We're BACK. Like a character from an 80s action film. We realised that we've never actually done a battle report for the Arbites army since I started redoing them as Sisters, and Panic just finished his new Super Fast Necrons, so we thought we'd give the Space Police the chance to arrest some Space Robot Skeletons. As always, pics by Panic, waffle by me.

* Judge Jacobus
* Judge Kyrinov
* Suppression Team (Battle Conclave w/ 6 Crusaders, 3 DCAs) in a Repressor
* Suppression Team (Battle Conclave w/ 6 Crusaders, 4 DCAs) in a Repressor

* Response Team (5 Dominions w/ 2 Meltaguns) in a Castigator (Immolator w/ Multimelta, Searchlight)
* Interdiction Team (10 Seraphim w/ 2 Hand Flamers, Proctor w/ Power Maul)
* Execution Team (5 Retirbutors w/ 4 Heavy Bolters)
* Exorcist
* Exorcist

Deployment

We opted to play once of the Necron missions from the Battle Missions book - since the regular missions will all be out of date in a couple of weeks anyway! We picked Implacable Advance, which is fought lengthways down the table. Three objectives are placed along the centre line and each army starts at one end. Once an objective is captured by a scoring unit, it stays yours even if your unit moves away, until the enemy capture it with one of theirs. Arbites would be defending the Imperial city, meaning they deploy second and go second. We set up the board so that the Necrons had just advanced over the walls of the Imperial City, and the Arbites were defending the road.

Necrons deployed in waves as far forward as possible, with the big squads of warriors joined by an Overlord and a Lord, and the small squad joined by a Lord and holding back on the objective. Scarab swarms went around the flanks and the Doomsday Ark in cover. Both Flying Pastries and the Deathmarks were held in reserve.

Arbites deployed the large Patrol team on the road, next to their objective, in cover from the two Suppression teams and their Repressors. The third Repressor, holding the vital second troops unit, deployed in cover of a building, surrounded by the Interdiction team. The two Response teams and their Castigators deployed on the other flank, with the Exeuction team on the big building and the two Exorcists in cover. Everything was on the table, since Scouting was not allowed by the mission.

Turn One

In a twist, Arbites used their superior local knowledge to steal the initiative and get the first turn! One Exorcist targetted the Doomsday Ark but was out of range (damn lengthways games!), and the two Response Teams sped forward to melta the Scrabs. Along with fire from the Execution team's heavy bolters, they took out four bases, who then charged in in the Necron turn, munching a point of armour from the lead Castigator and causing the lead Response team to flee.

The rest of the Necron turn consisted of a general advance, with one big squad of Warriors firing at the lead Castigator and Immobilising it, and the Doomsday Ark targetting the furthest Exorcist and immobilising it.

Turn Two

In the Arbites turn, the second Castigator moves up, deploying it's Response team and, supported by the Execution team again, they reduce the Scarabs to one base. The two tanks then fire on the Doomsday ark, exploding it.

In the Necron turn, the Deathmarks and one of the Death Croissants arrive from reserve, but the Pastry Navigation System malfunctions and it mishaps. It gets placed by the enemy, facing the wrong way in difficult terrain. The Deathmarks choose Judge Jacobus' squad as their marked targets. The Scarabs on the other side of the board then assault the Interdiction team, killing half the squad.

The rest of the Necron army advances (implacably) and gauss fire immobilises and destroys the multimelta on the rear Castigator. The Doom Croissant performs a strange and contentious shot with it's Death Ray, exploding the lead Castigator. More on this later, as we'll put up a question in the YMDC forums - we don't know if the Death Ray has an arc of fire?? The weapon on the model doesn't spin around, but the Death Ray just tells you to 'pick a point'...

Turn Three

The Arbites decide it's finally time for the counter attack and advance all three Repressors down the road, popping smoke at the end of the turn. The last Response team advances on the rear of the Doom Croissant and fires meltaguns, immobilising it permanently into the wrong position.

Return fire from Gauss weapons sees one Repressor lose it's heavy flamer and another get stunned, and the Scarabs finish off the Interdiction team, consolidating towards the immobilised Exorcist in cover.

And, at the end of the turn, we can see that the general Necron advance has reached the centre objective, though the Overlord's squad has lost a few models to Exorcist fire.

Turn Four

Arbites then release their assault units - both Suppression teams deploy from the Repressors along with Jacobus, and assault into the closest large squad. A full two squads of power weapons takes out the entire Necron unit with only the Lord left standing, who is then overrun by the Cyberhounds (Death Cult Assassins).

The second Combat team then deploy from their Repressor and with supporting fire take out another bunch of the Overlord's squad. In the Necron turn, the Overlord's return fire is largely ineffectual, and the Scarabs switch direction and eat the closest Repressor, munching through so much tasty blue armour that it is wrecked.

The second Death Pastry also turned up in this turn, arriving as planned and using it's Death Ray to explode the stunned Repressor. Ooh la la.

Turn Five

In turn five, the two Suppression teams continued the assault, Judge Jacobus taking on the Overlord's squad and wiping them out while the other team went for the Deathmarks. The Scarabs then nipped around the back of the Suppression Team to eat a few more points from the armour of the last remaining Repressor

And at the end we can see that the second Death Croissant was taken out by Exorcist fire.

Turn Six

The Adeptus Arbites consolidate around the central objective, Jacobus joining the other Battle Conclave to wipe out the remaining Scarabs while the Combat team move onto the objective.

And in the Necron turn, the final squad of Warriors advance firing, attempting to flee the Combat team from it's objective, but fail to cause enough wounds.

And at the end of the game, the two Arbites Suppression Teams have cleared the centre of the table, giving Arbites a solid victory.

That was a fun battle to read! The solid green Necrons don't do much for me, but I absolutely love your Arbites, and the Sisters codex with those units sounds like a great fit for them. Great pictures too!

Thanks - to be fair, I've now played at a GT with this Sisters army, optimised it on Dakka, and had 10/11 games against all sorts of armies, whereas this was Panic's first ever game with the Necrons. I'm sure we'll see the Vast Green Horde kicking arse in the future...

Beautiful armies, battlefield, and photos. Really the gold standard of reports every time you guys throw dice. Cinematic and themed moments in the battle were perfectly captured by your pictures and descriptions.

Excellent batrep, the overhead views of the battlefiled are a great idea, does Panic pack a small, portable, alumnium ladder for your games or does your gaming club have an overhead gantry?
Those Necrons look quite tough, were they full of, pardon the pun, phlegm?

Comparing the Army list to the initial images, it looks as if the Necrons had a few extra Scarab bases on the table.

Otherwise, a solid batrep.

Great report; brilliant pictures, good action and really well detailed report. Aaaand lovely armies and terrain. Really great report; thanks.

2 comments I would make however, are:
- If the Sisters of Battle squads had their Codex and Arbites name together, that would be much easier to understand.
- More pastry guidance systems!

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

yeah,
Thanx for all the comments guys.
It was a good game although I basically just sent the main squads to their death to see how they do. And well they died.. well!

MagickalMemories wrote: Comparing the Army list to the initial images, it looks as if the Necrons had a few extra Scarab bases on the table...

Your correct the list is wrong I had two squads of ten scarabs

I'm actually quite excited to have this army on the building blocks while 6th edition launches.
Rapid firing on the move is soo necron also the death pastries might be able able to 'snap fire' after moving flat out! which wont effect the death ray and the teslas love 6's anyway
with the little ants on the ground needing 6's to hit. Death Pastry FTW!!!
Plus I shall get some cryptecs... once I work out the best way to convert mystic robots.

I'm surprised he didn't try to deal with your scarabs early on. With the # of tanks he had, those little buggers are terrors.

I don't look forward to Necrons in 6e, after what little I've heard. I try to avoid any "rule" rumor threads, since there's no much speculation and misinformation there. So, I haven't heard a ton.... but I've heard enough. LOL
I'm looking forward to seeing how my Dark Eldar fare, though.

Cool battle report. I love the Arbites army (great theme and appearance), but the Necrons look fairly unfinished. Is there detail there that the photos are missing, or are they a work in progress, or what?

That hardly seems like a power build to me If you look closely there's obviously some care and shading taking place, the scheme is just too monochromatic for me. G-G-G-Ghost Knights, Scoob! is more common though, thanks to Mordrak.

Your right the colour scheme is all about speed, Check the blog, I got the majority of the army in a a trade and with a starting point of 80 warriors there wasn't too many directions I could take the army.
