But in all seriousness, I'm curious: Where all have we injured ourselves with a hobby knife while amputating, shaving, or otherwise slicing up our little army guys? By all means, share any stories you have of particularly brutal war wounds.

really only stabbed myself in the fingers and knuckles. the sad part is that the majority of the times its to check how sharp the knife is >_>

Took a small chunk off my thumb the other day

Side of my index finger, because I use my left thumb to push the blade back and forth and sometimes I push down too much ,

Fingers mostly. I'm interested to hear how anyone would injure themselves in the pelvis with a hobby knife....

Huh. Just today I sliced my finger. Deeper than usual, too. I hope that Future Jim will remember that he has cut-resistant gloves now that Present Jim forgot to bloody wear them...

Earlier yesterday, while playing Hordes, I mistakenly smacked my hobby knife off the table, and tried to catch it... I managed to push the hobby knife blade deep into the right side of my torso with my arm as I tried to catch it.

Fun times, self stabbing and all....

I slice the tip of my left thumb all the time.


A cousin of mine managed to literally nail his hand to the table with his hobby knife. True story.

Side of the foot. Sat on the floor, handle of the knife against the coffee table, I twist around and my foot presses on the blade. One thing was gonna give way, and it wasnt the table leg...

Fingers, thumb and top of my foot.

Foot was because the x-acto rolled off my desk and speared into the top of my foot before I could move it aside.

Missed everything vital. Went in about an inch. Tip of blade to ferrule. Removed it, cleaned it up and put a sticky plaster on it. Healed up within a week.

Faint scar still visible.

Be careful with that. My father had to have several surgeries to fix a tendon that got sliced up.

I have only ever cut my thumb. My dad, however, lost an eye when he was young, so take care!

Every time i see someone using a blade, they're always cutting towards their fingers and they always tell me "don't do it this way, it's dangerous".

I think I've figured out the problem.

Since I am a graphic designer, and have been since before computers became huge, I have been using an exacto knife for more than half my life. Suprisingly, however, I have cut myself (that is to say, drawn blood) only about 3-4 times in almost twenty years (once very recent;y). The two worst blade injuries I ever got were from chopping spinach (and the end of my thumb), and the other thumb with a shaving razor blade. But with exacto knife, I almost never have problems

I've done some really dumb stuff with my hobby knives. Heck, just two days ago I cut up my finger, was stupid to try and do some modelling while being sick, a coughing fit caused me to miscut!

I've regularly nicked my fingers, occasionally my palm, or a slip and the forearm. A couple of back ones here and there, mostly slipping and stabbing myself in the finger, or accidently drilling through my thumb with the pin drill....

Once had a blade break when I slipped and it pinged up into my neck, left a nice ol' cut on there.

Friend of mine once did the same (blade snapped with he slipped) and it pinged off his glasses. Was lucky it left a gash in the lense about a half mm deep and a couple of cm long. Imagine what would have happened if he wasn't one of us optically challenged?

I had the same thing happen with the breaking blade, Ovion, only it caught me in the chin. I think my favorite injury happened last week while watching TV and removing mold lines form my minis. I was scraping stuff away, and glanced up. A second later I feel this blinding pain, and look down to realize I've mistaken my middle finger for the mini, and scraped a strip of skin off.

Yeah, I do the dummy thing and cut toward myself a lot, which results in a lot of injuries. Tragically, I get the best control of the knife that way, so it becomes a choice between good looking models or intact fingers.

I was cutting apart some badly glued eBay'd gobbos with my hobby knife.

I was holding down the models' bases with my left hand whilst I cut with my right.

Anyway, I was done with one model and I look down and notice a huge amount of blood literally flooding out of one of my fingers. I'd managed to, when having a real problem getting an arm off, cut it and the knife fly down into the fingernail, slice that in half, and rather severely mess up the underneath...

Took ages to heal and was most unsightly...

I was dumb enough to try clean my razor with my thumb... moving it *along* the blades.

I really think you should have a other option.....

Slice my fingers now and then. Dropped a knife off the table and into my thigh. Bled nicely. Patched it up and moved on.

My poor thumbs feel the wrath of the hobby knife.

Scars on the outside of my left thumb, both index fingers, and I almost cut off the tip of my index finger once (half hanging off). Dropped the knife on my legs and feet once or twice. The foot one bounced first, so less damage from momentum.

I think I might play it safe and wear some goggles when I'm using a knife, now.

Don't really want to lose an eye...

I've sliced into my thumb more times than I'm comfortable with.

My foot. A Knife got under my desk. Got. that was bad. Blood everywhere as i hopped around my house with a bleeding foot screaming like the world is ending. And my mom was there so she screamed too.

When I was young and just getting into modelling I cut myself because I wanted to know how sharp the knife was but didn't know how to test that. I was a dumb child.

The only "major" one I have had was when I was starting the hobby in my early 20's and I was stupid enough to try to cut of some models from a sprue with my hobby knife in bed. Against my thigh. Blade went in about 2 cm, small scar is still visible. Apart from that, only the occasional nick on the fingers but pretty rarely.

FIngers and thumbs numerous tiimes, and once I was getting some bits of sprue off of some models with a cardboard box lid on my lap and the blade slipped, went straight through and stuck into my leg. It was only there for a split second, and only caused a little cut, but it bled for quite awhile.

Kind of surprised by the large number of leg injuries. I've never cut myself there, although I injure myself so frequently a casual observer might think my Assault Salamanders were intended to be Khorne Berserkers. Hey-O! Anyone? Anyone?

Anyhoo...I should start a poll at a later juncture to find out how often people cut away from them and how often they cut "the wrong way." I'd be interested.
