Fantabulous.

I saw it.

It's a great movie. I want everyone to go watch it. It's not a pleasant movie, to say the least. It's an honest movie, not some movie where everything goes right.

It's on On Demand a full month before it hits the Cinema.

This trailer nauseated me.

Also, why do misanthropes always need to hang out with a little girl?

There's definitely something uncomfortable about this trailer, but at the same time, it intrigues me enough to want to watch the film.

Trust me, nothing happens between the old man and the girl. He wants to keep it very platonic, and he treats her like a niece, not a sexdoll.

From what I understand, she wants to hang around him, which makes it totally cool

Actually, I wasn't talking about him and the girl, I pretty much figured there wasn't anything weird going on in the film. I was referring to the killing.

Killing is weird? I thought it was awesome.

The killing actually is a side note in the movie, rather than a plot basis. It's rarely bloody, it doesn't last for long, and it is really only there for a bit of schaudenfreuiden.

It's not that killing in movies bothers me in general, and obviously there's a cathartic aspect to a fictional character popping a few caps in a bunch of donkey-caves, but at the same time, something about the style of this trailer smacks of (nonfictional) killing sprees and mass shootings. I realize that it is fictional and that it's going for a certain effect, but it still hits close enough to home to make me a bit uncomfortable. That said, I'm guessing part of the point of the whole film is that, while somewhat cathartic, it is still uncomfortable. Like I said, I still would like to see the film in its entirety.

On a boat, Trying not to die.

It is an unconfortable movie, I would have to agree.

You have to go into the movie not thinking about anything else. If you think about morailty at anytime in this movie, you die inside. Not a little bit, but all of you just shuts down.

I'd reccomend getting a few brewskis in you before you go into watching it. I didn't, and it still freaks me the feth out.

The sexual fantasies of misanthropes seem defined by moral conflict dismissed via sublimation. "Even if I happen to get what I want, it wasn't my choice so it's not my fault." So the little girls are always the ones who "want it" and, as SilverMK mentioned above, that "makes it totally cool." Instead of straight sex, the nymph in this case overrides the misanthrope's apprehension that murdering people who annoy him might be wrong.

Also, I get the sense from the trailer that this movie is about as vitriolically anti-gun (for once, the NRA's phrase seems apt) as imaginable.

The merits of the gun debate is best left to another thread, but the trailer does strike me as being anti-gun and overly pretentious gak.
