So in my local school newspaper(i got to a community college) wrote an artical saying that the pervading pinion is that community college students are stupid.
Now this is obviously biased, But i do often feel less intelligent than many who went to a 4 year and my sister who is going to.
So i wonder, do you guys think community college students are stupid?

As someone who has degrees from both a community college and a four year university: yes

A thing which has more stringent requirements for entrance will contain participants of a higher caliber than a thing which has lax requirements?

If that's the end of your education, then maybe. If you are using Community College to knock out your core classes and as much as you can for 1/4 of the price, then I'd say that CC student is smarter(and headed to a 4 year institution so take that where you will).
I'd also point out that many of the richest and/or smartest people in the world didn't graduate from a 4 year university, that said most of them at least attended one.
By perception alone CC students are Deltas and Gammas, average University students are Charlie and Betas, and Alphas go to prestigious Universities (generally private ones), Alpha pluses go to prestigious universities, drop out, and get rich and conspire to create a (brave) new world order.

I am going to a four year university in the fall, but I am taking a few courses at the local community college at the moment so that my brain doesn't turn to jello while I'm waiting. I graduated a semester early from school, and the classes were offered to me for free, so I figured it was a no-brainer.

My fellow community college classmates are a diverse bunch, I would not say that ALL of them are less intelligent than students at a four year school, but some of them definitely are. For most of them, however, it is not the fact that they are less intelligent, but the fact that they are less educated that makes them appear stupid. But if you appear stupid, then people are going to assume you are, regardless of your true intelligence. That is why a four year degree is better than a two-year. Go to school and study hard, kiddies.

Well, as a graduate of a community college let me say, no, we are not. Many of us couldn't get all the financial aid we needed to afford a four year school.

As someone who is currently attending a CC, I'd have to say that as a general rule of thumb, yes they are a tad less intelligent than their 4 year counterparts.

But I agree with the opinion stated above with regards to the fact that some of us lack the financial resourses or time required to attend a 4-year school.

Yes and no. On the one hand, community colleges have lower academic expectations and tend to be an academic backwater as far as high education there. People often go there because they couldn't get into a traditional four year program (though oddly the five year program is becoming more common).

On the other hand, community colleges often have more flexible courses time wise and lower costs. People wanting to get a higher education while working have a hard time getting higher education at traditional universities.

Not everyone who goes to a community college is stupid, anymore than those who go to a full four year school are smart (they really aren't) but it is a trend.

Intrinsically? No. However, as LordofHats said, the academic expectations tend to be lower than those of your average 4 year school. Of course, there are quite a few 4 year schools that are little more than glorified community colleges (directionals, generally). In essence its a spectrum, though I think its fair to say that the best community colleges will never compare to the best 4 year institutions.

I counted eleven different errors in there, ranging from spelling to word usage to basic sentence structure. Sorry, as a writing major, I revel in being a grammar Nazi.

Honestly, I would say that at least a moderate part of community college students aren't all that intelligent. One of my classes involves critiquing stories written by classmates, trying to improve writing styles overall. I'd say that a solid fifty percent (or so) of the stories I read and reviewed for that class completely lacked the ability to write in a single tense. So many stories wound up starting off in present tense then randomly switch between past and present throughout the piece. I've read some really cringe-worthy works in that class, despite it being at the college level.

Although interestingly enough, it seems to be partly tied to age, as well. One of my teachers said in class one evening that her night classes, typically filled with older students who have busy lives, tend to have higher overall scores than morning and afternoon classes.

It's all about the resume' isn't it? All things equal people will hire the recognized school over the unrecognized. Community college is great, don't get me wrong, especially as a way to move into the better schools to complete a Bachelors, but don't fool yourself into thinking it's equivalent to places like Michigan, Virginia-tech, or other well known universities.

They are nattaring nabobs of negativity and can go themselves with an elephant's .

Some of the students are idiots. Others are hungry, very hungry and would run rings around a 4 year kid.

The other side of that is that CC's serve more technical functions and vocational training. The US doesn't need ten thousand more lawyers. Ten thousand more highly skilled CNC operators, thats a different story.

More accurate than I realized.

CC colored my view of college. I knew CC'rs who were losers. I knew 4 year kids who were losers too sucking off their parents. But I also knew a lot of CC'rs who were working class, trying to better themselves as best the could with limited resources. It was one of the great things about California, but reportedly they've major cut back on the community college system which used to be the best in the USA.

And now The Boy is setting up for UT. Grandpa Frazzled would be so proud.

I don't always spend time on the internet, but when I do, it isn't to play English teacher.

I plan on getting into some sort of community college after the Marine Corps, and knock out some credits so I'm not overwhelmed when I decide to head to a 4-year college... As far as I know, it gives you a little more time to figure out what you want to major in.

If you're trying to make a living off of just a community college, then you're in for a rude awakening... maybe not "stupid" though. I think there are plenty of people who are too stupid to belong in a four year college. The reality is that some people just have no capacity for higher education, and belong in a mediocre job, but are put in a position where they feel obliged to waste their parent's money and go to college. Don't get me started on jocks....

There's a bunch actually. They're actually engineering/sciences legacy focused schools, like Ag and Engineering/Mechanical schools. Aka people who are more gooder at math more but edumactid less gooder on Writin go there.
