Cute is what I really enjoy about SDE. It's such a change up from what I usually paint. Really enjoying it. More so then anything I've painted in the last few years.

So I managed to get in a good amount of painting over the weekend. I am chipping right away at this project and am confident I will have it done in time. I have a ton of work to get done today but wanted to hop in for a quick update.

First Ogre completed

6 Gougers are now WIP

and the 2nd Dragon Priest.

A group shot of everything done to this point.

and look what showed up in the mail today.

Once I finish the Gougers and Dragon Priest, I am going to take some time and do a hero or 2.

Thanks for all your comments. Hope you enjoy.
Jason.

So how much did that Hero cost you?

The Ogre looks incredibly good, mate. I like how you've taken the idea of the Facial Buttons for a controller and applied them.

I didn't know they'd done Candy & Cola for SDE - I've got the Relic Knights version.

Candy & Cola was a bit pricey, but I'm satisfied with my purchase. I never mind paying a premium for limited edition minis.

I don't take credit for the idea. I have drawn inspiration from a bunch of different sources. The demo copy at Templecon had a lot of multiple colors. I am also using the extensive gallery on boardgame geek.com. http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/92190/super-dungeon-explore

I should have these Kobolds and Dragon Priest wrapped up sometime tomorrow. Hoping to work on a hero or two after this set.

Those look fantastic, I like the fact that you've gone so bright on these, really suits that cute anime style they've gone for with those minis. Makes me want to buy a copy, but I might have to wait for my b-day

Pray tell us, what is your painting recipe for those wonderful minis? (specifically, how did you get such bold colours)

Everything is GW paints except for the gold on the Paladin. That is one of the Reaper triads. I started with a white primer, then a do a dark base coat. Once the basecoat is solid I start adding watered down layer, after watered down layer. Once I build the highlight color up to a good solid coat I ink my lines and call it a day.

Reds
1. Redgore base.
2. Blood Red Highlight.
3. Brown ink for the lines.

Yellows.
1. Iiaynden Darksun
2. Golden Yellow
3. Brown Ink

Blue
1. Enchanted Blue
2. Ultramarines Blue.
3. Blue Ink.

Green.
1 Goblin Green.
2. Scorpion Green
3. Green Ink.

I am considering painting a few copies of the game to sell in my ebay store. By limiting my pallet I think I can crank out a copy every ten days or so once I have all my colors worked out.

Great progress! Man, I am jealous of how quickly you are getting done with these guys!

I'm trying to work through my dragons right now. I have to admit, the Ogres intimidates me a bit, as do the numbers of the kobolds, so I am leaving them for last.

Edit - I wish I would have made the leap and gotten that LE Candy& Cola. ;'( What a great mini. Can't wait to see what you do with it!

Yeah I really like the Candy & Cola mini. Iv'e actually started painting her up. First group of Kobolds are pretty much finished as well.

I will grab some pictures later today and do a new update.

Time for another update. These were taken earlier today. I have made a bit more progress since then, but will go ahead and post what Iv'e done so far.

Here is the Gougers and Dragon Priest finished. Also included in the picture is the rest of the Baddies up to this point.

Here we see Candy and Cola in progress.

Hopefully I will be able to do much more work this weekend. Hope you enjoy.
Jason.

Time for another update. Iv'e been fairly busy lately and haven't put as much time into this as I would like to. We just signed a new lease today and will be moving over the next month so things may get hectic. Going to just keep chipping away.

Still have a bit of work to do on the Fire Mage.

Candy & Cola. Man I had a heck of a time with her eyes. Scraped them clean and repainted them. Still have a bit more work to do on them before deciding if I should strip and redo.

My Heros so far.

Boo Booty.

Working on getting all yellow Kobolds painted.

Hope you enjoy.
Jason.

Things are looking good, and continue to be very clean. One remark on the eyes- the two girls both look very surprised, due to the amount of white around the irises. Not necessarily BAD, just...noting.

I am struggling with the eyes. I still have finishing work on them, and I see what you mean.

On normal eyes, the easy way to alleviate that is to make the pupils a big bigger, and make sure that they intersect with at least the top or bottom eyelid, like you've got going on with the paladin. The gigantic eyes here might make that a bit trickier, but I think if you just moved the the irises a bit to do that it might help a bit. That said, again, I don't think they look bad, they just look surprised.

I appreciate your input. I pulled up some decent web pages showing different eye styles. Candy & Cola is looking better. Still not perfect but better. I thing I am going to leave the Fire Mage stay as is for now though. Her hair makes it a tricky job.

So Iv'e been busy chipping away. I spent time last night fixing up the eyes on Candy & Cola. I actually forgot to grab a picture of the redo though. I will upload one tomorrow. I got a lot of progress done on my 2nd Ogre. Fairly happy with how he is turning out so far. Here's a couple quick pics.

Enjoy.
Jason.

Well life has been a bit hectic lately. We are moving out of state next weekend, so Ive been really busy with packing up my storeroom plus everything else in our apartment. I have still managed to get in a few hours of painting a night. My Kobolds are complete other than a few touchups. The 2nd Ogre needs a bit of work yet, but he's close. Hopefully I will find enough time this weekend to get a few heroes finished up. I am hoping to have everything 100% in time for Adepticon.

Enough rambling. On to some pictures.

Flingers all wrapped up.

Knuckleheads.

Gougers.

Ironscales.

Heroes so far.

Some Hero WIPS.

Yet to finish.

And to wrap up. Something totally different. I am considering a Vostroyan Force in the near future. Testing out a scheme on a Great Coat Commander, from Trollforged Miniatures.

Hope you enjoy.
Jason.

I love those models, great work so far.

My roommates fiance absolutely hates tabletop games from what I can tell, she sits and stares at us like we're insane when we play a game of 40k.

Do you think this is a game that could keep her interested? She enjoys playing munchkin and flux games quite a bit.
How would you rate the quality of the game?
How long does a full game take to finish?
Is the game competitive, or do you function as a team throughout the dungeon crawl?

"Do you think this is a game that could keep her interested? She enjoys playing munchkin and flux games quite a bit."
It is fairly simple to play, and entertaining. Plus cutsie models always help your cause.

"How would you rate the quality of the game?"
I rate the quality at very high. There were some issues with the dragon cast, but I managed to assemble mine with not to much hassle.

How long does a full game take to finish?
A 3 Hero game can take around an hour. 5 Heroe games can take 2+ hours.

Is the game competitive, or do you function as a team throughout the dungeon crawl?
Heroes function as a team. It makes the game very enjoyable. If you have a player that doesnt like to play nicely, then let him be the baddies.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with your treasure chests, I painted mine up last week and I'm not really happy with the way they turned out.

Its good to see your making progress! I highly recommend getting the second set if you want to play larger games, I've found that in larger games I run out of avalible models pretty quick.

Nice job, inquisitorlewis! Your progress is great.

I, too, am leaving the spawn points till the end. I think they'll be pretty easy but I'm just not finding them all that inspiring.

I actually made the plunge and paid the exorbitant price on eBay to get Candy and Cola... just to find out that SodaPop released a second wave! LOL that is OK, I get to paint her, at least.

Good luck with the move. I hate moving, so I feel for you. We're going to try to be moving in the next year or so, just to College Park area MD, but I still dread the idea of packing and moving all this modeling stuff.

I am very annoyed about that 2nd wave. Seems like Limited Edition just doesn't mean the same thing it used to. But enough negative, onto the positives.

Well we move in less than 48 hours. Almost all my hobby stuff is at our new place already. I still have all my SDE stuff and paints yet to pack up. I will be spending the day in the new place tomorrow, waiting on cable/internet hookup. Plus putting stuff away. My plans are to paint a few hours tonight. Then in the morning pack everything up and take it along. Maybe squeezing in a few more hours tomorrow.

Saturday we move. Almost all our heavy stuff is getting pitched. New sectional, kitchen table, and bedroom set shows up monday. This all makes our move much easier. Other than the 65 mile drive everything is smooth.

Will either be painting on Saturday night or squeezing in a game with Angela. Enough rambling already. Time to move onto some pictures.

My Dwarf is almost finished.

Deeproot Druid and Angry Bear.

The Dragon Starfire.

I am pretty happy with how my dragon turned out. She is the reason I bought the game in the first place. I really only have a handful of minis left to paint.

If you haven't seen the newest on SDE be sure to check here for a sneak peak as some expansions and boosters:

Oooh, Starfire! I really like the pale scale contrast on the underside, and the eyes stand out nicely... I may have to improve mine.
