I was browsing the games workshop website and other UK sellers following being impressed at the effectiveness of the thunderfire cannon in a number of games at the tournament I went to last weekend and noticed that all of them had them out of stock. The games workshop site says the model is 'no longer available' - does that mean we're finally going to see a finecast version of pretty much the only model most people would be glad to see in something other than metal?

See the link below to check for yourself. The model doesn't appear for sale on several online stores.

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440276a&prodId=prod1560028

I hope this is true, as I really want to get one or two and would be glad not to have to deal with building the metal one.

Maybe it's an entry error? There's a lot of product that are currently out of stock or GW special-order only. Like half the Tau army.

You have 3 metal ones or you just ordered 3 new ones? I'm not following you.

Also, it's finecast. "Failcast" and other cute names for it were never funny.

some might think I'm crazy for this but I was actually waiting for that to happen before buying one. That beast just isn't practical in metal, I want it in resin, finecast or otherwise. of course the obligatory price rise will probably hurt.

you're right, they're not funny. they're true. the sad part about it is no one is boycotting the sale of finecast products. so GW has no incentive to correct the issues.

gotta hit em where it hurts people.

Rimmy, you'll never catch me defending GW's poor quality control on finecast. It is an issue.

However, "Failcast" and other names are lame and unfunny. I like sarcasm, but be funny or STFU.

This is actually one kit which might be a good fit for finecast. I hated putting my metal one together.

@Kronk,
Maybe telling someone to STFU because you don't like their use of failcast isn't the best thing huh? If he wants to call it failcast what is it to you? And frankly telling someont to STFU is pretty immature.

Meh. I never claimed to be mature.

However, Failcast, finecost and other names are lame and unoriginal, your point was made without the rest... please remember rule#1 Kronk.

This has happened on occasion for awhile and not just to the TFC but other metal models that come back remaining metal, so it might just mean they need to cast some more. I have been waiting to get this in finecast personally and preferably the longer the wait the better the final product. The metal TFC is a horrible model to build and keep from having issues on the table.

Finally. That thing was a PITA to build in metal.

I can't wait to have it be Finecast. So much easier to modify/build.

TBH I dont see a problem with finecase. In the time that I've bought things that are finecast I've only had one issue and GW was quick to help me replace it.

While yes it there are problems with the product, GW also knows this so they always help replace it ATMK. Heck I've even gotten bubble issues in some of my FW items and they are happy to help replace it also.

Honestly, I've been eyeing the Rapier Laser Destroyer to use as a Thunderfire cannon. I've heard too many horror stories about the metal Thunderfire Cannon.

The thunder fire cannon in metal was cack, when I worked for GW I put probably dozens of the sods together for customers as it almost always needed heavy cutting of the breach block.

Unfortunately I see the failcast (just for you kronk ;-p) being cack for a whole bunch of other reasons

I love my metal thunder fire cannon. However It cost me a cordless dremel battery to assemble. ( burned one out drilling the back/breach part). Think it wrecked a steel cutting bit too. Must have been tempered in the holy ointments of the machine god. Now that it will be offered in the far too frequently failed finecast, ( that better kronk?) I'll probably buy one or two more.

Its cheaper too, I think the price of the finecast thunderfire cannon will be more expensive than the metal one.
Who would have thought there would be a time where the forgeworld counterpart is cheaper than the GW one

see I think this is the crux of your problem here. "funny" is extremely relative. and I don't think people have taken to the terms because they're trying to be funny.

it is in and of its-self derogatory. its just suppossed to be how people feel about a particular issue, not an attempt to amuse you or anyone else.

I would say relax about it. its not a big deal. people express themselves as they need to.

I bought this model because I thought it was really cool, one of my first models and I dont even play Space Marines. I was so disappointed in this model, it's an abysmal piece of poo to put together. I bought mine about 3 years ago but never put it together, ended up selling the techmarine to try and get some of my money back. The cannon itself is just so badly made it was pretty much impossible to put together correctly.

Still love the model but it's just so poorly made, perhaps I got a bad cast, no matter the case I can't get a replacement because I've sold the techmarine and the model is primed.

I keep seeing everyone post they had trouble putting it together, yet all I needed was a pair of pliers and to cut a bit of the metal with my knife and they went together just fine, all 3 of my cannons. Maybe I got a good batch?

That said, I can't wait to see the cracks in the armor that failcast will incur. The way the thunderfire cannon is shaped and everything just begs for problems in the production process.

I have to admit, I was looking to buy the metal model and didn't realize it was such a PITA (without turkey apparently). I'll wait for the Finecast and patch it up as need be.

Thats my problem with the move to finecast. Probably a 25% price hike 'just cause'. I would prefer a resin or plastic one, but will have to work hard to justify the price.

I've noticed how people with 2000+ posts can get away with being abusive towards forum members, whereas everyone else gets warned/banned.

This is especially true with members who donate - they are basically untouchable, because the trigger happy Mods can't be seen to be banning people who basically help prop up the site and keep them their jobs. Case study above. Quite amusing.

I couldn't see it in plastic unless they made it a combination kit with some other new heavy weapon. I remember a rumor shortly after the codex release that someone saw a WIP plastic kit for a Thunderfire, but I can't recall who. I guess it's a possibility, and who knows if DA will get some special heavy weapon on a similar carriage.
