OK so I got absolutly tabled at the weekend playing a 1000 point games with Space Wolves against Orks. Admitedly this is only my second game in over a decade so I'm not to unhappy.

I found that after the game I went home and had an urge to paint up my "last man standing". A Rune Priest Terminator. And whilst painting decided on a name for him.

Corvax Dyn-diwethaf-sefydlog (Last-Man-Standing)

I was wondering if anybody else has done this and what are some of your colourful names.

Kind of, mine earn their names. For instance my GK dread after 3 turns of close combat/trying to kick a lictor to death, the lictor rending and penatrating then only scorings 1s and 2s (fortituded and bad rolls yay) needless to say, he earnt his damn name: Brother "Open Casket" Ivo

I give lots of my soldiers names, when they die, I get rid of their names and make them a nameless grunt, only earning a name when they do something notable. I keep track of some of the more notable guys I name and their actions, stuff like a guardsman who managed to destroy 5 vehicles in death or glory situations until he was killed, or a Demolisher that racked up a lot of tank kills and earned the name "The Emperor's Retribution". Hell I had one guardsman who survived an absurd number of battles before finally dying. Being too attached to him I decided to convert him into a Marbo count as, paint a very thin coat of white paint on him and called him "The White Death" fluff is that he is some avenging spirit now or a saint or something. I figure it is tame compared to the Sanguinor.

-My WIP Sons of Orar army will (hopefully) all be named with their titles and all that written on to their bases as I did with Vassos

I find it hard not to name my guys, after investing time in buying, modelling, painting and then later gaming them. It just makes it much more personal and "real" to me.

Damned if I'm naming all my Dark Eldar though, that'd be impossible!

One of my good friends (and a fellow Guard player) would run a Primaris Psyker in his lists, using a drunk and half naked clown model with a bottle of booze. The booze was painted bright colours and represented his force weapon (or bottle). We called him BoJangles. He never failed to either kill himself or shoot some absurd number of shots with the lightning power. He never performed 'average', it was either die embarassingly, or kill everything in sight. Such is the problems of running a depressed, alcoholic clown as your regimental HQ.

Like most people, I tend to name my important units (like my company commander), and my vehicles (not transports, but actual tanks, etc.), but nothing else.

My current guard commander is named Daxos P. Clinton, because the names have a greek theme, and the name of clinton is associated with high-ranking gentleman officers. My tanks all have goofy names that sound like people would name their tanks that. A basilisk named Lord Excellence, for example, and russes named High Fidelity and Steel Badger and the like.

Whenever I'm playing a special character, I always try to make the name an anagram of the actual special character's name. For example, Al'Rahem for me became Rhamael.

Well I run a themed Imperial Guard army. It's a co-ed combined arms regiment, so I rename all of the special characters that I use. Some are more jokes than anything, but they work. For back drop (on two of the characters) the planet of EnVer (home world of my regiment) turned out to be a Necron tomb world. For 5 years the people of that planet rebelled against the Necrons until help finally arrived after hitting a nasty warp storm. Any way here are my character names.

Creed - General John Conner (converted to look like the terminator character from T2).
Kell - "Uncle Bob" (I converted (mildly converted to look like the terminator, but in Cadian gear)
Nork Deddog - Dork the Dog
Harker - Sergeant First Class Kara Black
Marbo - Corporal Lisa Abrom (Black's twin sister)
Straken - Colonel Shana Starvein
Alrahem - Lt. Sirmier
Pask - Commander Aaron Plinkston

The only character that I almost never use is Sergeant Bastonne and I keep the name the same. Mostly because I like it.

As some of you might have noticed a lot of special characters are fem-guard. I had time for conversions and enough counts as models to do the trick.

That's more than lucky!

You just reminded of my Kabalite Warrior "sergeant". I left him in my flgs for about 4 weeks, went in for a game, found that I didn't have him, asked around and he'd been put behind the till.

The manager said he was about to chuck him out as no one had claimed him! So I reckon I should name him Tra' Shbin or something...
