So they are getting a Finecast model down the road. Just buy some off Ebay, that's what I did when I had my Tau.

Could it spell either a finecast release for them or some kind of 6th ed revision to Tau? It COULD be a positive thing...and there's always ebay.

they're usually going for more than retail on ebay and even then they're often missing parts or broken at the ankles. trust me guys i've been looking. i lost out on the NIB one i've seen a week ago because it went for over $35 plus shipping.

Still available here but with an expected 3-4 week dispatch for what it's worth. It's when they vanish everywhere with the codex that it may hint at an update being close.

most likley a finecast, or possibly just a rework of the kit to plastic. since its already mostley plastic to begin. (i think the only metal is the railguns and feet?)
its been a while since tau got any new models, so a retouch on some of them might be a nice thing. i dont think it heralds for a new codex, more along the lines of the tyranid wing tyrant and tervigon, TWC... maybe GW is just rekitting old ones and providing models for long lost codex entries?

yeah, the railguns, SMS, the feet and the jet pack bits are metal, the rest is a normal crisis suit.

They might be tooling up a Forgeworld style Broadside for plastic. It certainly makes no sense to do them fully in finecast, and I think the existing metal bits would convert poorly into resin at the moment.

Its the feet, arms and railguns yeah, with a bit of luck they use this opertunity to make it look like the FW one, 2 in a box for £25 would be great, 3 in a box for £35 wouldnt be bad either

As I said, for what it's worth it is still available here. That link simply shows the below to me.
This boxed set contains 1 multi-part plastic Tau XV8 Battlesuit and additional metal components for it to be assembled as an XV88 Broadside Battlesuit.
Availability:
This product is expected to despatch in three to four weeks.
Part Code: 99140113005
Though it is $55.
If there is a replacement it is not quite as imminent as it first appears.
In fact this piqued my curiosity so I checked all the different sites. It is in fact available on every other version of the site besides the US, Canada one. Hence I believe it may just be the mold breaking down in that region. It seems more likely that they'd get the mold going again then keep pumping out this version until either the metal bits get finecasted or the new codex comes out with a new complete plastic one. Then in fact every other site besides the NA and AUS ones appear to get it despatched within 24 hours, while those two have the 3-4 week wait.

All models are produced in the UK, no regional production facilities. Likely the regional warehouses are awaiting new shipments. I could see them making an upgrade pack similar to the Iron Hands pack and making you buy a crisis suit in addition. Then I would wagwr the $58 for a FW broadside wont be that bad

Hmm I've been under the impression they did all this time. Guess that was wrong then.
Edit: Found where it may have come from. Though I had originally heard it around Dakka to begin with anyway.
Gamesworkshop wrote:The UK manufacturing operation in Nottingham is complemented by a production facility at our despatch warehouse in Memphis, TN, USA.
It does say compliments so it I doubt it'd be doing anything without also relying on shipment like you said. Doesn't even go on to say what it produces anyway or on what scale. Always sounded bigger whenever I heard about it, but I guess that's what you get with hearsay.

just checked the site. im in canada, and it is also unavailable.
the other crisis suit models are still available however, and one would think if they were redoing the broadside, the other suits would get a simaler redo. i suspect its just going to be a 100% redo to a plastic kit, with maybe some more options, or multiples in a pack for more cash. probally the same sculpt.

That's exactly what I'd think is happening.
The Tau have been notably absent from the various releases, but several people have been adamant that we are going to see something for the Tau.
It's worth noting, however, that we have not seen plastic/Finecast hybrids released. We've seen the kits dropped with the Finecast components sold separately. Actually, as of a couple of years ago, the Memphis facilty was producing a large amount of the GW range. There are also factories in asia. Seem to remember about two years back that some Forge World stuff coming out of China(They were legit, not knock offs). GW is a multi-national with production facilities world-wide. It would be interesting to see if GW sold off some of these facilities and whether such sales play any part in their maintaining the same gross income despite their dimiinshing customer base.
On topic: It has been often thought by many that the Broadsides would most likely get a seperate model from the xv8 crisis suits come the next codex. If GW did such, my guess would be a Failcast model that is about 25% taller than the current xv88's. Price would be about $33-$37 US.

finecast sucks so badly, i'd honestly just rather have a normal plastic model, but i'd settle for anything really.

I'll bet anything that the Broadsides are going to either:
A: Plastic kit with the metal parts in Finecast.
B: A "conversion/upgrade kit" like the Space marine Bikes, where you'll just get the metal Broadside parts as Finecast.
Either way, it sucks to be Tau right now. You're not going to be able to get Broadsides for your army for about 'forever", and then have to finally be forced to live with Finecast.
While the coolest thing they could do is release all the Broadside parts as a companion plastic sprue for the existing kit. Better yet, they could release a kit without the idiotically thin ankles. I think either might be too hopeful.

I'll bet neither. It's not uncommon for 'special' units now to come as dual kits, and also have a huge amount of wasted bits. Look at things like the Tomb Kings snake riders or the Zombie Dragon and Imperial Griffon in fantasy, and recently in 40k we've been getting it as well with things like the Hive Tyrant kit, and way back to the Carnifex. 40k kits have still been a bit more on the economical side of wastage than fantasy, but still. I'd bet there will be a new Crisis plastic kit with Broadside railguns (and maybe even some new shoulder mounted Ion Cannons, since GW's motto lately is 'expand! expand! expand!' even if it's not needed. It's not as much of a waste as say, throwing away the wings, entire separate tail and separate legs and Swarmlord bits if you go with a standard Tyrant, not to mention the weapon options you don't use. I'd even go out on a limb and predict a 3 suit box like Thunderwolves, Stone Crushers and Killa Kanz. Model size is comparable.
It's really a lot cheaper in the long run doing it like that than doing finecast upgrade packs. The upgrade packs we're seeing for 40k are things they didn't have a chance to add to the plastic kits. Boneswords/lashwhips for warriors, bike upgrade kit, Necron heavy destroyer, etc are additions to plastic kits that haven't been redone in a couple of editions, and things like the Von Carstein shield pack is a purely cosmetic upgrade pack. GW are moving away from these, but it's been necessary here and there where they have included new options without retooling the units plastic mold. If new Crisis suits are done for Tau (and considering their importance to the army and much complained about current model, it's pretty likely), any and all varients will be on the sprue.
