Subject: Games Workshop's thin and thick plastic and super glue equivalents?
|

Hi guys.
This thread is about what you think about the new Games Workshop's glue and what do you prefer, your own equivalent or Games Workshop's own?
Mine would be;
Thin plastic glue- Revell’s plastic glue this is because of personal use that it sucks sticking large models together but is excellent for infantry. This comes in tow different bottles of 12.5ml or 25ml.
Thick plastic glue-Either the Army Painter’s plastic glue because its thick consistency is very good for scratch building, normal infantry and large models alike. The other would be your normal Polly Cement (proper name for plastic glue).
Thin super glue-Javis super glue which is great value for money and you can buy in either 20ml or 50ml bottles, but I have yet to try it however, I have heard good things about it and will be the next glue that I buy.
Thick super glue-To be honest Games Workshop, are really ripping you off with the tick super glue because ordinary super glue will work so I have decided to leave this equivalent open.
Sorry for pictures not working.

Either Zzap or Roket for superglue.
The GW stuff has the characteristics of the cheaper varieties but with an expensive price tag.

True but I have bought GW super gule and have tried plastic gule in the past and the super gule is good but expensive the plastic gule never works.

Anything but the GW product. Generally, I prefer superglue gels because they don't run all over the model, but most brands work fine.

Gels are indeed a thick super glue, and they're all I use these days regardless of material.
Loctite gets my vote.

GW tools and glue are always going to be a ripoff. You can get pretty much the same quality elsewhere but without the big markup.
I have Humbrol poly cement* and some random brand of superglue I can't remember (definitely not GW)

So they are now my metal cutters! But the GW scaple is a rip-off £8 and you don't get any spare blades (or only like two more blades) whilst I bought a 16 peice knife set from Rolson for eithern £10or £12 which has lasted me about 4 years nearly and had 2 different sized handels and 8 blades per knife, a hole puncher like thing and some twissers but only now do I need a new set! Added anouther optsion for the poll.

Testor's Model Master Plastic Cement for plastic models:
Scotch Superglue Gel for detailed work:
Walmart brand cheap-o superglue for everything else. You get four 0.11oz tubes for $1.
Can't find a picture, but it's absurdly cheap.
Also, I use standard Elmer's White Glue for terrain.

I personally use Zap-a-Gap for my CA (superglue). I remember when GW used to sell that stuff in their stores...ahh the good old days.
I hate plastic glue and only use it with the greatest reluctence on the largest plastic models ( I have a scratch build titan that I used it on, other then that it's CA all the way).
As for Devlan Mud you can buy it as W&N burnt umbra in a larger bottle for cheaper then the pot of DM.
If it says GW or Citadel it's a waste of money, you can buy it cheaper somewhere else. (this does include FC models also)

I wouldn't even bother looking at GW glues. Too much more expensive and not as high quality and specialized as better quality glues.
The list should really include BSI glue for superglue. Many modelers are using it and probably don't know, since BSI is sold in most model stores in the USA. The BSI in very small letters on the back and they leave the front clear for the store to stamp their own label on.

Look familiar?
It's avaialble in as wide or wider variety of formlations than any other brand and is among the least expensive super glues.
I use the watery Instacure for reinforcing existing joints, the not quite so watter Instacure+ for most uses and the very thick Maxicure for joining irregular surfaces.
I also really like Gorrilla Ruberized superglue for heavy metal limbs and other parts in danger of coming loose.
For plastic glue, I love Plastruct " Plastic Weld". It's not even a gluey glue, just pure liquid plastic solvent with a brush applicator for super accurate application. Smells bad, but is the best performing plastic glue I've used, and I've used them all. Not very expensive either.

I still haven't found clippers as good as theirs for models anywhere else. Though I only really looked around hardware stores and at my FLGS. No other clippers I've found or used are quite as narrow at the tip, which lets you really get into some of the tighter sprue joins (I swear, some of them have been about 1mm between the part and the sprue, I had huge issues with this with the Skyshield platform).
Glue, I use Revell Contaca plastic glue and any cheap superglue I see. GW's superglue was worse than the $2 for 10 tubes I find at discount stores, and Revell Contaca is pretty much the best plastic glue ever.

BSI is great glue. I order it a gross at a time. Cases of 144 bottles don't last a month. They make many different types, all high quality. 1 oz sells for 4.99, vs 1/6th oz from GW for 6.60, I'm sure you can do the math.) For plastics I stock Testers. Used to sell quite a bit of GF9, but the BSI glues are better quality and cheaper. Automatically Appended Next Post: FabricatorGeneralMike wrote: Mines been repackaged with "P.M. They do custom labels for stores, another bonus. All my glue has my shop's name on it.
