I prefer multiple small units of these guys with two Pyscannons in each, would I be better off fielding squads of 10?
And halberds seem like a waste of points...what do experienced GK players say?

Halberds have rarely done me wrong. The ability to strike before most units, and on initiative with others, is invaluable. Taking out a few of their troops before they can attack you does a real number on the amount of damage they can do to you, and if you get charged by a unit that is I6, then striking at the same order can minimise the amount of attacks you can lose. And bseides, purifiers dont get an inv. save, so theres no point carrying swords. I tend to take two halberds, and a daemonhammer for insurance. Fairly standard for most people, or so I hear, but its effective.

5 purifers
2 psycannons
2 halberds
1 hammer
transport
This is usually what I run in my standard purifier list and it's very versatile.

Halberds, on Purifiers, are godly awsome. a really cheap upgrade to make you strike before most things in the game with a Force Weapon.
I'm a little shocked you havn't latched onto this.
I run my Purifiers in squads of 10 with 4 psycannons, 5 halberds, and a Daemon Hammer. 295 points of really shooty really assaulty troops. Only downside is that they have no durability beyond T4 and 3+ armor.

I like running squads of 6 Purifiers, when I choose to field purifiers... 3 Halberds, 1 hammer, 2 Psycannons + Razorback. Though, really I'm more of a paladin player.
It's funny, I used to run draigowing and everyone would laugh, now I run draigowing and everyone cries.

Halberds, falchions and squad number is up to personnal preference. 1 hammer per squad is mandatory though - at least as soon as you have your overpriced squad getting tarpitted by those orks killa cans.
Personnaly, I use my purifiers by 6, 1 hammer, 2 psycannons and a psyback.
On a more CC oriented approach, falchions. Useless, but looking too cool to pass.

Well, I'd max out the psycannons. So small squads with 2 pscannons each mounted in Rhinos is a viable option.

Still, few things are quite as satisfying as watching thirty tricked out hormagaunts charge at 10 purifiers, and then proceed to all die before they can even attack.

10 purifiers, with 4 pyscannons and 6 halberds, would have 12 I6 attacks? So they'd have 6 hits, 4 dead hormagaunts.
How do all 30 die?

Cleansing flame. It goes first, all the time. Even if the attackers are howling banshees. With some good fortune that ability will reduce a hormagaunt brood to cinders, and as Purifiers are likely camping cover, everything but the hammer is going to be going before the gaunts.

Ah I forgot Cleansing flame...so halberds wouldn't be much use in that instance?

Everything else is just there to mop up the dazed and confused hormagaunts.

Even small Purifer units are terrifying with cleansing flame. Imagine you can arrange a charge of two or more units. Crowe has the same ability (psychic power).
