since I wouldn't get it painted, and a number of friends picked it up)

Mine has absolutely got to be painted. I'm quite excited to see it all come together. Now back to that Dragon Priest.

Thanks for all the positive comments so far. I am excited to be making positive progress. I finished up my first of 2 Dragon Priests. The thing I like the most about this model is I was able to use all 4 of the colors being used on the Baddies. If you look hard enough you may even catch a glimpse of an Ogre that I started base coating.

I am considering moving this into the main forums. There hasn't been to much of this game on the boards. If this thread suddenly goes missing, it's out in the P&M Blogs.

Hope you enjoy.

Yup it sure is. I'm sure I will get caught up on a few of the heroes, but all in all it's a fairly easy project.

I've been thinking of getting a 2nd copy as well. The extra stuff would be great to have for larger games.
