1. The Y-wing and B-wing are Assault Starfighters, not purely a bomber.

2. TIE Bombers are slooooow.

Staying on target.....

The Y wing's ion cannon is used to immobilize pursuing fighters as well as fire at targets ahead, it has it's defenses. And the B-wing is slow but generally very maneuverable due to it's design.

Yeah, I've still got mine too! - An X-Wing, the Falcon, and a Star Destroyer, not to mention some Star Trek ones. The only gripe I had with them is they seem a bit prone to warping, no pun intended.

How big is a deathstar board going to be playing on this?

Do they have a Rogue Squadron set?

How big is a Star Destroyer up against these guys?

I don't like hearing that they only have three in a box, is that for real?

I'd need about twenty for a good dogfight. 20 vs 40. mmmmm.......

I suspect that they're just uisng the actual release order of the movies as a guide to what minis to make in what order. The only ones mentioned in this thread are the ones that were present in ANH (x wing, y wing, tie fighter, tie advanced). If a-wings and tie interceptors and maybe the Lambda shuttles (inserted in the redone ESB) make up the next wave, we'll know roughly when to expect prequel ships.

Fantasy Flight Games has revealed the four blister-packed Expansion Packs for the Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game, which is shipping in July. The four Expansion Packs, each of which has an MSRP of $14.95, will allow players of the game to add to their collections of starfighters. In addition to the one pre-painted starfighter miniature, each Expansion Pack also includes "Ship Cards" that allow players to choose the best pilot for the mission, plus five "Upgrade Cards" to customize their starfighters. The Expansion Packs allow those who have purchased the Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game Core Set, which includes an X-Wing Fighter and two TIE-Fighters, to greatly expand their Star Wars-themed battles (see "'Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game'").

The X-Wing Expansion Pack includes a striking pre-painted X-Wing miniature plus all the necessary cards, tokens, and dial, plus four skilled pilots including one of the Rebellion’s finest flyers, Wedge Antilles. The TIE-Fighter Expansion Pack includes the Empire’s main fighting vehicle, the highly maneuverable, but unarmored TIE-Fighter, plus all the cards and tokens necessary to utilize it in combat. The Expansion Pack also contains cards for six pilots including “Backstabber,” one of Darth Vader’s wingmen in the Battle of Yavin.

The Y-Wing Expansion Pack gives players another option to bolster their rebel forces with a pre-painted miniature of the more heavily armed and armored Y-Wing fighter, plus its tokens and dials. Four “Ship Cards” provide plenty of piloting options for players including the crack shot Hiram Salm. The Y-Wing fighters can be upgraded to include an ion-cannon, capable of disabling enemy ships at considerable range.

The TIE Advance Expansion Pack contains the upgraded advanced TIE fighter that includes shielding and advanced weapons systems. "Ship Cards" for this pre-painted miniature include Darth Vader and three additional Imperial pilots. The TIE Advanced Fighter can be upgraded with powerful cluster or concussion missiles that can do plenty of damage, and it allows players of the X-Wing Miniatures Game to augment their Imperial forces with authority.

So do them as a separate release series. Ill still be bummed if all we get is New Hope to Return era ships. I think it would be just as much fun to do Clone War era battles. Besides, some of those ships were still in operation by some factions even in the later era. Slave I was Jangos ship before Boba got it...

yeah,
I just found this demo video from gencon 2012 on youtube.

Looks pretty neat. the mechanics look a little confusing but I imagine that once you pick them up it's a pretty fast moving game.
I'm still not sold on the limited number of ships in the starter set, and I think you need to buy boosters to have more fun games... but I guess they gotta make some money huh!

And more info @FFG about building your squadrons
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=3483

FFG - Sample Squadrons wrote:

Of course, it’s one thing to talk about the differences between 100-point squadrons in the abstract and quite another thing to present examples. Without further ado, we present a few of the many possible 100-point squadrons you can build with a Core Set and just a couple single starfighter expansions.

Elite Rebels
(99 points)

“Dutch” Vander (23 points)
Proton Torpedoes (4 points)
Proton Torpedoes (4 points)
R5-K6 (2 points)

Biggs Darklighter (25 points)
Proton Torpedoes (4 points)
R2-D2 (4 points)

Garven Dries (26 points)
Proton Torpedoes (4 points)
R2-F2 (3 points)

This squadron seeks to take advantage of the Rebel Alliance’s superior firepower, and flies in formation to pick off enemies one by one. “Dutch” Vander grants his squadmates free Target Locks whenever he gains a Target Lock. R5-K6 gives him a chance of acquiring a new target lock immediately after spending his previously lock, which would grant a squadmate yet another Target Lock. While “Dutch” sets up volleys of proton torpedoes, Biggs Darklighter draws fire by forcing opponents to shoot at him. The damage he takes to his shields he can then repair with R2-D2.

Imperial Swarm
(100 points)

Darth Vader (29 points)
Concussion Missiles (4 points)
Swarm Tactics (2 points)

“Mauler Mithel” (17 points)

Academy Pilot (12 points)
Academy Pilot (12 points)
Academy Pilot (12 points)
Academy Pilot (12 points)

This squadron takes advantage of superior numbers to overwhelm the enemy. Darth Vader leads the attack with hard-hitting concussion missiles and the Swarm Tactics talent, which allows an adjacent Academy Pilot to attack early in the combat phase, as though it had a pilot skill of “9.” While the Academy Pilots have low pilot skill, their lasers hit as hard as those of any TIE fighter, and their sheer numbers are sure to strike fear into the hearts of the Rebels.

Elite Imperials
(99 points)

Darth Vader (29 points)
Concussion Missiles (4 points)
Squad Leader (2 points)

Maarek Stele (27 points)
Cluster Missiles (4 points)
Marksmanship (3 points)

“Mauler Mithel” (17 points)

Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13 points)

This elite Imperial squadron is all about bringing the hurt at close range. As Squad Leader, Darth Vader grants a nearby Maarek Stele the ability to use both the Target Lock and Marksmanship actions in the same turn, super-charging his Cluster Missiles and nearly guaranteeing that he’ll score and choose a devastating critical hit against whatever he targets. If Maarek ever goes down, Vader can lend his support to “Mauler Mithel,” who gets an extra attack die at close range.

Rebel Swarm
(100 points)

Rookie Pilot (21 points)
Proton Torpedoes (4 points)

Rookie Pilot (21 points)
Proton Torpedoes (4 points)

Rookie Pilot (21 points)
Proton Torpedoes (4 points)

Rookie Pilot (21 points)
Proton Torpedoes (4 points)

X-wings are among the most powerful fighters in the Star Wars universe, and this squadron serves as evidence. Rookie Pilots may not be the most exciting pilots, but they all know how to fire Proton Torpedoes. This squadron manages to assemble four X-wings and four sets of Proton Torpedoes. You’ll want to acquire Target Locks early, then use your shields to absorb the inevitable first volley, and retaliate in force with the X-wing’s superior firepower.

Looks great

Two of my gamer friends picked the starter set up, along with some of the extras that sold out on day one (Y-Wing, Tie-Advanced). 4 of them played on Friday evening for a few hours. They all said that they liked it better than Wings of War and we love Wings of War. I was too busy reading through the new Star Wars RPG book from FFG to watch them play it.

I watched some folks demoing and that was enough to get me to buy the starter.. I was already considering it anyway. My nephews are getting older and they all love star wars, so I think they'll enjoy it, seems like it'll be a fast and fun dogfight game.

I didn't get any boosters, but the starter comes with just the 3 ships but also all of the counters and rules and little asteroid templates and other stuff. I felt like it was worth it. But the separate ships are like $15 I think? that seemed a little pricey.

But the ships do look good in person, better than most pre-paints I've seen. Doubt I'll buy any more ships though until I get to play the game and see how much I like it.

yeah,
the sample squadrons above are all 100pts.
they have official tournament packs available for download and they also place a squadron limit of 100pts.

This is how much the Sample lists above will cost, after you buy the basic game.

Elite Rebels +$30
2x X-wing
1x Y-wing

Imperial Swarm +$60
1x advanced tie fighter
5x tiefighters

Elite Imperials +$30
2x advanced tie fighter
2x tiefighters

Rebel Swarm $45
4x X-wng

It would seem to have a good stock of minis to enable most variations you will need to buy about $150 of extra ships.
(an extra 10 ships - 3x X-wing 2x Y-wing 3x tie fighters 2x advanced tiefighters)

But after that you don't need to paint them and can get stratight down to list building and action!!

Agreed, its been tried already, and failed miserably. Also, IMO capitol ships and fighter minis being the same size looks really dumb. I would say nothing bigger that a YT-1300 should be added.

1/270 was the number bandied about last month before the release of the Mill Falc and Slave 1 which people are saying are a bit off (don't know if its true personally). Even a very small capital ship like the correllian corvette (Leia's ship in the first movie) Tantive IV would be the size of a Forgeworld Flyer or larger. Even if they don't come out with it, players can theoretically just use similar scaled model kits for custom scenarios.
