I've got to say, when this stuff first appeared I was not super excited by the greatcoat/not-vostroyans. However, all the mutant stuff, and the evil dwarves look very cool. I also like the character-y mutant next to the robot on the last page.
Also, I've got to say that the only thing stopping me from buying a force of these guys is the lack of pose variety... if you sold separate heads, legs, and torsos, I bet that they would sell very well. In particular the trench-zombie type torsos, along with the greatcoat legs would probably sell like hotcakes to people wanting to make Genswick Rifles/space WWI/death korp of krieg armies. The hooded and renegade heads are also cool.

The new kits are multipart, meaning you could make whatever pose you want for them.

One thing I noticed with multipart kits though, I mean, look at the Cadians. They are multipart right? Have you really seen that much variation in their poses?

The Big Mutants have me interested as well.

The Cadian kits seem to rely on their ability to interchange with other Cadian kits for the most part. A standard Cadian sprue can be boring, but toss in a heavy weapon operators or command squad sprue and things don't look that bleak any more. They're not Astartes or Orks by a long shot, but still.

To be honest, yeah, the fact that you can rotate the waist makes a pretty big difference when it comes down to it. A simple rotation "unlocks" a whole new range of poses for the head and arms of the model.

Also, IIRC you said something about time frames being hard to nail down for this stuff, but around when would you expect this new range of multi part renegades, cultists, greatcoats, etc to be done? A couple months?

Please excuse my typing as the computer i'm using is somewhat broken.

I am currently working on some multi-part minotaurs, they should be ready by the end o next month. You might be glad to hear that i drew inspiration rom the plastic gors, the narnia movies and ancient depictions o the minoan bull.

They are a little smaller than the gw versions, slightly taller than a plastic ogre and come with command and weapon options (it miht be a case o choosing the options on the webstore as a way o keeping the price down)

The initial release will have hooves, i will then alter some casts to have human legs. I should be postin the irst preview in a couple o days

As i've mentioned previously, plastic models are not happening any time soon (probs atleast a year) so it will be either metal or resin to bein with. We will try to keep the prices competitive.

To be honest, yeah, the fact that you can rotate the waist makes a pretty big difference when it comes down to it. A simple rotation "unlocks" a whole new range of poses for the head and arms of the model.

You could do the same with a simple cutting the legs off the torso with the old models as well. Icesword converted his old mutants like that.

And still they all tend to have the same poses, either that or people simply add Pig Iron heads to the models, which kind of has become another "modelling cliche"

Also, IIRC you said something about time frames being hard to nail down for this stuff, but around when would you expect this new range of multi part renegades, cultists, greatcoats, etc to be done? A couple months?

The trenchers are being worked on now if I'm not mistaken, so they will be out relatively soon (in the coming months I think?). The renegades, cultists and greatcoats are almost done and will then be sent to Ed for casting.

There will be 50 or so models and kits coming out in the coming months though.

I think ultimately that single-part bodies are fine, so long as there are a couple of variants. Whilst usable poses are somewhat limited by what looks anatomically correct and what looks 'cool' the ability to turn heads and raise or lower arms slightly (or swap in, say, grenade arms for rifle support arms and the like, or swap heads) does allow a bit more flexibility in the unit.

That being said, for years people were creating Guard armies using metal models with single-pose special and heavy weapons and 3 or 4 different rifleman poses... and it looks fine when they're on the tabletop, simply because there are so many of them.

On a slight tangent, I'm actually using the limited pose thing for effect in my old-school Necron army. The old metal warriors came in 4 different poses... so I'm (slowly) assembling one unit in each pose. Gives a handy way of keeping track of which unit is which, and while it wouldn't work well for any other army (except possibly Tyranids) I like the uniformity of pose for Necrons.

As most of the arms are rigidly locked into two-handed rifle-holding poses, what do you expect?

And I don't give a tinker's cuss over how much of a "cliche" you consider aftermarket heads to be, having separate heads is vital for those like me who actually enjoy modelling.

I'm sorry but I think you misread my post. I've got nothing against separate heads or altermarket bits. It's just that practically every Imperial Guard player (exaggeration I know!) the Cadian body with the gasmask Pig Iron head on top whilst there is so much potential out there.

Good point! Whilst we (mainly Icesword) are currently working on several multi-part kits, the whole problem of anatomically correct looks remains, I mean look at kits such as the Chaos Marauders of the IG Catachans, the arms just look really...really...weird.

Ed sends the stuff from the US to Europe, there are some deals with delivery costs, if I recall correctly delivery costs were free when you make large orders. Check the site for more on that!

Some more pictures...

Ed started working on the first Space Pirate:

Well, I was going to start this figure as a cell armature but decided it just was not the right build and was not fond of the original armature so I'm going to do a few space pirates. First will be an armored riddock type. Chest gear will cover the nuts drapery and big belt with ammo to come. Plan to do some boots with shin guards, etc. Shot gun over shoulder and knife in the other arm. 8-)

And Icesword keeps at it!
Cheers, I really love making robots. I do sometimes find mysely stifled by 40k mentality but I'm pushing away from it. The next lot i want to do are heavy walkers inspired by some Privateer Press steamjacks and a few plasticard human sized 'droids'.

I cut the feet off these to see how they look. Two on the left are ok, two on the right are a bit short now. Undecided as to what to do. They'll make fine sewer cultists for me but I don't think the outside world will 'get' them. Just need to caveat that these are not meant to be human but mutants and or tech slave things.

As for the ETA, I expect stuff to be coming out in these coming months, there is a slight delay because Ed cut his thumb pretty bad which means he is unable to do all the work he wants to do. :(

Another message from Ed:

Ok, I'm being driven mad with people wanting and requesting things and testing the molds here in resin with spin casting just sucks. The resin is no better in there than metal IMO, in fact seems much worse, so all the 1st and second wave are going to be metal, no questions or possibly way to release these in resin also.

So my plan is to release everything done now in metal, then get the second wave in metal. I can then fall back to our best sellers and make resin molds for them. The issue here is I'm going to need to buy at least 100lbs of metal, a lot of money. So I'm doing everything I can right now to get these done and out.

The other issue is no stores want resin to speak of. They will buy larger kits, but 90% want miniatures in metal, so this being the bread and butter for us long run needs to be catered to as well. That said I have a lot done just need to finish cutting and getting casts for pictures.

I also will be selling metal figures with regular bases to cut costs down for us and the fact the resin also seems to be slowing down production on my end. Just a heads up3as I will not have time to answer loads of PM's this week. I spent a full day yesterday answering emails and PM's about when this or that will be released.

The space pirate is getting me all excited! Especially for the repercussions the model might have, I mean look at the proportions and such, it actually looks human rather than some squat cartoony creature. Now imagine other sculptors (such as Icesword) taking over this approach or Ed doing multipart kits...

Oh, check out the test picture for the fellow with his pistols. Note that this isn't the definitive version yet!

It certainly is a mark-up in terms of sculpting (not to belittle previous works of course). It looks more "truescale" as opposed to the heroic scale that GW has made us all so used too, and the creases on the clothing is rather well done as well.

If this is the future of how TF will be sculpting their stuff then I'm rather excited about it all too.

How tall will the miniature be when its done?

~edit~ He looks rather fitting for a Post-Apoc setting.

Message from Ed:
When Philip gets back to the store we have a few new things this week:
metal items....

resins, new random body for the sets which will be 1, 2 or 3, exact same in metal. Most here want resin but I get lots of requests for metal on these as well.:

Alien brain will have a new deal option and the stalker has 2 heads. Next week should have a few more items. Followed by a few more the following until Feb. when the second wave will begin.

Also there will be a change with the bases for speed and the request for normal bases I now have slotta bases. resins will be additional charge but very little, some will drop, etc. as Philip finishes the store. The slottas will also be used with all metal versions and we will have a flying stand, might be hex base or possibly a 40mm or 25m round, unsure on that yet. I'd prefer the latter.

As always I'll throw a goodie for you in the bag, a resin base, whatever so only things that will change are time savers for me so I can get you more stuff quickly. BTW the new resin molds I'm making are just oh so nice. Those casts are no clean up, none just resin broke right off them. Metals very similar as well.
