OK so i am starting a tyranid army, I am gonna buy my stuff off of Miniwargaming.com (25% off sale) So far i think i am gonna get: Battleforce, 3 hive gaurd, 1 geanstealer squad and whatever you else guys say

So i have a few questions, whats better, Termagaunts or Hormagaunts? What else should i get, say anything no matter how much it costs I already have a Codex, Trygon and carnifex. It would be really usefull if someone threw a list at me

Thank you for your help!

If you're running Tervigons (which, considering upcoming releases, I assume you will be), Termagants are better. They synergise well with the Tervigon (because they were designed this way), allowing you to give your Tervigon Toxin Sacs and Adrenal Glands which confers them to all Termagant squads with a model within 6". I am, however, a huge fan of Hromagaunts, but they're pretty inferior to Tervigon buffed Termagants.

It's also worth testing units in the codex against people in your local meta. There's units that get trashed because they don't work in the tournament meta but might work well for you at your FLGS, depending on what people generally run. There's a few stinkers to outright avoid though - Pyrovores, Rippers, Sky Slashers and Old One Eye are up there. Rippers, since you get them for free with a few boxes, make good objectives, in any case. Make the bases up, run them as objectives, and hope they get a bit better in the next book.

Both kinds of gaunts are useful. Tervigons help make more shooty gaunts, hormagaunts are cheap hordes that will flood the field, drawing fire.

Two battleforces is an excellent purchase. Hive guard are good, genestealer squads need to be large otherwise they won't hit their targets hard enough.

Hormagaunts need adrenal glands. If you have the points to spare, poison is fine, but you need adrenal glands on the hormagaunts, always.

As mentioned, just about everything in the codex is good, except the pyrovores and a few other things. Rippers are good units to use to hold objectives though, since the rest of your army is basically running towards the enemy trying to deliver a tyranid high five.

Can i convert my warriors to hive guard?

IM gonna get
2 batteforce: 202
2 hiveguard: 44
greenstuff: 16
Magnets: 16

Is this good? I already have a trygon and a fex which will be converted to a tervigon. Should i convert my warriors to hive guard or something else? Later i will be able to spend atleast 200$ more on nids. What should i get then?

Thank you for your time,

-Benj

Swarms can't hold objectives. I think they can contest them, but they can't hold them.

Below are some personal nuggets of info you may or may not find useful. I've been playing my nids casually for about 3-4 years now and though i'm no expert all of this info comes from lessons learned the hard way.

I have around 40 Ripper bases each with 3 Rippers and scenic base details, took me a helluva lot of work/time/money to get them together. I used them to quite good effect last edition. They utterly stink now, avoid them as a previous poster said.

Convert your Warriors into Hiveguard as you intend. I use a couple of Warriors armed with Venom Cannons that can be "counts-as" Hiveguard or the actual WYSIWYG. Just make sure you make opponents aware of what's what at the start of a game.

Get some Zoanthropes, excellent tankbusters and SM killers. Just make sure you use 2-3 as one is too easily popped.

If you end up using lots of MC get 2 Venomthropes that you can spread out and hide behind your Carnifexes/Tervigons etc. This grants the MC a 5+ cover save and the Venomthrope often gets a 4+ (if he can be seen at all).

Outflanking squads of Genestealers work wonders when opponents set up Devestator squads and the likes. Try and buy a Broodlord with bigger squads (always give him the Scything Talons for 2pts....).

Doom of Malan'tai+Pod works brilliantly against massed infantry. Just make sure they are on foot and not in vehicles as a FAQ update stopped the DoM effecting models in transports (stupid!).

Don't waste your time with Lictors. Ever. They are worthless this edition.

Tervigons and spawning Gaunts seems to be the theme this edition. Buying two cheap troop choices and having the tervi's spawn more during the game is a popular choice as it lets you use points to buy more fun stuff.

Hive Tyrant with Paroxsysm power is wickedly effective. Give him a guard or two to help him survive.

Specialize Warriors, make them either focused on CC or ranged attacks i.e. CC = Lashwhips+Bonesword+Glands+Toxin+Scything Talons and ranged = Deathspitter spam (sit in cover or on objective).

Carnifex's are broken this edition, but still fun to use (and they are wicked models). "Screamer Killer's" in Pods are very nice shock troops/surprise attack/decoys. (Carnifex+2xScything Talons+Bioplasma+Pod)

Good luck!

But yeah, JaxnFury's advice is all good. There's nothing I can really add to it. Just do what he says and you'll prob be okay.

I'll agree that lictors are generally a bad idea, but against eldar taking the deathleaper is hilarious!!!

What's the eldrad? you're LD7?? and you roll 4d6 (dropping lowest) on psychic tests when in shadows?!?!?!

HA!!!!

That would be a good combo if it was a bit more manageable getting Eldrad into Shadows range. As it is, he can safely hide behind the army, far out of each of Shadows 12" range.
