Question about wording and ruling of the amount of psychic abilities the Librarian is allowed to have. The librarian is allowed to have the same amount of psychic abilities as per their mastery level if they switch codex powers for rulebook powers, but they can not get rid of Hammerhand.
Does hammer hand count as one of the psychic abilities they are allowed to have? For example, if a Mastery level 2 swaps powers for rulebook powers, he gets hammerhand and 1 or 2 powers from the rulebook? It would make sense if the librarian got 2 psychic powers, but when I tried to explain my reasoning to a friend during a game, he brought up last month's White Dwarf. In the army list showing allies between Guard and Knights, the allied Librarian was mastery level 3 and had 3 powers, hammer hand and 2 rulebook powers. Was this a mistake on their part? How many powers are our Librarians entitled to?

I just read in the rulebook that you can choose between disciplines, and I'd like to have an answer to your question, and if the codexes one count as a discipline, or it's another kind.

I read it as you can ditch the book powers and roll for a number of new powers equal to your psychic mastery level, netting you those new powers PLUS Hammerhand. So your level 2 librarian would end up with three total powers.

^this

You get a number of rulebook powers equal to your mastery level. HH is specifically stated to not be traded in.

See, that makes sense, but now I am wondering why the Librarian (mastery 3) in white dwarf 390 had only hammer hand, crush and telekinesis dome. Maybe they ran out of room or just didnt write something in.

WD battles are completely staged. I don't go by anything they say as being 100% fact or proper till I've read the rules myself.
