There's nothing 'suspicious' about it, unless you're not familiar with their "Epic" scale game.

Now THAT is suspicious!

I had this same issue when I was looking to buy my first 'Nids WAY back in the day. Looking at boxes of 40k a few feet from he boxes of Epic, seeing how many figs you got for your dollar in each and going "hmmmmmmm, something ain't right here...".

GW's epic system is probably one of their best games to date. I loved Space Marine/Adeptus Titanicus and Epic 2nd edition. Great games. I loved the fact that you where playing games somewhat set at the size that described in the fluff at the time (army size). The models where nice and with a little elbow grease you could have a damn nice looking army. I don't have much experience with Epic 40k and Epic Armageddon but have heard good things about E:A anyways.

I hope this doesn't lead into a 'Why did GW kill off Specialist Games' tangent but....

I had a massive space marine, imperial guard and Squat army back in high school, I even had that old box set with four warlord titans. By the time I had everything painted and ready to go all my mates had stopped playing and I sold all of it for about $50.00...

If I had a time machine I would go back in time and kick myself in the jangles for that...

I'm pretty sure I still have my epic Nid army somewhere. Did not care for the last iteration of the rules I played though, couldn't tell you which version it was.

Epic, my favourite game system. I've been playing back since the launch of 2nd edition in 1992. Never did play 1st edition, but do have all the rules.

Epic: Armageddon is a vastly enjoyable and hugely tactical game. Far superior than 40k and the rules are so much tighter. The armies play exactly as they appear in the back story: Space Marines are a true rapid strike force, with an empty battlefield one minute and the next you've got thunderhawk strikes, drop pods landing, marines appearing everywhere and you're in a whole world of trouble. Imperial Guard are a proper lumbering shoot you to pieces. And Titans are as they should be - heavy death machines with weapon ranges in the kilometres.

The game is different to the you-go-I-go system of 40k and is an activation based system. This is where each player alternates activating one of their own detachments. Battlefields are much more fluid affairs where you launch counterstrikes, outmaneuvering becomes a possibility with the special crossfire rule and tactics are the order of the day. Not forgetting the blast marker mechanic which is pretty nifty in giving you a visual clue to which units are in trouble.

Also, the rules are free on the GW site. Inside they have training scenarios and instructions on how to make paper proxies so give it a try.

So sad that someone could be completely unaware of one of GW's finest ever gaming systems. :(

If only Epic could get a little official support, perhaps a slightly cheaper but larger scale option might appeal to some people.

I agree - some of my finest, more cherished and earliest wargaming memories are of 2nd Ed Epic. It's a crying shame a) that GW dropped it like a stone and b) more people don't still play it. I still maintain to this day it is one of the finest games GW have ever produced.

Can anyone else smell nostalgia?

I'm going to chip in as well on the side of Epic being GWs best system. 1st edition was nearly impenetrable to my 12 year old mind but looked so cool along side Adeptus Titanicus, 2nd Ed was a real step forward. I was so annoyed when The last edition was introduced then stalled just as more armies were coming out.

True it's still technically supported but It could be so much more. If they hadn't of gotten the hobbit licence I could easily have seen a Epic 30k being system no3.

I have to agree that all versions of Epic seem to have more synergy with the 40k background than the 40k rule set.
But then Epic has ALWAYS had its ruleset written for its gameplay.

Where as 40k rule set seems to have been stuck with being a WHFB mutation ...

Another Avid fan of Epic scale here, i used to love adeptus titanicus back in the day, its a real shame they dont support this scale as much it really is.
Also i doubt that the OP is the only person that does not know about it, ive had a couple of epic scale warhound titans purchased from me for over £50 then returned when the buyer expected a 40k sized one.

Just to add, there's a long standing rumour that's occasionally crops up that Forgeworld were going to do a 6mm True Scale revamped version of Adeptus Titanicus. It was supposed to be inspired by Titanicus in the same vein as Double Eagle inspired Aeronautica Imperialis. Supposedly Tony Cottrell gets quizzed about it every now and then and mentions that they still want to do it. Will Hayes even has a partially sculpted 6mm version of the 40k Warhound Titan on his desk.

A new day, a new time zone.

I remember there used to be a loser on ebay who would put up auctions making it sound like he was selling hot 40K FW models, priced like a good deal, but making no mention of the size in the listing, filling it up with copy pastes from the FW books, an 'about GW.' Not actually saying anything about the physical models.

I haven't heard of him in a couple of years, but at the end any time he tried to post an auction, even with new accounts, as soon as people found out about them they dogpiled the 'report' button until the auctions were pulled. It kind of gives me a warm feeling to think about the time and money he must've ended up wasting on those scams.

Every game that isn't 40k set in the 40k universe pays more attention to the background than 40k itself. It's sort of amusing, in a frustrating way.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I guess so. Some people like to just put their 40k figgies on the board, run them forward, shoot and bash things in HtH while making tons of cover saves. If that is your thing all the power to you. Some people like their games a little more tactical and like to make real choices in games. Not just hummm should I shoot or charge that unit. Neither way is right or wrong but I know what I prefer.

This whole thread is a giggle, it reminds me of when I bought a Landraider for £4 and he sent me an EPIC one, despite the picture being a proper LR. To be fair it did say in the fluff below the auction it was an EPIC Landraider, but it didn't say so in the Listing or the Picture.

I did however turn it into a Grot Tank so *Flips middle finger*, to that unscrupulous seller.

Bottomline, read all the details before you commit to buying.

I remember the clear plastic bendy ruler that came with Adeptus Titanicus. I used to use it to show my swervy routes I'd take with my Wave Serpents to push opponents around with the wave hull rules before firing the wave blast at some building or titan or squad. Wave Serpents were so cool back then.

Epic is an awesome game if you've got it.

Ah yes the plastic rulers with deceptively sharp corners!

I suspect that there were more injuries to those than whippy sticks over the years.

A well thrown barrage marker, ninja-wheeled at someone, makes for an effective weapon! Ages ago, I was playing someone at my local GW who was a bit of bad sport. He was playing Eldar and me my trusty IG. He was droning on about how his phantom titan has invulnerable saves because of its holofield. So I turned my entire artillery company on it - for those that remember: in Epic 2nd barrages ignore Eldar holofields. I landed 5 barrage templates on it, blew off its wings with the Basilisks and the Bombards punctured its plasma reactor. The phantom went nuclear, the player lost it, flung a template at me and was then asked to leave.

The catch is that they are selling it.

Back in the day, they sold a whole Space marine company for that much. Fifty bucks for the basic set, and then you could get the additional content, with chaos and a side of fries.

If you can find it, go track down the game with the Titans THAT one is a hoot.

The backstory for them is worth the cost of tracking the rulebook down itself.

This was back when GW had a few gamers still in thier midst before the great purge.

As was said, Epic was a good one. Get it on feebey, though. you can do better then that price. ( hopefully they won't start muccking with it with the plastin/ resic greenstuff sprue...)
