Managed to convince a handful of friends to start the game cause it the models are just to awesome and reminds me of a minature version of valkyria chronicles. So I just ordered my first starter set Haqqimislam. That being said my friends who have already started assembling their models say its pretty difficult and they are doing allot of drilling and pinning. looking for some advice that isn't drilling and pinning because I'm just not good at it. Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid you're not likely to get the advice you want - these models really do benefit from pinning to strengthen what are (being less chunky models than a lot of manufacturers) narrow joints and models in many pieces.

Not all of them need pinning, but in some cases, it really is best. The only thing I can really say to help is that you'll get better at drilling/pinning with practice.

Truth be told, I have wanted to pin a lot of the models, but just haven't had bits small enough. Pinning isn't hard, and if you want some tips and tricks, I'm sure we'd all be willing to chip in our ideas.

For me though, I've only pinned the big stuff. My Magahriba Guard, all of my Remotes and Drones... they all get pinned. My troops don't really need it.

I have two recommendations if you're not going to pin.

1) Clean the area you're gluing! - I can't stress this enough. I had been just gluing guys together with no problem, and then I hit a couple where nothing would go together, nothing at all. I pulled them apart, cleaned them up, and went to glue again, and they locked in place nice and quick. I don't clean my models before gluing and priming and whatnot, I just haven't had that problem. But taking a toothbrush to your models certainly can't hurt.

2) Get New Superglue! - That bottle of Citadel glue that's a few months old? Trash it and start off fresh. Get some Loctite Superglue, or Zap-a-Gap, or whatever your favorite awesome glue is, and you'll be happy. It's hard to tell when glue is going bad, but spend a few bucks and get some fresh stuff.

I'd also invest in a little bit of Liquid Green Stuff... or normal putty if you can use it. I can't, but when I've been gluing guys together, I've found some of them have really nasty gaps here and there. Having a bit of Liquid Green Stuff is great for filling in those holes, and it gives you some extra grip to hold everything in place. After gluing the antennae on Drones, I tend to seal around the edges with LGS just to give a little added support... since those are physically impossible to pin.

Hope this helps chief.

alrighty thanks for the advice guys. Overall you mentioned what I had feared, I.E. that I would need to learn to pin. I'll just take some old models and try it out on them cause I don't want to screw these ones up also yes valkyria chronicles. You have orders based upon characters you can move everyone or just one person and when you move into enemy los you get shot at ala AROs! can't wait really excited about infinity.

Awesome model there Chemical Cutthroat

I agree, you won't have to pin everything. A nice new superglue (not the GW stuff, spend £4-5 on some Zzzap or Rocket), perhaps a dab of greenstuff to fill a joint, and then that should see you through most stuff. I certainly wouldn't bother trying to pin wrists with weapons and the like. I'm used to pinning and I just wouldn't have the skill (or a tiny enough drill for that matter).

As a rule, if something is heavy and load bearing (a TAG for example) then you might have to use a pin, but that should generally be a lot more straightforward.

The tip I found most useful for drilling the holes for pinning is this.

After you've cleaned up the pieces, drill the first hole in your model. On the other piece, place a small ball of greenstuff or blu tac... something putty like anyway, and press the two pieces firmly together.

Carefully pull the pieces apart, trying to keep the putty/whatever on the piece without a hole. You should, if it's done carefully, have a flat piece of putty with a blip where the hole is on the other part. You can then use this to show where you need to drill your other hole

Now that's just brilliant. I never thought of that!

I usually just drill and pin one side, then put some paint on the pin, then line it up roughly and press, and drill where the paint is.

Or I eyeball it. That always ends well. (Mild Sarcasm)

I'll have to try the blutac thing.

That kind of "welding" does not work properly on small surfaces such as the ones we want to put together in our minis. Trust me, I tried and I still support the pinning option, hard as it is, it's the most reliable one.

I use Araldite (two-part epoxy resin) on the trickier joins, and it's worked fine so far, despite a very bumpy ride to game night each week. (Game night round here takes place on a farm, and involves a drive down a windy, bumpy lane, and over two cattle grids!)
