Can’t see a post release Prometheus thread anywhere, so here are my thoughts…

Micheal Fassbender = Arguably, the sole reason for watching this film. Although I’m still confused by what his motives were, his performance can’t be faulted.
Noomi Rapace = Solid performance but in a sub par Ripley role.
Charlize Theron = Does extremely well with what she was given and I actually quite liked her character as a consequence but at the end of the day…
Spoiler:
…she gets crushed by a falling spaceship, because she can’t turn left or right

Idris Elba = Another solid performance, but again his character doesn’t really go anywhere
Guy Pearce = I love Guy Pearce but this was ludicrous casting

Supporting Players = I don’t expect great character development for the cannon fodder, but a lot of these characters are around for the most of the film. For example mad Scottish bint from Game of Thrones is there right up until the final scenes but she has nothing to do except follow Noomi Rapace around. By way of comparison, Spunkmeyer from Aliens got a few lines, but you still connect with him as a slightly downtrodden co-pilot of the dropship.

Plot = The big disappointment of this exercise. Are we doing a last man standing survival film or something more deep and meaningful about life, the universe and everything. Ridley isn’t sure.

Antagonists = If you make a film which is blatantly an Alien prequel but aren’t going to call on the beasties to act as your bad guys, then you’re going to have to pull something really special out of the bag. In my opinion…
Spoiler:
Slimy tentacled blobs and albino super humanoids

…fall short of “really special” by a significant margin

Overall = I don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing an Alien prequel without the aliens, but this needed more of a clear direction and ultimately the denouement is unsatisfying. It also fails on basic fundamentals such as character development. Still, it’s (just about) better than Alien Resurrection.

On the other hand, that thread says right in the title Spoilers so I've not looked at it, where this one is not yet listing any except whatever he put in a spoiler tag, so I appreciate this thread.
