Im currently painting, and have been painting for a very long time a huge ork army. i have tried various ways of painting to releave the boredom but as yet the green tide isnt becoming close to complete. mixing squads of different minis, doing the same, block painting the same colour across all the same, different, even painting 1 at a time. But im starting to lose hope...

I'm wondering my fellows of the green brush. How do you cope with the boredom? Can anyone advise me?

I have a rather large unpainted whf orc army too.. :(

One word: dip

I gotta say, army painter sprays plus midtone and get the green tide on the table. Is it the most gorgeous army ever? No but you will finish faster.

And I have to say, the finished models are flying out which is surprising for me given that I am the world's slowest painter.

Nice, thanks for the link. One small problemo that i see. 1 sat down and did all the visible skin with light green and a thakka green wash on every one of the orks (tooke me 8 hours). Which i dont really want to destroy with a full spray again. 90% of the minis are basecoated black, some are basecoated white which have allowed me too try a few rather unsuccessfull washes and dip attempts...

If the problem is that it takes too much time, did you ever consider dipping your orkses ?
It works pretty well for a table top result, particularly on this army, and it really speeds up the painting process.

I'm a perfectionist, and my main force is.... Orks. So yeah, a single model takes *cough, cough* several days....

But I am actually getting things done, because I often do something different in the meantime. Like an Imperial Guard army (only have two squads atm though) or Zombies, or whatever. After painting two or three "other" models, I can usually paint orks again for weeks. It really works!

However, there is this mob which I am very ashamed of..... It was my attempt at speed painting.... I got 30 Orks done with very little work, but it sure was NOT worth it. They look horrible.
But to be honest, I did those in my early wargaming days, when I was very unexpierienced.

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

mrMerlin. I know where you are coming from. single model days... cough, you have my respect and admiration....

Ive rotated between the IG, Orks and vampire counts. In collect those armies too.

However im finding my relief from these armies by working on my necrons... i spent 2 hours working on my orks today (partial completion) but mainly painting all the leather and guns in prep for some dry brushing. After that i finished 2 necron lords in about 30mins completely... That way i felt like i had achieved something!

Can anyone point me at a dipping tutorial on here ive not found a comprehensive one apart from the product guide for armypainter.

I'm in the same boat (although for me there is light at the end of the tunnel for now as I've only 5 boyz and 15 stormboyz left to do). I was a "single mini at a time" type, but I got to the point where I couldn't face piles of unpainted Orks! I've found that doing them in batches of 5 or 6 helps - it gets them done in reasonable time, but not in such large groups that it becomes disheartening. I've also made the decision not to give them a great amount of detail, as no one will notice on the table... Characters will get all the love, RnF just enough to make them TT quality...

I now just drybrush the cloth gray over a black undercoat, do any leather Calthan Brown with a Devlan wash, metal is done BGM, Badab Black, Mithril Silver drybrush. As they're Evil Sunz (after a fashion) I give every model some red item done Mechrite, then (formerly) Leviathan Purple, now Carroburg Crimson (which is much much better) with Blood Red to highlight... Finally flesh was just Orkhide Shade, Knarloc Green, Thraka Green, Goblin Green finally GG + Bleached Bone 1:1. Then a few details (teeth, clawss, buckles etc) and done. Looks a lot but I can get 5 boyz done in about 3 - 4 sessions of about 1.5 hours. Hope this is of some use.

Thanks to modern chemistry, sleep is now optional

I'm inclined to agree with Emerett. I've been doing my Ork flesh so far with Orkhide Shade undercoats for shadows and Goblin Green as the defining colour.

Hey.

I'm not saying it "doesn't work" 'cause obviously it does, but I tried the yellow method and found that the wash needed several runs over to get that nice vibrant green. Even after that I still needed to overbrush some goblin to get the coverage right.

I started with sunburst yellow (? - The bright one, pre latest paint range) and now I'm 'sperimenting with desert Yellow on a Nob for a darker green. On the weekend I picked up the new Yellow base who's name escapes me without looking it up that might be a better choice.

If the objective is speed, I still feel the best way is orkhide or goblin, washed and drybrushed with a lighter tone.
