It would be just an Imperial Fist going down the hive to visit some relatives (or their offspring). But then some gangs mistake him for a dumb cosplayer from the spire and attack.

I think the new rule set for necromunda explains the release of the old ruleset as shadow wars.
Old necromunda players will want to use the ruleset they like, But new players of 8th don't want to use mechanics from second.
Release the old ruleset as a new game , new players can build their gangs out of 40k factions, Old players can retrofit their gang stats into shadow wars.
New 8th players get a fresh intro to necromunda , old players don't feel liek their ruleset has been abandoned.

That is actually pretty funny. I can just imagine a Salamander getting lost on the way to the bakery or something, and running into a gang Do you think they'll turn the game into more a standalone skirmish game? Necromunda was more of a RPG, in that your gang gains experience with every game.

I would hope that they stick with the campaign system, as that's what made Necromunda so much fun. Having said that, making starter gangs a little less useless at everything would have made one-off skirmishes a lot more fun as well... Although you could get around that by allocating a number of upgrades to each gang before the game.
We actually wound up doing something like that even for campaigns... It never made much sense that Juves very quickly amassed more skills than starting-roster gangers and heavies, so we used to assign upgrades based on starting experience and how many levels they would have gone through if they had started from 0. Made starting gangers a little better, and get past those first few really boring games of the campaign before anyone learns which end of the rifle is the hurty end.

As I mentioned in an earlier post. The old Ruleset had alot of issues, could be tuned, could be abandoned. I just don't want it to be the exact same.

Be honest folks with your nostalgia. There were lots of good things about old Nec, but there's a lot of antiquated 80s-90s rules conventions that are pretty much objectively better by today's game design standards.
Now, if GW actually writes it well? That's a whole different story. They're perpetually 5 years behind the curve as far as rules go in modernity.
Also, remember that Necromunda introduced us to the best holiday ever, Fistmas, Rogal Dorn's birthday.

One open day report was mentioning a tunnel-fight scenario in the starter set. So if that report is correct there may be (some) floor plans in the new boxed game.
This sounds a bit like another GW classic product, JD/ 40k urban floorplans.
It was 40k's first steps into hive war/cityfights back in 1987
After Overkill, First Strike and Know No Fear and with Rictus' info there will be papercard terrain in the starter I could see them releasing something like a mix of the Infinity starters and the original Necromunda. That would be pretty cool, actually

Necromunda was 2nd edition 40K with an advancement and campaign system added on.
Necromunda as 8th edition 40K with an advancement and campaign system added on would work just as well.
99% of the advancement and campaign system wouldn't even have to change to be compatible.

They are actually clear acrylic photo/picture frames in sizes from 4"x6" up to 16"x20" like these: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Acrylic-Box-Photo-Frame-Set-of-6/21683045
They were purchased from Walmart, Michaels and Aaron Brothers art supplies. One of the cool things about them is that they can nest inside each other, simplifying transport.
The brick texture and sidewalk pattern are textured styrene sheets from Evergreen and Plastruct.

As much as I don't like 8th edition, if it's the basis for the new rules I could actually see it working.
The problems with 8th are the way vehicles don't work like vehicles, army construction is broken, 1st turn slaughters from whoever goes first. None of these apply to necromunda.
If playing with only 8 - 15 models in a terrain heavy board (with some proper rules for terrain). Add in alternate activation and it could be on to a winner.
Would also make much more sense as an introductory game if there was a large rules carry over between this and 40K.
But a good and detailed campaign system is a must, it's why the original succeeded.
But I guess if the new rules stink, I can always just keep playing the original with new models.
