Doubtful and unlikely in my mind, but an inkling at the back of my head. So he and the majority shareholders can make a cash grab and sit pretty in hawaii.
I distinctly doubt they would do that.... the sitting pretty in Hawaii part that is...
Given what many hobbyists spend on GW products, they would probably redirect that cash to plane tickets to Hawaii to surf, sun, and beat the ever-loving gak out of the soulless suits that seem to want to kill our beloved game.

Well, the new White Dwarf was in the stores today in England. My subscription isn't in my flat. I can't say I'm surprised, but I am less than pleased.

REPOSTED FROM OTHER THREAD
Not sure this is covered by other threads but I will post it here anyway.
Off the back of this thread and knowing that I had a fairly empty few days ahead I bought the July WD, and have to say that it has a fair amount of content* compared to when I last took a peek.
Now first up I thought that this was supposed to be available in GW stores first, I got this in Tesco (Big UK supermarket chain). I'm sure it has been there since Thurs/Fri? Another GW supplier issue me thinks!
What is there is all SoM, Dark Eldar and CoD as per the other threads here have guessed.
SoM looks interesting and I don't play WFB, the new monsters look good, the old chaos dwarf ones in finecast don't. (I guess this also explains GWs recent C&D activity as well). Special mention for the Chaos Socerer Lord and the VC Necromancer, both look like fine miniatures. The SoM products look nice.
No LoTRs content at all. Personally I find this to be a good this but this may just be because of the huge amount of pages devoted to Storm of Magic?
2 battle reports(one SoM and the other CoD, never been my favourite thing but I know allot of people do like them.
The shop listings and events is only about the last 10 or so pages and does include some random BL/GD stuff.
Standard Bearer on the future of miniatures - pass.
Finally If you like skulls you will love allot of the new SoM scenery. The Magewrath throne is a throne of skulls on a tower of giant skulls.
Overall, seems better than the last WD I got (1 year+ ago?), but too much of the content was thinly veiled ad-articles on the latest thing & CoD. I guess I'll look again next month in the hope of more actual hobby articles but won't hold me breath.
* - If you take the articles on face value that is and not just as ads but more interesting.

I think they're paying more attention than we give them credit for.
Probably not, they have heard it all before and nothing ever changes, most people just keep purchasing. People cry and talk alot, but for the most part that is all it ever is. I haven't bought directly from GW or a retailer in years, but i don't need the latest and greatest either.

I never thought I'd say this, but given all the recent changes by GW (e.g., prices, regional selling restrictions, no previews or advance product announcements, changes to pre-order shipping and White Dwarf mailing) negatively perceived by their customers I'm not anxious to see the road ahead. I think they've finally priced at least some of their items so high that they virtually don't sell at all and that can't be a good thing. They don't seem to be concerned with volume of sales at all with some of their prices, just the profit margin when something does sell no matter how infrequently. I've been a GW customer now for about 22 years and I've never felt as negative after a price hike or other policy changes as I do right now. The cost of entry to GW games now is through the roof and the other changes they've made this year will surely cause some customers to jump ship, especially in the southern hemisphere. Luckily my son and I have tons of stuff already and can be selective with what new things we buy, but with the cost of the rule books starting to push the $100 mark and the rumors about revising the 40K game rules backwards to their pre-third edition status, even my future in the game is in doubt at this point. Working on the models will always be fun and I have enough to keep me busy for years and that may be the direction this is going by next year. Whether or not I continue to purchase rule books and game-specific items like expansion books other than models remains to be seen. Recently I've commented discreetly with people I know well that the people in GW upper management seem as if they've gone completely crazy and everyone I have said that to has agreed with me including the GW employees I've spoken to about it.

IMHO the gross profits that are made year after year in order to maximize the price of the stock and/or dividend so when good old Kirby and/or senior managemen, and/or a person on the board of directors does retire, he and others on the board will make a great load of money due to their service package.
This is a extremely simplified example:
Lets say that a certain person in management is able to purchase stock at,.. lets say 115p per stock and lest say this person is able to buy oh about 100,000 shares of stock at this price. To keep things simple let state that the stock is at a stable 400p for a year or two. Lets say that this person decides to cash it in his stocks according to the contract this person has signed as part of his service package.
This person has just made almost a 350% profit on his stock.
Edited : sorry about the quick incomplete post previously.

So, you're basically accusing Kirby and other GW higher ups of trying to make money? That part of their motivations most of us had already sort of figured out.)

Of course, but it's at the expense of the long-term health of the hobby. I've posted it before, but this blog is worth reading, and understanding what those motivations are costing the company.

I completely agree with this. I've been in the hobby for about 20 years, and have never been witness to anything like this. In a way, I do think 'ignorance is bliss'. That perhaps I would have been better off not knowing the various ins and outs which are going on behind the scenes, of appalling decision making, of the reasons why these changes are taking place. But, I still think that even had I not been aware, and developed the kind of 'consumer conscience I have now, the price of a brand new O&G army would have been just too high (both in terms of money and time involvement), and in any case my location means I can no longer order at a sane price thanks to the trade embargo.

@ Pacific
With Games Workshop. This is what I perceive.
I do not see that the company going anywhere anytime soon. Some people want the company to burn to the ground, but I believe that there are enough people who do not know what is going on (plus the fan boi's) that they will continue to purchase product regardless of cost.
I believe that their net profits will increase in the foreseeable future as they start paying off more of their debts. Because of the small amount of investing that goes back into the Company(as I perceive it) without a true PR marketing arm + quality control, I believe you are going to continue to run into problems that they are currently in.
I believe the majority of their specialty games will be turned into video games, which is why they have not been completely abandoned.
I also believe that there will be more Video to store sales concerning the 40K/WHFB universes.
I also believe that their market share to eventually flatten out and during that period of decline and leveling out, other companies will increase their share of the market to due (whether if it is perceived to be true or not) the bad reputation Games Workshop has with their customer base. Until there is a major shake up in upper management how they what to be perceived by their customer base, it will be business as usual and the loss of customer base will continue to decline further.
WD will be WD. Perhaps there will be new things in the short term for WD, but I just do not see it going the long term. It will still be an Ad mag and an expensive on at that. But enough people will buy it just because.
There are many threads concerning these and additional problems concerns so I won't post them in here, but the bottom line is how much do people want Games Workshop to change.
If people do want them to change then continue with your concerns and voice them. They eventually will listen. All companies do.
