What are your views on playing against the same army that you have?
I love it, it proves who is the best player as the stats are equal!
If there is no other game going I don't mind.
I tolerate it but don't enjoy playing against the same army.
I'll let others do it but I won't play it.
Call the inquisition! The perpetrators must be hanged for such heresy!

It's easy to justify for Imperial Guard. In such case the opponent is clearly a dirty, dirty heretic.

Now, if we're talking an army with the exact same list as mine, yeah that would be a little weird.

The answers are a bit lacking. Four here are in a category "it's worse than playing other armies" and one is "I love it".

I don't play SM, I only play Eldar so actually playing other Eldar player is kinda more interesting than another 3+ army.

My vote would go towards non-existing answer: It doesn't matter.

Good things are good,.. so it's good

I will if there is no other army, but I won't enjoy it as much, especially because the one time I played DA vs. DA, we had the exact same list to a single unit close...

I prefer to play new armies whenever possible, but I also choose my games more based on the player than the army they're using.

Doesn't matter to me. I often bring a different list/ force with me just in case someone would rather face Tau than marines or whatever. Clearly I prefer marines, but I'll play any of my lists.

It would be a little weird, and probably hard to play, as I supply all the models for the games I do play. Most of my models aren't painted, and the ones that are painted tend to be painted in a unified scheme depending on Codex.

Assaults would thus get messy fast.

However, if I played at the local GW, I'd probably bring either my Sisters of the Flame, or my Hellfire Marines, and those would make sense to face loyalist Astartes and Sisters of Battle, so it wouldn't be too weird.

Since I'm one of the rare few to play a Tau army, I'm actually estatic to face another Tau army instead of the one to five ratio of Space Marine Players in the store...

For Imperial or Eldar it is a Training Exercise. The Eldar, SoBs and Marines are using blank ammo. The IG lasgun can't kill anyway so...

For Orks, they are Orks.

For Necrons its an ancient rivalry.

For Chaos the Khorne guys are fighting for the fact it is war
Tzeentchians would be fighting because of "The Plan"
Slaanesh for fun and excess
Nurgle to spread diesese to the planet

Tyranids because the two forces have different genepools and the Hive.Mind wants to see the most effective at pure killing and battle. Like playing Chess alone.

Tau, could be training or one side is Farsight Enclave.

orks vs orks can be a hilariously fun and destructive game (especially if the players bring the more random elements to the table) but back when I had a small marine army, and all my opponents were nothing but marine armies....it got pretty damn boring

Guard vs Guard is SOOOOOO boring, honestly there is nothing less fun, it is both of them shooting meltas at each other within 12" yet never charge 90% of the time.

Now all I can think of is the Swarm Lord being lonely and playing chess with himself. The Hivemind doesn't have any ulterior motives, they simply want someone to play chess with.

I might play against the same codex, but my armies don't tend to be identical to any others (I've not met a guard, marine or eldar player yet who plays their army the same way and/or uses the same units in the same way as I do - but I tend to favour the "sub-optimal" choices because for me, they work.

Armies "fight" other all the time and call it "war games".
One side plays the enemy (for Australia, the "Kamarians" was the enemy for a few years during our allied forces wargames).

I don't do valkyrie spam. I don't do tank spam. I do massed infantry and ogryn charges and close range massed fire. My tanks, when they are used, tend to kill themselves instead (I take basilisks and they often scatter back on themselves - but that's ok, because they don't call arty "drop short" for no reason)

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

The same army (as in Guard v Guard), no issue. Doesn't matter to me. I've played enoughn Marine v Marine and Chaos v Chaos games in my time.

If it's same list (mirror-match Leafblower vs Leafblower) then that'd be dull.
