Now as we know, female Space Marines don't exist because women are simply incapable of surviving the Black Carapace implantation process (supposedly...). However I have thought of a way one could justify a female Space Marine army without violating the fluff...

I know, it sounds insane, but hear me out.

Now, first, let's make up a chapter, for the sake of arguent we'll call them the Hands of Fire. Now, suppose that they sided with Huron Blackheart in the Badab war, like the Lamenters, but later sided back with the Imperium and went on a quest of repentence, nce again like the Lamenters. The other chapters that joined Huron, but later became loyal again, just went on big crusades, but not the Hands of Fire. Oh no. They feel so much shame that they make a vow that every single Space Marine in the chapter will become a woman, and that part of their recruiting process includes gender assignment. Remember that in the 41st millenium, medical technology has inproved vastly for those that can afford it.

What do you think?

Just make Slaaneshi Chaos Marines if you really want ladyboy Marines. Somehow I imagine if modern society can barely tolerate overt sexual deviancy, the 40K world isn't going to, lol.

I mean, I'd never tell anyone what to do or not do with their own plastic toy soldiers, so model whatever you feel like. But this part of the fluff is pretty inflexible. So if you're looking for a back story to your models, you're not going to find one. But only a petty jerk is going to refuse to play you in a game.

You know what marines do when they become penitent and seek to redeem themselves? They go on crusades or do something [italics]productive[/italics].

If I remember rightly, the various traitor chapters, along with the Astral Claws, went on a huge rampae of raping and murdering. Think of it as repentance for harming and abusing women.

This is rather silly. I think when it comes to female SM, just do it. Don't try to wiggle and jump around it. Just straight up and do it. The explanations people come up with just complicate things.

This is pretty dumb, punishing ones self in a crusade is a stupid reason for gender realignment. If you want female space marines just say they are recruited from a newly found planet where the women can survive the implementation or have them on some kind of world where machines have been used so often for so many years they have evolved the ability to interface with machines including power armour.

As far as I know, the non-existence of FeMarines - aside from being a purely aesthetical choice to better tweak the army to the "masculine god of war" image - doesn't have to do anything with the Black Carapace but is due to the zygotes being keyed to male hormones. Which is some classic sci-fi technobabble bullgak, as all hormones exist in males and females, just to (usually) different amounts - which is why we have individuals who are ... skirting the borders, so to say.

Anyways, even though I personally do not approve of the general idea (I'm a fan of the traditional gender separation in Marines<->Sister), I would agree with nomotog: Just Do It.

You can always come up with some sort of excuse for anything - for example that it was just the Emperor's will that these zygotes were compatible only with males but that technology would enable general application. Or roll with the Slaanesh idea and have it be either a gift or a curse, depending on whether this Chapter fights for or against Chaos. I'm sure there are a dozen other ideas you could use if you really wanted to. There's not much of a point in discussing them, though. Haters gonna hate and fans gonna fan, so if you are convinced that you want to break with the norm and aren't afraid of the backlash of the people you're playing with, just go with what you yourself like the most.
There's no such thing as a canon in this franchise, anyways.

I like that first idea. When it comes to making female SMs I say keep things simple. You don't need big long explanations. They won't convince the skeptics no matter how complex. Focusing to much on explaining it actually makes it harder to believe and it can make them feel one note. You know you want to focus on your chapters mastery air combat, not their gender. They are SM, they are female. That's all the explanation you need.

Another thing to avoid is making them one of a kind. I guess people don't want to bend fluff any more then they have to, but if there is exactly one female chapter, it makes them stick out to much. I think your better off going big. Adding 4 or more other female chapters makes it more normal that this one happens to be female too.

For novelty purposes I would love to see a whole SM army converted and painted into a bunch of ladyboys with candy pink armour and miniskirts

Apart from the very obvious misogyny... Sisters of Battle are used to purge traitor Marine chapters, thus women are not an inferior specimen of the species... umm... no?

What you have here is not "female Marines", what you have here is transgendered Marines. You have a bunch of males, biologically, who have been surgically reconstructed to have the outward appearance of a female. Not at all the same thing and.... really, over all, an incredibly terrible idea.

You want Marines with Boobs? Make Slaaneshi Marines. You want Girls in Power Armor with Big Guns? Make a Sisters army.

Just do it, remember GW's policy when writing 40K fluff:

But seriously, if the guy wants female Space Marines, let him go ahead. Fluff-wise though, expect raised eyebrows from the Inquisition and the Adeptus Mechnicus, not to mention RAGE from other Chapters.

Lets approach this as an idea.
Squig doesn't want female marines he's just trying to brainstorm ideas for people who do.

This works, it passes all the difficulties that present themselves.
A curse from Slanesh would cause such a mutation.
A defect in the genes would also.

The only idea that doesn't really break the lore is the Slaaneshi one, outside of that? If these Marines were so genetically-altered to be considered, biologically, female, they would have died on the operating table during the Initiate phase.

You sir, may not be misogynistic, but 40k certainly is. It's not your fault there will never be true female marines in the fluff apart from heavily mutated Slannesh marines.... and even then, they're still EVIL. It's just the way it is, and there are plenty of other opportunities for women to be baddass in this universe. Commanders, SoB, IG, pilots, ect. It's really nothing to sweat over, I think battle nuns trump SM's for coolness any day anyway.

No. There are no female SM's (exept maybe slaanesh stuff) and what you are proposing is quite frankly just stupid. They get forgiveness though crusades and battle so that maybe, just maybe, they will be accepted again. Not this. If you really, REALLY want marines with bewbz, then just go with chaos.

Technically, if they are surgically castrated, there are no female or male space marines... they also wouldn't really look all that different...
As it is I don't particularly care but if you want to do it just do it.
I'd rather not read another rubbish explanation as to why your marines are female.

Well there is a feat in Deathwatch called Chem Geld. Makes you a little insane and immune to seduction. I take it to be that marines still have the equipment, they just never use it. 99 problems and a sister of battle ain't one and all that.

If you want females marines then do what I do..say it with me now "That silly line does not exist"


@Chem Geld does not make it not work(AFAIK). What it does do is make you immune to seduction and the like. You can still get it up if you choose.
