In this thread, Synister_Intent asked for more info on the dreadknights I converted for my renegade inquisition army. Decent weather today allowed for better pics.

The inspiration for these was simple: while otherwise awesome, the terminator baby-bjorn on the front of the dreadknight reaaaaaaaally detracts from the model. So, here was my solution to the problem:

For the first one, I kitbashed the DK kit with a sentinel cockpit. Fairly straightforward overall, with carved battle damage and chopped armor plates from the chaos vehicle upgrade sprue to finish things.

(overhead)

For the second one, I decided to build the "face" / chest using bits from the Aegis Defense line, unused DK weapon bits, and miscellaneous plasticard.

(chest detail)

(profile)

(both)

In both cases, I left off most of the most of the rounded....bodywork?...of the vanilla model in favor of a more stripped-down, ramshackle look. Between that and hacking the bejeezus out them, they have a very different feel than the stock model, and they've been tremendously fun to use. For the last one, my plan is to get a little more ambitious--I'm hoping for a more Soulgrinder-ey / possessed warmachine look. I will also give repositioning the elbow & leg joints a shot.

Fantastic improvement of an otherwise laugh eliciting model. Great job!

Very cool conversions. Makes the normal dreadknight look dreadful!

There is something off about the first one. The second one is EPIC.

I agree- the first, I am not a huge fan of... but the second, Wow!!! That is a fantastic conversion, and makes it what it always should have been- a centerpiece model.

Thank you, that is some amazing work, I am very jealous at your skills but those are some beautiful models.

Fair enough. I was going for more of a mini-titan feel with the first one, i.e., having a distinct cockpit for the pilot... but I think it would work better with pure gun arms rather than hands.

The second one seems more 'integrated,' as a whole, and I agree--it's my favorite of the two. It feels more like an angry robot rather than a mini-mech with a human pilot.

The last one will have wings (to represent the personal teleporter), and plenty of sculpted musculature & rot.

While I think BOTH are huge improvements over the original, I do like the second one better.

Thanks for sharing!!!!

(I will be trying to make mine with dred torsos some how...).

Based on your userpic, I'm not surprised.

Those are both great... but the second one is really outstanding. Nicely done CatPeeler.

Technically the work on both is great, but while the second one looks awesome and killy, the first looks a bit headless and... pregnant?

Hah. I'll have to paint on some Slaaneshi markings, then.

The second one is ace. Very grimdark and sinister looking.

The first one looks "dopey" for lack of a better term. Sorry.

I think the first one has a lot more potential than the second, have you considered mounting weapons on the shoulders?

I can tel lyou all why the first titan looks off.

It's because it looks like a headless fat mechanical ogre. The cockpit matches the profile of a stomach really well which throws the entire image off in our mind's eye becuase the head is missing.

Add a missile launcher pod between the shoulders and a kill banner between the legs, and you are set, the titan is fixed.

Nice work! The second one is very similar to my IG dreadknight WIP, I even used the same weapon part as the cockpit section!

Mostly, on my phone.

Very nice indeed. What I "like" (using that term advisedly) about the NDK is that because everyone has so much frothing rage against it, it has inspired countless imaginative reworkings. Quality!

I was thinking the same thing that a lot of other were.
A little too pot bellied on the first one.
The second one is perfect.
If you were to want to change the first one in like ten seconds, you could flip the cockpit so that the belly became a barrel chest. Much more beefy looking that way.
