Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions
|
I was told a while ago when I started playing 5th ed, that troops that were under 25 percent strength could not hold objectives, and it came up in a tournament where the player I was playing against had to run another unit over to his home objective while he muttered about the unit of 5 down to 1 being to small to hold it (insert cursing), and that player has a VERY solid grasp of the rules so I didn't question it as it confirmed what I was told earlier. Long story long, I'm writting up a battle report and don't want to be wrong in writting so, is it and actual rule that troops uner 50 percent no longer count as scoring?

Prepare yourselves for the onslaught men. The enemy is waiting, but your Officers are courageous and your bayonettes sharp! I have at my disposal an entire army of Muskokans, tens of thousands of armour and artillery supporting millions upon tens of millions of the Imperium's finest fighting men with courage in their bellies, fire in their hearts and lasguns in their hands. Emperor show mercy to mine enemies, for as sure as the Imperium is vast, I will not!

I don't have the BRB in front of me, but I'm about 99% sure that it doesn't matter how many models are left in the squad, 1 lonely scout should be able to take an objective, if he's all that's left.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies. |

There is no such restriction. Page 90, BRB, explains what a scoring unit can and can not be.

That might have been a rule from a previous edition.
Pretty sure a single survivor from a squad can hold, doesnt matter how many of his buddies died.

In 3rd edition a unit had to be over half its starting strength to hold an objective/quadrant. So out of a 5 man squad you'd need 3 guys left, or out of a 10 man squad you'd need at least 6.
In 4th they changed it to at or over half. So a 5 man squad would still need to have 3 left alive, but a 10 man squad would need 5 or more.
In 5th the number of models left are irrelevant, as long as the unit's still alive and not fleeing (fleeing units are removed from the table before you check for victory conditions). One model left alive can still hold.
In Warhammer Fantasy, a unit under 25% of its starting strength can't Rally.

Mann - not correct on the last point. 8th edition allows any unit to rally, but below 25% only on a double 1
