I recently finished painting my dreadlord. However every time i look at it, there seems to be areas where paint has been chipped off or rubbed off and bear metal is showing. I primed my models with army painter primer. Is there a secret method of sealing a model after painting to prevent this from happening?

Did you make sure to wash the model before you painted? The way to seal a model if it's being handled roughly enough is to first gloss varnish it, then mat varnish to balance out the shine.

Two coats of varnish, first gloss, then matte, should do the trick and stop the chipping.

I got that alot with my metal daemons, I just use a matte varnish spray now, seems to do the trick.

I cant help but wonder if using gloss then matte makes it too thick a coat and dulls the paintjob.

Vallejo Gloss, Satin, Matt its all good.

Oh, and Gloss varnish with a coat of Dullcote. I tend to use a Wood Varnish like Polyshade etc.

Seal the painted figire wuth plastidip, then matt varnish over that,

Plastidip is the nuts you can throw a figure at a wall and it does not chip, as its a soft plastic shell.

I'm crazy. I use
I lay that on real good, then hit it with some good old fashioned Krylon Matte Coat:

But, let me tell ya. The stuff is tough, and for my nids, the gloss finish is great for a gooey, wet, toxic look on tentacles, claws, and such.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Yea I just use Testor's flat matte lacquer. I'll put a first coat on my guys, and then give it a coat of matte. Then, i''ll go back in and touch up some details and whatever rubbed off. and then if its still rubbing off, usually a second matte fixes that.

Gloss varnishes tend to be less finicky, so I'll use just about anything in a spray can. I think my current can is by Krylon (Testors Gloss is great, but if other brands work, might as well get more bang for my buck, right?). I've tried a few different spray matte varnishes, though, and nothing has worked as well or as consistently as Testors Dullcote.

On an unrelated note, "bear metal" sounds badass.

I think the Purity Seal is a Satin Varnish.
