Welcome to the first of a monthly series of Infinity threads.

This thread is not intended to replace the Infinity News & Rumour thread, it is designed to compliment it. Each month I hope to create a new thread with images of the coming month's models so we can discuss the best in-game uses for the models, rather than the figures themselves. The sort of things I would like to see discussed here are:

1) Showcase lists that utilize the releases to best effect
2) Tactics for using the releases this month
3) Tactics for countering the releases this month

The aim is to provide people with ideas on how to use and abuse these new units as I regularly see posts in the DCM area of "I love XXX unit that's coming out this month... what sort of list does it work nicely in". I figured that this would be a great ongoing series that could eventually form the basis of an extensive set of Infinity tactics articles to help teach Infinity to the masses.

To get us started, the latest batch of models to be announced are...

Merovingian Starter Pack. Ariadna.

Sun Tze v.2 Yu Jing

Shasvastii Gwailos with Spitfire Combined Army

Hafza unit with Spitfire Haqqislam

Druze Shock Team Mercenaries

When creating lists, please use the Devil Team Army Builder and use the web output.

To get us rolling, who wants to create us a nice little 150 point Merovingian list that uses the starter set to good effect?

Are Mercs usable as their own list, or are they pure mercs in Infinity?

Also, that Sun Tze model is badass.

Only Mercenaries included in Sectorial Armies are legal in Tournaments. Use the army builder on the main Infinity site to see which Mercenaries can be taken in which Sectorials.

Druze, for example, are popular in the Qapu Khalqi Haqqislam Sectorial because they are Availability 4 there. They can also be used as a Link Team in that Sectorial.

Other uses of Mercenaries are not allowed in Tournaments. That doesn't stop you from using the rule I posted below.

http://infinitythegame.wikispot.org/Availability%28AVA%29?action=show&redirect=Mercenary+Availability

"2.Mercenary Availability. Mercenary forces allow a player to build a unique Mercenary Company rather than a regular army from a single faction (such as PanOceania or Ariadna). Mercenary Companies allow the enrolment of troops from up to three different factions to build a customized force. Troop Availability is significantly reduced in mercenary armies: Mercenary Availability is always half of the value (Rounded down) of a units’ General Availability. Troops with Total Availability have a Mercenary Availability of 4. Troops with General Availability 1 have a Mercenary Availability of 0. When building a mercenary company, a mercenary of General Availability 1 may be enrolled for every 200 points of an army."

Meh, thanks, but no thanks; I would rather play Mercenaries, not several armies combined into a merc army (Warmachine, for example; I would much rather play Steelheads than Man o Wars coupled with Tempest Knights). Looks like it's not ment to be in Infinity.

Thanks to you for posted that, though, and sorry for dragging the thread OT almost immediately

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Is there any way of getting a reasonably hard hitting metro heavy army? I quite like the idea of a force of essentially armed citizens defending themselves against attack... maybe with a couple of para/SAS type troops who have been dropped off to help out

EDIT: I forgot to include a 112 Emergency Services in the list I posted.

Yes. It's very possible to make a list that's Metro-heavy and hard hitting. You can make a Link Team of 5 Metros with a HMG. They will hit hard but even light hits will take them out. They're very fragile. However, they are very inexpensive, and will also allow for other units, like Para Commandos with any weapons you'd want in the list. Chasseurs are awesome Merovingian units as well. Most Merovingian units take at least one, with the flamethrower. You can also take up to three 112 Emergency Services in a Merovingian list, which is interesting.

You can make a Metros Link Team in a low point list, or a high point one.

At 150 points, you can link these five Metros and have them do their thing. You'll also have enough Orders for the Para Commando to start off the table. This also uses every model from the Merovingian box that just came out. It'd be a fun list to play:

3 Metros with Rifles
1 Metro with Rifle and Light Grenade Launcher
1 Metro with HMG (gonna do most of the shooting in the active turn)
Para-Commando HMG
Zouave Rifle, D.E.P.
Moblot Lieutenant, Rifle, Light Shotgun
112 Emergency Services (It's called 112, You won't have to buy 112 of them)

149 Points, 3 SWC

If you go with a lot of Metros and have a high points game, like 250-300 (300 being the absolute max I play), you might have two combat groups. But you want to keep your two combat groups at seven orders on the table at the beginning of the game at the very least.

Cool, I might have to see about picking up that list at some point

Cheers!

Important edit: I originally forgot to include the 112 Emergency Services. There isn't a Metro HMG model yet but to use the list I provided you gotta buy an extra Metro, which come in blisters of two anyway. I suggest buying the Metros blister and proxing the HMG until one comes out. It's pretty nice to have a playable list with only three purchases.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Absolutely amazing releases this month. Think the first time I may have to buy 2 box sets in a single month! Have been thinking of the Merovingians for a while and glad they have released a set, quite lovely models!

I love that Sun Tzu model, i'm going to buy it and do some small conversions to make him into a Spyrer/Rogue Trader, a character for my Necromunda gang.

The Merovingian Starter Pack has some really nice options. As Whale said, you can buy one or two more models and have a really nice force without spending loads of money.
