So it hasn't quite been a year, but I remember all of the rage about the Vindicare. I gave him a try a handful of times, but never really found him to be as-invaluable as the internet would have me believe.

With that said, how are you all finding your Vindicares perform? He doesn't seem to be the must-have in the list that everyone thought he was. In fact, I rarely see him nowadays.

Do you think the Vindicare is worth it?

Absolutely! For 10 more points than a Psyrifle dread. you get a more accurate, harder hitting shooter that gets a great cover save.

Turn 1-pick an enemy infantry model or tank. It is now dead.
Enemy turn 1-vindicare dies.
They're the epitimy of glass cannons.

3 schools of thought

Plan A (the most common) Vindicare takes his chances with a 3+ cover save from enemy shooting, usually dies on turn 1

Plan B Vindicare isn't afraid to go to ground when smacked by multiple instant kill weapons

Plan C Turn 1 vindicare embarks on a Rhino that moves behind another Rhino or pops smoke. Now the vindicare is in a box with AV 11, a 4+ cover save, and fortitude.

Over all the vindicare seems to be a glass cannon worth his points and is neither over powered nor over priced.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

I'll agree with the others, hes a glass cannon, especially when compared to a grey knight dreads with all their fancy gear

One thing people may forget though is his pistol which has all the ammo his rifle has. So in case he needs to move while theres something within pistol range...

He's hard enough to kill to play some decent target priority tricks, and hits like a truck, Definitely a good pick.

I thought Vindicare has 2+ cover save.

What really sucks for the Vindicare is Dawn of War. Having to walk him into position sucks, as he can't fire at long range and it usually takes two turns to get him well positioned in cover. In the mean time the enemy has closed and can base him and kill him outright in an assault.

He is definitely a good choice if you have the points. I had to take him out of my 1750 list as there just wasn't room. But he does add a bit of versatility and punch that you may not have.

My favorite thing I've done with him so far has been to outflank him against an IG army and then come in behind his manitcores and turbo pen them from the rear. Nothing like a turbo pen to the rear to ruin a manitcores day!

Yeah, I've had so many Battlewagons taken out by the Vindicare through their front Armour, and KFF's and Warbosses. I hate him.

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

Yeah and I've lost so many Vindicares to Blood strike missiles, lash of submission, DE jet bikes ughhh it's hard to love him and see him die so often at 145pts.

You don't have to, but it was DoW deployment. Also, Eff Manticores

How do all get your Vindicares killed so fast??
Mine used to stay alive till about turn 3 or so

in Inquisitor, a Space Marine can take a krak grenade, pull out the pin, eat the grenade, throw the pin, and the thrown pin will actually kill a normal man, whereas the Space Marine won't even have indigestion. This has actually happened in a game. Hell, a marine can throw his bolt shells and do more damage than by shooting his boltgun

When people know what Vindis do, they usually want them dead fast

And if you don't get first turn they kill him first or force you to deploy out of LOS where by you have to move him into position, negating a turn of firing, giving your opponent yet another turn of fire. If he could join units, he would be so much better or have relentless for the win.

I love my vindicare, even though it's the only model in my army I can always count on to roll back to back 1s . I still include it in almost every list, often at the expense of a dreadnought.

more frgile than a dreadnought, deadlier and more versatile.

Deploy him away from enemy 24" small arm, force you enemy to put some anti vehicle weapon on him --- that makes your dreads (and other vehicles) a little safer.

If you go second, you can olso deploy him behind a BLOS building, wait until his target comes within 18" of him.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The best way to protect vindicare is to force your enemy to shoot other units I think. For example a deathstar within 12"of him.

I love using Vindicares. Even though they're not really that competitive, they're always fun to have on the table. They freak out opponents in a way that few Space Marine units can.

Despite having to choose between moving and shooting long range, I find him to be very versatile. Outflank can be nice with the pistol and infiltrate helps me set up in good cover and with good shots. Also, some armies don't have easy answers like missiles. I feel like a Dread might be more useful against a lot of different armies, but the things the Vindicare can do kind of put me at ease against certain characters and vehicles.

My Eldar don't really fear him.

"Turbo-penetrator, 4D6-"
"Energy Fields, 1D6."

He's just a regular sniper rifle with AP1 to me.

My Falcon/Prisms/Spinners don't really fear him much either, since Holofields usually mitigate damage, and he won't ever see the Spinners.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

As an Ork player, I see reason to fear then (sniping my nobs), but in practice the poor sod has never had any effect. Whiffed every single roll. I believe he was declared retired, but since a damaging fall, a repair procedure actually resulted in having his gun being moulded to actually be straight, so we shall see if that changes anything ;p
