I thought it could be a fun and interesting way for people to fluff out their armies. Of course nobody likes it when a someone pulls out a tactical Marine with a bolter and says "this is a Devastator with a Plasma Cannon." but I wanted to know what you guys thought of using the Allies rule to expand on your army rather than a seemingly temporary alliance. Now I am also a supporter of WYSIWYG but a little imagination can go a long way when it comes to fleshing out an army.

For example:
If I was to use an Ork army with SM allies but instead of plopping some SMs down on a battlefield in amongst a group of angry Orks I were to use these guys as a counts as

The would for all intents and purposes play like a squad of SM but would give more personality and add to the visual aesthetics of the Orks.
I can easily imagine an Ork Warboss coming up with something along these lines.

"Dem Space Marines know 'ow to put up a good fight! So you gits are gonna take dat dere loot and you's is gonna get real tactical! OI! You listenin' to me!?!"

P.s. I posted something similar in Painting & Modeling but decided to move to 40KGD

I think orks can pull it off cause they can loot anything, so, as long as they have alot of space marine gear on them it would probably work.

Dont know how it would work out for other armies though, might get a tad confusing as to what is what.

Dark Eldar- 1500pts Completed
Grey Knights- 1500pts 1 Guy done
Chaos Daemons- Approx 5000pts
Slaanesh Daemons- 1500pts, in progress
Khorne Daemons- 1500pts, in progress
Death Korps of Krieg- Plans being formulated.
---------------------------------------------------
High Elves- Approx 2000pts
Vampire Counts- Raising the dead once more

With counts as, as long as you have a friendly and open minded local gaming group, the skys the limit.

Orks with SM BS?

The orks as a race have a vary powerful tool at their disposal, their imagination! ork vehicles and weapons work because orks believe they will work. ork vehicles by all standards should not work, But with the powers of the ork minds it does!

So if a ork thinks hard enough that he is a space marine, who's to say he is not lol?

They simply shoot twice as often.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I would gladly play against someone who fluffed out their army like this. A interesting conversion for a cool counts-as idea is much better then your "marine with bolter = marine with PC" proxy example. Have at it.
