Why isnt it in Codex: Blood Angels?

I've got Land Speeder Storms. With the exception of the aesthetics, I'd rather have the gunship.

Why would you want the LSS?

Without it being a DT for scouts its usefulness is limited, especially when it competes with Stormravens for the FA slot.

It's decent with a vulkan list, since you will get a first turn melta range shot, or have cover during your opponents first turn. For scout spam armies, it works well enough as well. Beyond that, it's only placement is for fluff.

Either way, its still a poorly positioned vehicle. It is decent, but until it become a DT for a scout squad its usefulness is sidelined.

Vanilla gets some unique stuff the other SM chapters don't, and vice-versa. It's just a way to distinguish the armies and allow them to play differently than one another.

I made the mistake of buying it instead of a regular speeder. LSS are a true waste outside of dropping scouts off a an objective or using up points

I actually think they are Brilliant from a tactical point of view, however not being a DT really sucks.


If they were a DT I could have 3 5 man scout squads with CCWs and Pistols, seargent with PF, as an outflanking threat/late game objective grabbers.

It would only cost 450 points for the 3 squads too.

They could also be used as an alpha strike against most things...
Sargeant with a power fist would basically wreck tanks whereas if you just went CC scouts you could put the hurt on a HWS or something similar...

or do both!

Its also one of the few units capable of a 1st turn assault. If you go first you will be hitting stationary vehicles with 3 PF attacks plus the Scouts against armor 10. A nightmare for IG parking lots.


The bonus to this would be that this is coming out of your troops section, not all that competitive in the Marine codex.

You can still do all those things, can't you? LSS have the "Scouts" rule, so they can make a pre-turn 1 scout move, and can outflank with the scouts in them. They just eat up your FA choices.

I don't really get the "they'd be a lot better and would be taken all the time if they were DT" argument. When was the last time anyone made a list that maxed out on FA spots (yeah, I do realize it happens, but just making a general point)?

people that don't max out their FA slots simply havn't discovered Typhoon landspeeders yet.

If you're trying to make an all scouts list then Land Speeders and Scout bikes are both really good but they take the same slots...

You could still take two LSS and a squadron of Typhoons. Or (gasp!) use some other fire support unit.

I take other firesupport units AND typhoons.

But seriously, nothing can beat Typhoons for points to damage output.

How about for turn 1 melta in the face output? Sure you lose one weapon, but you gain another.

Vulkan was already mentioned in the thread. Although you don't need him for turn 1 charges on stationary vehicles with a power fist and krak grenades.

You can still get 2 LSS, 2 scout squads, and 3 Typhoons. And I suspect that between your HS, Elite, and Razors in your Troops, you can still get enough other shooting to fill your points.

Well, also happened to a lot of stuff originally published in Codex Ultramarines.. ya know.. Whirwinds, Razorbacks, Attack Bikes, Landspeeders of all colours, classic Landraider, Veteran Squads, etc.. ., etc.., etc..,
