i need some suggestions for transporting my collection to the game store. im running WH40K Necrons and i have something like 60 warriors, 5 HQ, annihilation barge, 4 destroyers, 3 Tomb Blades, Doomsday Ark, 2 Monoliths, 20 scarabs, 10 flayed ones, and 10 Deathmarks. does anyone have any suggestions as to a good bag or box to carry all that in? Oh also another thing to consider is i dont always have access to my jeep so sometimes i have to ride my motorcycle to the store. Thanks in advance.

There's about a million and one threads on army transports/cases/bags - do a search and you will get lots of results.

Essentially, it all boils down to either buying a purpose made case - from Battlefoam, Sabol, KR - or buying a tool box or something like that and making your own. Lots of our chums over the pond swear by pistol/rifle cases, although that isn't an option for UK based gamers.

Thanks for the heads up but my main concern is the two monoliths. They are a bit cumbersome to transport. That and the Doomsday Ark..... so many little pieces with only one glue point.

Battle foam makes some nice trays for monos and arcs. However, you can't get beyond bulky. They are six inch deep.

Battlefoam is wicked expensive and the guy who runs it is kind of notorious for his unpopular business practices. I'd go with KR Multicase.

Unpopular business practices? Pray tell. I have had nothing but good experiences ordering from Battlefoam. I've ordered five times and will use them again if the need arises.

As far as expense goes, unless you're comparing them to one of those cardboard cases, the cost is only marginally higher, and good luck stuffing a monolith into one of the cardboard cases.

I like Battlefoam, great bags and great foam, but he does run his business like a business that tries to maximize profits.

Not saying that this is a bad thing, but I do notice it.

My two experiences from Adepticon:

1) A huge horde of free bags were given away to people attending Adepticon. I think quite a few people stood in line for the sole purpose of snatching one of these Shield bags. I already had a lot of Battlefoam trays but no bags for them. Got my bag (which is a very nice bag, good quality) and quickly realized that it was not a regular "battlefoam" sized bag. The Shield bags are sized for the old GW foam. So Battlefoam gave away free bags that didn't fit their own standard sized trays, but they had plenty of GW sized foam for sale to fill your free bag with, which was somewhat of a "I see what you did there" moment. It was annoying for me, but I don't think it was a bad business practice. Privateer Press gave away free starter packs, and their goal was to hope that you buy more models to expand your starter pack. I ended up giving the bag to a buddy after I came home. He has a big stack of GW foam, so it works out great for him.

2) We ended up winning a $75 certificate from Battlefoam. I figured this was my opportunity to buy a bag for my foam (since it didn't fit in the free bag) so I stopped by their booth. The certificate ended up being a "spend $75, get $75" kind of deal. To me, a $75 gift certificate is not a gift certificate if you have to spend money in order to use it. So I was somewhat irritated and felt like "Congratulations, here is a certificate for $75. But it is worthless unless you pay a $75 activation fee." I was still grateful that I ended up saving $75 bucks, but I can see how people can get irritated at deals like that.

Now I still think that Battlefoam makes great stuff, and the PACK Go that I ended up giving ended up surviving a trip as checked luggage on two planes without any damage. I will recommend them to people looking for a good foam/bag system and I will use them again. I am just saying that I can see where people get somewhat irritated.

The one that comes to mind most quickly is when a competitor opened up shop, called Outrider Hobbies, Romeo (the owner of BF) immediately started crap-talking the guy on forums aplenty and eventually filed a completely baseless lawsuit, as well as sending ominous sounding vague legal threads to other parties in a bit of most lulzy forum drama we nostalgically look back on as "The Foam Wars".

They also were involved in a bit of patent trolling a way back, as well as being, for better AND for worse, willing to get into it with other posters here. Sometimes (usually, even) to right wrongs and answer questions, sometimes less so; your mileage may vary.

This is really offtopic, though. The guy asked about what foam he should get, so we should really talk about that; I was hoping to answer the question and move on rather than dwell on drama of years past. BF is expensive but really good, Sabol is also good and less expensive but will hold less per square foot than BF since it's less optimized, KR makes nice stuff if you're in the UK but US shipping can be irritating and their website, inexplicably, remains nigh-unusuable. Which is a shame because they seem to have really nice stuff and a lot of people swear by them.

I went with Sabol but if I could take it back and do it over again, I think I would probably spring for the Battlefoam. Their foam designer app is killer.

Do people buy foam without bags? To me it's like buying a car without wheels...

So if I got a new free bag, I wouldn't care if it was standard size or not. I got a bag for standard sizes, so another one would be pointless. Also, there's alot of different sizes these days.

Well, if you find a cardboard box of the exact same size as the trays, why not? KR Multi actually has a system based around it, and while I don't use it it does seem like a nice way of keeping your warhams organized on a bookshelf or whatever in a nice modular way, and when you're going to a game just put out x boxes by reading labels written on the side of them rather than peeking at each individual tray.

I believe that the Battlefoam proprietary trays that fit the Battlefoam proprietary bags ALSO sit nicely in cardboard file boxes that are easily found in the USA at places like Staples and Officemax.

One local guy has a big ol BF bag, and keeps all his army trays on a shelf in the file boxes.. and when he packs to go gaming, loads the BF Bag with whatever...

To be fair, Re: Battlefoam's history... it is HISTORY. Those of you who point out (not necessarily unfairly) Romeo's history can only really point to stuff a couple years old. Can you show anything he's done recently; in, say, the last 12 months?

In regards to the actual product, you'll find Battlefoam is a spectacular product. If you like firm foam and strong sided bags, Battlefoam is something you should check out.

I only say this because you also ride a motorcycle:
Depending on how much you have to carry, you may find Sabol to be a better investment. While the bags aren't as sturdy as BF, they're smaller. So, you can more easily fit them behind you on the bike (one on each side, if needed, even). You could, then, get Sabol pluck foam, or buy Sabol sized trays from BF.
With a large army, you may find that your only BF option is the 1520... I couldn't imagine trying to strap one of those monstrosities to the back of a bike (especially if it's a crotch rocket).

I missed that. KR actually makes a backpack.

So far as Romeo's posting habits, that's probably best for a new thread. Or better yet, not at all; people can google for themselves if they care to.

The problems with KR are (a) their foam is soft and squishy [I am not a fan of squishy foam. I want my foam to be more protective than that] and (b) you can really get into "expensive" territory quickly. MY DE army would've cost about $900 (per KR's estimates, not mine) to buy foam for, whereas I got into BF for less than $400.

I can vouch for KR. It is a very good storage system and when my friend dropped a case of mine with grot tanks, metal ghaz, grot mega tank and few other bits I can confirm that nothing was damaged.

I will say that the KR website is crap though and has stopped me from buying from them recently. I just cant figure it out. Battlefoam website is good and the product looks lush tbh
