There was not only a R2D2, but also a dozen members of the the 501st.

Ties can land on their wings, but they need some huge ladders or use roped ladders to get in and out.

Battlegrounds II, at least on the PS2, felt extremely unfinished to me. Like if they had another 2-3 months it could've been awesome, but was instead very 'meh.'

I do remember a TIE landing on one of the X-Wing Rogue Squadron books, but that may have been an advanced model, and the books are all EU stuff, so not 100% common.

Still, maneuverable or not, TIE fighters really stress the whole "Your weapons were made by the lowest bidder."

Probably because everything is meant to be mass produced in the Empire: TIE fighters, blasters, storm trooper clones...

I did find it funny that they took the Contact option with the Executor/Lusankya: Why have one when you can have two for twice the price?

Guess we know where they found the budget for that.

Except I'm pretty sure that the Empire started taking recruits in post Clone Wars era.

That is certainly referred to in the EU (the training centre on Carida, during the Jedi Academy trilogy, for instance), but I don't recall it being mentioned either way in the original three films.

Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight also had a few TIEs resting casually on their solar panels during one of the ground levels.

I'm not so sure how well that would work with the various "bent wing" TIE variants, though.

The justification for that is that the Empire stopped using a single genestock for their clones(due to a rebellion on Kamino, see Battlefront II). So varieties of sizes and voices in Storm Troopers can be attributed to mixed clone lines in one unit. Supposedly, the 501st was the only regiment to keep using the remaining Jango stock up until a certain point(and I've heard only using the Jango clones).

However, Tycho Celchu was a TIE pilot prior to Alderaan being destroyed, so it looks like Pilots were recruited and not cloned.

The Empire also started enlisting troopers after the rebellion on Kamino.

In other news I played my first game of X-Wing last weekend and it was awesome. Looking forward to seeing what else they release.

Well, there's still the B-Wing and TIE Bomber to go. After that there's all the prequel ships (mostly bleh imo) and then all the EU stuff. I'm not an expert on the EU stuff but I'm assuming that there's tons of material to mine there, even if they stick to ships Falcon sized and under.

I for one wouldn't mind seeing them try to produce some larger ships, though anything as large as a Star Destroyer is a pipe dream :(

Given that Lucas now claims that they were always intended to be clones, expect that to last only until the Super Limited Special Deluxe No-Please-Just-Buy-Them-All-One-More-Time Edition BluRay release, where all the stormtrooper voices will be replaced with Jango's, and the shorter stormtroopers will all be digitally stretched.

Will also include the incest scene from Empire being replaced by the rebels finding JarJar's frozen corpse in a cupboard in a back room, with hijinks ensuing once he is thawed out, and R2-D2 remembering he has rockets in his legs in the Sarlac scene in RotJ, followed by a 25 minute droid race around Jabba's bloated corpse.

On topic.... these ships look fantastic. Wish I could justify buying yet another Star Wars game...

There are a bunch of things that they could include, from the TIE Avenger (the production model of Vader’s TIE), the super-advanced (and my personal favourite) TIE Defender, and other Imperial ships like the Assault Gunboat and Assault Missileboat. Even obscure things like the Scimitar Assault Bomber.

Not just the Imperials either. Depending on what eras they’re allowed to work within, we could get E-Wings and K-Wings, or even some less-advanced ‘old’ ships to give the Rebels some lower point craft, things like the Z-95 Headhunter or the R-41 Starchaser.

Or they could make Skiprays, which are always fun!

I think getting units bigger than those would be wishful thinking, although if they wanted to have a ‘big’ unit that still fights with the idea of starfighter combat (rather than capital ships slugging it out), then you could do a Rebel Corellian Gunship vs an Imperial Lancer Frigate. That’d be awesome.

Also, if we're heading into the EU, there's a metric boatload of additional pilots you could get for the main fighters - including New Republic pilots flying various TIE craft...

They could always go back and make all of those specific ships such as for Red, Blue, and Rogue Squadron, complete wth pop off battle damage, and kill markers.

The info says that the ships do not land on those solar panels. they handle in the landing bay or on stands. They have other ships that are supposed to land on the ground, and they have landing pads like that Shuttle did in the movie that the wings folded up on.

Then they have the other Bounty Hunters ships that they can do,
IG 88, Bossk, and Dengar, and the others.

I too picked up a set of this and my Stepfather picked up one of each ship(minus an extra Tie, boo.). We played with three people rather than just one(My mate and I each piloted a tie fighter and Stepdad got the x-wing.) but the game is by far one of the most amusing I've played in a long time. My mate doesn't even like Stars Wars aircraft that much and she had a blast playing. Granted we were playing basic rules but I don't see how added a few extra things is suddenly going to make the game crap. I now eagerly await more ships.

Speaking of, why no love for the Tie Phantom? <.< you know, the stealth one? I used to love that craft when I was much younger. So few people I've talked to even remember it. I will settle for the defender though, that thing was nuts in the computer games.

Someone once told me this about Porsche Panameras:
"There are two Panamera's in my hood. Visual pepper spray. When Jesus was on the cross and cried out "Father, why have you forsaken me?" it wasn't because of the whole crucifixion, it was because he foresaw the design of the Porsche Panamera."
You learn something new everyday.

TIE Phantoms are fun. They'd probably have some interesting rules. You could have Imperial and Rebel Pilots (Rookie 1 and Ru Murleen).

Buddy of mine refuses to buy one of those if they make it. If they do make one, I'll buy enough for a full 100 point squadron and that's what he'll be facing for at least the next 5 games.

They could do a whole atmospheric/ground combat expansion: Cloud Cars(both single and twin), Snowspeeders, V-wings, AT-ATs, AT-STs, TIE Tanks, there's a ton of things that planetary combat would open up.

The justification for that is that the Empire stopped using a single genestock for their clones(due to a rebellion on Kamino, see Battlefront II).

The book "Allegiance" (and its sequel, "Choices of One"), set during the post-Yavin period, features a group of five recruited (i.e. not cloned) stormtroopers that are one of the groups of viewpoint characters. So in the EU, at any rate, the Empire was recruiting humans as stormtroopers by the post-Yavin period.

As for additional fighters...

Marek Stele, the other TIE Advanced pilot, is the official name of the player's pilot in the TIE Fighter game series. So FFG is at least aware of the games. As a result, it's likely that we'll see at least some stuff from the games show up, although I REALLY hope that they never introduce the TIE Defender and Missile Boat. Those two fighters were so heavily overpowered that the only reason they were allowed in TIE Fighter is because the game was single-player only.
