I just thought this would be a good topic. lets see what youve got

Me first

I was in my local GW and saw someone charge 5 Elryan Reavers into a block of 20 clanrats. frontal charge. Needless to say they didnt last .

2 things, both MY move, and they were stupid.

I charged a 5 man GK termie squad into a 20 man squad of Witch-hunter viscerator's. mistake, mistake, mistake. they were annihilated.

second one, was I ran Brother Captain Stern, with a 6 termie retinue, on deep strike, completely deviated off the board. all in total, 250 points GONE. in a 1K point game. I was done. BUT, like a good sport, I carried on the game, but I had no chance of winning.

(I should also mention this was about 8 years ago)

The worst tactical mistake I saw I was the one doing it. Several (and I mean several) years ago at a tourney at our store I was playing a guy that had Salamader Marines (I think). I had last go and had done enough damage to him to have the game won, but I wanted to make sure and moved a couple of things up 'just to make sure'.

I had forgotten that his army at the time had that special rule where he could extend the game by a turn if he wanted. He did so and was able to shoot and charge those units I moved up killing them.

Needless to say I went from winning to losing because I moved 2 units up to try and get a few 'extra' points.

The worst I have made was not putting my liche priest in a unit. It was my first game of WHFB, and although my opponent was being nice and helping me learn, he had to teach me a rough lesson on like turn 2. Needless to say I never do that ever again.

Worst I have seen personally, was while playing a 2v2 game. I was playing mech guard, but more of an anti infantry list, with my buddies orks. He had an ork weirdboy who teleported a unit back behind one of the other teams commander. The player on his next turn turned everything around to deal with it. Our next turn his weirdboy, by luck, was able to teleport again. I moved some tanks into a spot where they had cover from the antivehicle stuff, but still managed to cover the objective in the center of the table. Effectively ending the game on turn 2 or 3. Had he not turned everything around, he had a bike squad that would have torn through my vehicles.

Guy mishapped his 600 point Pally Squad.

I also saw someone taking cover from a JOTWW priest. Foolish boy...

TBF, that wasn't a tactical mistake, just a very very unfortunate dice roll. Not that I complained...

Not seen, I did!

I moved a Las-sentinal squadron protecting the flank of my CCS and a Blob that was stradling two objectives to take Sideshots at a weaponless Hammerhead that really wasn't doing anything, when the only thing that could stop me from winning the game was an as yet unarrived outflanking Kroot squad carnivore squad. I had otherwise de-toothed his force and was pushing for the far objectives to put myself clear.

Sure enough I move off, Kroot arrive in the last couple of turns and pull the blob off the objectives for a Tau win 1-0.

This isnt so much as a one time thing but its one thing that has happened multiple times and goes to prove that hope in humanity is a sad waste of time. Ive had multiple opponents (on multiple occasions) deepstrike a unit within 12 inches of my battle wagon with Thraka and 15 Burnas. Needless to say, that unit goes away fast. Ive even played people that ive done it to before and they continue to make the same mistake.

I have done that ... and most of the time he gives more then he gets.

I charged my 2 defiler into a group of Th/SS Termies ... that new BA Dreadnaught ... and another normal dread.
And they killed all but 2 termies ... both dreads ... and there was something else in their i forgot.

This was against me:
this guy frontal charged a 8-man squad of bretonnian Knight of the realm with paladin (combat-type hero character) in the front rank, with 5 Elryan Reavers. didn't last till the end of the phase.

A buddy of mine charged 2 tactical squads of marines without powerfists or meltabombs into an ironclad dreadnaught. I walked over to the table at about the time he realized he'd tied up 20ish marines all game. I enjoyed the reaction.

Kid deploys a tac squad with his captain in it directly across the board in clear line of sight, tight parade formation, out of cover of a leman russ. 1st turn, the battle cannon got 11 kills. I wanted to slap the kid for not using that pink thing in his skull.

Way back 4th edition, I charged a 10 man squad of Howling Banshees and DoomSeer with my 5 man squad of GK....

Yea that didn't go too well (in my defense it was like my 3rd or 4th game ever).

I charged Abbadon with a unit of 8 Rough Riders. I was sure that I would knock the chaos player (who at this point had enjoyed rampaging through my guardsmen) down a few notches. It didn't end well.

I once charged my BA Librarian with attached Death Guard squad into the Nightbringer. I bumped the Libby to S10, and was able to ID the sorry excuse for a star-god (was an epistolary libby), and he retaliated by blowing up the death company in his explosive throes. Needless to say, the Libby looked around when the smoke cleared (he had a storm shield) and wondered where everybody went.

I have lost a game because I moved my own Troops too far away from my home objective and didn't realize it until it was too late.

A guy immobilized almost all his ba tanks on the front stuff a cratered. That let me pick him to pieces since all his pts were in his vehicles.

Couple of opponents in Warmachine who would repeatedly lead their army with their caster.

Someone sent their Nightbringer (old Cron codex) charging out into the front of my firebase...of Kabalites with splinter cannons.

This isnt 100% tactical mistake but... a challenge towards my own luck.

I have half of my army destroyed from deepstriking ( mishap )

It was 1 unit, and I was like hmm..... so be it, the rest cant be ALL MISHAPS.

Then you see my opponents face when every other deepstrikeable units suffered mishap.

I saw someone charge Mephiston with a vanilla Dreadnought. I even stopped him to explain how ludicrous that was, but he did it anyway.

Guy walks his captain into a booby-trapped building (he knew it was trapped), who dies.

I got engaged the day after I turned 18. Oh wait you ment warhammer wise?

The only game I have lost all year has been to a temporary mental breakdown.

I play Deathwing and for some reason decided to DWA the whole army (bringing 3 in first turn and 3 more to follow later). I was playing against Chaos Space Marines (with tons of squads of Berzerkers).

All of my deepstrikes were right in target. About six inches from a berzerker squad each. Shooting failed to kill much and next turn I was out three squads of Deathwing due to the overwhelming attacks of Berzerkers.

I then proceeded to deep strike the rest of the guys in the same manner. I was tabled by turn 4.

Not my wisest move ever.

One day I decided to Deep Strike the Sanguinor, alone, in front of a full-strength (that's 30 models) squad of Termagants. Because, you know,what's the worst that 30 shots and 60 attacks could do to a T4 model?

My friend charged my Dark Elf Spearman block with his Stegadon, giving me the chance to flank-charge him with my Cold One riders. Unfortunately, I failed my stupidity test, and my Spearmen broke. I guess it might have been more of a calculated risk than a blunder

When the dice bite you, that's not a tactical mistake. That's just bad luck.

I can think of two offhand. Both times I set a trap and the other guy charged right into it. In both cases I played Dark Elves.

First one, I had the General's bunker of Spearmen across from a unit of Orcs; I had my Cauldron on one side and 10 Witches on the other. He had 20 gobbo archers on the Witch side, and the Black Orks on his other side had been chased off by Mindrazored Witches. I moved the Cauldron up 5" into easy charge range of the Orcs and pivoted it toward the side about 40 degrees. The Witches marched up and wheeled 45 degrees to put the Cauldron just barely in their front arc.

He charged the Cauldron, and when he closed the door, he handed my Spearmen a flank charge and my Witches a rear charge. The gobbos only shot three Witches, the Orcs did two wounds to the Cauldron and it held (I did about 4 wounds to the unit, bad rolls). He reformed to face the Spears, I charged in with both units, the Witches devastated his ranks and then he broke. Witches ran down the unit while the Spearmen reformed to go after the gobbos next turn. He conceeded at that point.

Second one, I moved a unit of Harpies in front of a 18-strong unit of knights with charcters, 9" away and angled so that if he charged, he was gonna find his ability to turn back in severely hampered by his unit's sheer length and the proximity of the table edge, which would give me a turn or two extra fire to trim it down to a managable size, and possibly enable me to prevent his charging. Back toward the center was my unit of 20 Repeater Crossbows with L1 Fire sorceress (Spearmen bunker for L4 Shadow Sorceress was just beyond them).

He charged the Harpies, figuring he would either catch them and kill them, or chase them clear off the board. Well, the Harpies were a bit late in running, so he ran them down handily... then swore as he realized the positon he had left himself in. I wheeled the RXBs around to flank him, Withered him down to T1, and between a Fireball and 40 RXB shots I removed 5 knights. This sort of worked for him, because it shortened his unit enough that he could potentially keep going straight and get from in front of the RXBs to maneuver back in later in the game; OR reform and face the RXBs head-on for a charge next turn... which is the option he chose. Apparently he didn't realize that DE RXBs have the same statline as all our other core infantry; they actually can fight their way out of a paper bag. And his reform and move had left him 8" away... I charged in straightaway. That the L4 got a Mindrazor on them was just the icing on the cake; if the Brets don't get the charge, they have a really hard time doing damage. It took two turns, but I broke them and ran them off the board. 350 points of RXB and Sorceress got the drop on something like 8-900 points of Brets. Not bad if I do say so myself!

Me, after the Sterngaurd and pod have been converted to mollten goo: "Told ya"

I had my 1st company I disperised them. Then a Tyranid hive force came in. Thats 540 gaunts, and 200 warriors. (They had replacements.) So I lost every single member of my Veteran forces and I withdrew from the game as that was my main force and I couldn't do much with a scout squad and an honor squad.
100 veterans dead due to poor placement!
