So, i've been listening to the "Walk and Talks" on miniwargaming.com and in a few of them Matt mentions he's heard rumors the Tau getting kicked to the curb:

Yea, thats what I had figured as well. But stranger things have happened, especially as far as GW is concerned.

Seems to me that Tau still sell. I always do well when selling off big lots of them.

@OP Your problem is that you're listening to anything MWG has to say.

They're not in the know at all with rumors and haven't predicted anything properly from what I've seen.

GW has stated to their credit that no current armys are going to be discontinued.. also if anything they would have squatted SOB

I think axing any armies right now especially with a new edition coming out would be a horrible mistake and I think GW execs see that one. The Tau have really made it into most recent books in the fluff so the army going away would make people pissed.

They won't squat them, but there's nothing stopping GW from pulling a dark eldar on them and throwing them into a damp basement for a decade.

Sounds like BS designed to draw in an ad-revenue generating audience to me. Blood of Kittens does it all the time.

They may not get new models, and they may only get a codex update in WD or a website PDF, but they won't be removed from the game.

If anything, they need to bring kroot back with a current edition list even if only in a WD codex.

AFAIK, Tau are more popular that Necrons.

They fill a niche in appealing to people who want thier sci-fi with out the darkness of the the grim-dark causing their entire army to be compelled to put skulls oneverything.

A bit of hyperbole granted but seriously it's why i picked them up for my first army before going 180 on the grim dark and picking up BT for my second.
I highly doubt they'll be squated.

But then again I was excited about the jump to resin making my modeling easier and more afordable....

Which of course doesn't mean that it CAN'T happen, but odds are miniscule.

I think this depends on what scale would Tau “get the boot”. Whilst I agree that Tau getting “Squatted” is highly unlikely (then again this is GW), there is the possibility that Tau could get the "SoB treatment" being a discontinued/scaled back miniatures line and a WD codex (which is more or less very close to being “Squatted”).

I tried to listen to one of the broadcasts from miniwargaming but had to stop five minutes in because I couldn't stand him. He sounded arrogant and that we should bow to his opinions on the hobby. It was like fingernails on a blackboard.

They're not getting the boot in the foreseeable future, GW have too much invested in them to just drop the line without a good reason and a good way to make back all the money that would be wasted by dropping them. Not to mention with the new paint line basically kicking this rumor in the face and FW pushing it down the stairs.

Tau used to be the second best selling army behind SPace Marines at their peak, from what I have been told.

This is not true.

They still take crap about Squats, which they dropped more than a decade ago. No way this is true.

If they did drop them then they would have all these people who put thousands into their army to have it now useless.

It is unlikely but not unthinkable. Which in itself is disturbing.
