So I've never been good at decals. I've put some on my guardsmen before and they never blended in very well, could still see the outline of the decal. But now, now GW put out the lahman medium (or however it's spelt) and OMG it is great. I tried decals on a new batch of models and sealed them with the medium and not a seam to be seen. Now I'm wondering, is it possible to go back and re-decal my older models even though they have been varnished?

Gloss the area to take the decal first (ard coat should do it). Then yeah, shouldn't be a problem.

Or get some Micro Sol and apply that - it's good stuff, highly recommended.

I gloss varnish to make a smooth surface for the decal and then gloss varnish again over it after it has set. I use Future acrylic floor polish. 24 hours after the second coat I'll use a matte varnish to finish the figure.

i personally dont use gloss varnish, but the matte varnish of vallejo.
i then cover the area with micro set while the decal is soaking in the water.
then i apply the decal. and dry off the excess micro set with a q-tip.
after that i liberally apply some micro sol. this will soften the decal to the point it will allmost dissolve (dont dont touch it!!!) and when the micro sol is dry your decal is almost printed onto your mini

As noted above, varnished models actually give you a better surface for attaching transfers. go for it... Also pictures are required

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I also do the gloss before and then gloss after.

Also, isn't there a difference between a medium and a varnish? The GW stuff being the former.

a medium is basically a paint without pigments. so if you add some medium to your paint it will become more transparent.
a varnish really seals the model
